I think the one you're talking about is the 1.1L version. There's and 800cc version pa, that starts at 295k. Baka bababa pa daw yun.

It IS a copy of the Chevy Spark. That's why GM balked at it the moment it was unveiled...

It's made from China, and Chery Automobiles is one of the biggest car manufacturers and exporters in China. Chery is set to be sold in Europe and US markets. It is already sold in Asian markets. Target is 15% global market share in 10 years.

With their management and R&D, I think this is a very young promising company, and I can't wait for it to mature. The opportunity is huge, specially for the target segment.

Mr. Malcolm Bricklin of Visionary Vehicles already sealed the deal to import the cars and sell it to the US market. As for us, let's just say we are like him, local versions. And to share it with you, there's already a couple of threats to us as importers, especially when they learned that there are plans to bring in LPG cars and hybrids (in the next 5 years). :D

In the end I guess it's all about sustained vision and being part of the company as China slowly plants its foot in the global car scene.

    :)

    p.s.: I wanna have their M14 car.
  • May formalin kaya ito? :)

Try visiting motioncars.com for an article on Chery Automobiles' launching.

Some of their cars are admittedly blatant copies of existing models from other carmakers, but to be fair, they're not the only guilty party. One of their models to be released here is a carbon copy of the second-generation RAV4, and the QQ3 itself is a clone of the Daewoo Matiz (GM now owns Daewoo).

The RAV 4 clone eh hindi naman 100% clone dahil naiba rin nila yung ibang details kahit papaano...:rotflmao:

Nagkayos na ang GM at Chery sa issue ng QQ3-Eastar noon so wala nang problem dyan...

So far Chery lang ang Chinese car manufacturer na maganda ang lineup so far at soon they will introduce new original products(new engines, may CRDI engine sila)...

Watch out for the Chinese cars
    By Charles E. Buban
    Inquirer

WUHU, China-As Chery Automobile Co. enters the Philippine market, one nagging question comes to mind: Could China's largest independent automaker pose a serious challenge to the market dominance long-enjoyed by the Japanese?
More popular for introducing the cute QQ brand of cars that now dominate the subcompact, compact and hatchback segment in China, Chery said it is confident it will earn the Filipino consumer's confidence and trust.

"We believe we've got the goods to back it up," Chery International GM Lin Zhang told the Inquirer during an interview held in this city (some 400 km west of Shanghai) where the company is based.

In fact, Lin is so convinced of the positive response that Chery will be bringing in to the Philippines five of its popular models-the QQ3 hatchback, A5 full-size sedan, Cowin mid-size sedan, V5 multipurpose vehicle and the Tiggo compact sport utility vehicle.

    No worry

"The Philippine market should not worry-we're bringing Chinese cars that are beautiful, luxurious, built in state-of-the-art facilities, and we're going to sell them for far less than the competition," promised Tito Yupangco, dealership network manager of Iseway Motors Philippines, Chery's exclusive distributor in the Philippines.

The price advantage, Yupangco explained, is partly because of Chery's base of low-cost suppliers as well as China's cheap labor costs. "No wonder the vehicles that will be coming in have more safety features as well as more environmentally compliant than their competition," he said.

For years, Chery has been one of China's fast-growing industries that have been fighting consumer perception that regarded Chinese brands as cheap, unreliable and of poor quality.

"For years, Chery has been narrowing the car-making technology gap with the world's top automakers as well as acquiring assets from overseas to make us competitive not only here in China but eventually elsewhere in the world," Lin said.

To prove his point, Lin let a select group of media from the Philippines to tour Chery's sprawling (56 hectares) manufacturing plant that is capable of annually producing 700,000 vehicle units as well as 400,000 engines and 300,000 transmissions.

    Paying off

It seemed Chery's efforts is paying off: monthly sales statistics in China last March showed that the company was able to rank first with the joint ventures of Shanghai General Motors, Shanghai Volkswagen, and First Automotive Works Corp.-Volkswagen settling for second, third and fourth places, respectively.

Lin added that Chery is expected to produce 500,000 vehicles this year of which 100,000 will be exported (compared to the 50,000 exported from last year's 300,000 vehicles produced).

"For years, Volkswagen has been the biggest overseas automaker in China. However, we should also consider that this company has been a player in the Chinese market since 1985, while Chery only started making cars in 2003. Indeed, these past few years have been exciting for Chery and we are glad to have them in the Philippines," Yupangco informed.
