No Senator Deserves your vote

Greater worry is conduct of May elections

FORMER Sen. Francisco Tatad, the foe of political dynasties, now fires a fatwa against all the senatorial candidates: "None of them deserve our vote."

He recalls: "In 2006, the administration tried to abolish the Senate. Had it succeeded, Senators Ed Angara, Joker Arroyo, and Ralph Recto, along with all other incumbent and future senators, would have been ‘abolished.’ Administration defenders Mike Defensor, Butch Pichay, Chavit Singson, and Miguel Zubiri would have cheered. They might even have claimed credit for it.

"Now they are all senatorial candidates on the same Team Unity ticket. They seem to believe there’s nothing wrong with it, and that we, the people, have no choice but to put up with it."

The people must also put up with a party system that has no rules.

He wants to know why the Nationalist People’s Coalition should divide its candidates, Tessie Oreta and Tito Sotto for the Team Unity and Loren Legarda, Francis Escudero, John Osmeña, and Nikki Coseteng for the Genuine Opposition.

The once proud Nacionalista Party has Ralph Recto with the administration and its president, Manny Villar and Allan Peter Cayetano with the opposition – although Villar’s heart may not be 100 percent opposition.

The Liberal Party has Mike Defensor with the TU and Noynoy Aquino with GO.

Why has no one questioned this outrageous arrangement? Kit asks.

He calls on voters to go to the polls, not to fill up the ballot, but to mark it with an x. Enough x’s will bring on a failure of election.

Few will accept Kit’s nihilism. Few believe that all the candidates should be rejected.

Most of us are more concerned with the conduct of the election. Can the Comelec do the right thing at last, give us an honest election?

This means counting the votes for the deserving and not padding the votes of the undeserving.

I would've believed Kit Tatad, but his choices for allies are so bad that I wouldn't really trust anything that he said.
