Honda CRV or Toyota Rav4?

The CRV 2.4 4x4 A/T cost around P1.475 and the RAV4 cost around P1.785.

I'm wondering why the RAV4 4x4 cost so much?

The RAV4 is expensive because it is imported from Japan and is subject to a higher tax rate than the CR-V which is manufactured in Thailand.

The RAV4 also has some rather not-so-useful accessories like heated seats. :D

For the price of a RAV4, I'd just get a Santa Fe CRDi AWD.

But it seems you've narrowed down your world to Honda and Toyota. Best of luck in whichever you choose. :)
  • Thanks. I guess, I have to go for the CRV then.
  • If you can get one.

I've been waiting for 3 months and it looks like I'll have to wait for 3 more. To top it off, they are not guaranteeing the price. Is this abuse of customers or what?
  • Yes, the sales executive told me that I have to wait for 4-6 months. I'm scheduling for a test drive this Saturday. I've also tried the Mitsubishi Outlander V6 and the price is Php 1.488. Kinda tight decision there. Specs for specs, I think the Outlander outshines the competition and more bang for the buck.

How's the quality build of Mitsubishi nowadays?
  • Same situation here. I even wrote Honda Philippines but never got a reply.

I was told the Mitsubishi Outlander is a completely built unit from Japan. So I guess you shouldn't worry on the quality. Although I still wouldn't get a Mitsu because of resale value concerns. :)
  • Yeah, I thought so, although really tempting specs. I wonder why Honda don't consider the V6 for the CRV.

I heard from an officemate that the reason why she chose the RAV4 over the CRV is because of fuel consumption and she based this on a friend who recently got the CRV2007 and complained about the fuel consumption and regretted even buying the CRV2007. I wonder whether that's true or not. At the back of my mind, she's obviously lying and trying to discredit the CRV. I've read many reviews, and the fuel consumption is almost the same as the RAV4 by decimal points only.
  • Honda's not one to immediately put a V6 on their cars, that's why. (same as toyota)

they would rather squeeze out as much power as they can off their 4 bangers than go ahead and upthe displacement and cylinder count

Been waiting for a CR-V since May. No luck. Ended up with a Fortuner instead. Not a bad choice after all.

However I must say, the CR-V is indeed a wonderful vehicle. Roomy inside with a lot of flexibility. As an audio afficionado, the iPod-ready jack is a BIG plus. Ditto the dashboard configuration.

All things being equal, I'd take a CR-V over a RAV-4 any day. Objectively though, my boss has the new Rav and she has no complaints. I've heard from new CR-V owners that the 2.0 guzzles gas like a mo-fo. One can only speculate how the 2.4 variant might consume...
  • Regarding the fuel consumption -

    CR-V 2007 (2.4 AWD): City 10.7L/100KM, Hwy: 7.8L/100KM

    RAV4 2007 (2.4 AWD): City 10.1L/100KM, Hwy: 7.8L/100KM

Hmmm...not much of a difference though, give or take 0.2-0.3 on other reviews. But then again, it depends on the driver. If you drive aggressively, then you'll consume more, but if you drive more relaxed, you'll save more. But, I just hope they offer manual for the 2.4 as I can easily adjust for fuel economy.
  • 7.8L for a 2.4 isn't that bad...

My 2.0 Accord and CRV just went about 6...and they're both manual...

Like I always say, I don't mind the gas as long as the ride and drive is comfortable. :)

    Chevrolet Suburban anytime. :)

Do note that brights' fuel consumption figures are computed the other way round. It's not the usual "xx km/L" but the "xx L/100km" more commonly used by Europeans.

When you use the "xx L/100km" figure, a HIGHER number means your vehicle's consuming MORE fuel to go a fixed standard distance (in this case, 100 km). From the example above, the CR-V is actually marginally thirstier.

    FYI and caveat emptor.
  • That translates to 9.35 Km/L,12.82 Km/L (Cty, Hwy) for the CRV and 9.9Km/L,12.82 Km/L for the RAV4.

Get whatever you want. Price aside, There is no significant differnce in terms of performance for both model. Can never go wrong with 'em.
Sucks that you have to wait that long to have the CRV though, if you are leaning towards that. Honda Phils FTL!!!!
  • Looks to me that they are pre-selling it, like a condominium. lol

I guess the demand is high for the Thai market as well as the Philippines. I suspect they also cater to other SE Asian countries as well. Selling like hotcakes.

Anyway, I can't wait for 6months, thats half a year, and it's ridiculous. I'll just stick to my current CR-V and just wait for next year when demands settles, hopefully. While waiting, I can invest the money for the meantime.
  • go for the new CRV, although Rav4 is still hot....
  • OK, I know CRV and Focus are different categories altogether but with this long wait for the CRV, I'm really tempted to go for the Focus.

Any opinions? Kumusta ba resale ng Focus?

rav 4 1.7m is the 4X4 one, 4X2 rav for cost 1.4 also, better go with rav 4, since they are both 2.4 L engine, toyotas are proven to be full efficient.. also the looks its more wider. the crv looks like Quasimodo heheh too much curve on the back..

like what i told you Toyota rav4 is much efficient in fuel consumption, your female office mate is telling thetruth, why will she lie? good choice for you officemate. although even it its toyota it has 2.4L engine it gulps gas man, better buy a sedan which has 1.6 - 1.8 engine displacement.:)
