  • BEST INDIE/DIGITAL FILM CATEGORY, TSINUGI NG GOLDEN AWARDS!

SA emergency meeting na pinamunuan ng Golden Screen Awards Chairman na si Lito Manago, napagkasunudan ng members ng voting and screening committee for this year’s Golden Screen Awards, ang resolution regarding the Best Independent/Digital Film Category which was initially formed last year due to the emergence of the digital revolution in local films.

In an earlier press release issued by the Golden Screen Awards for its official list of nominees, the films "Kaleldo" (produced by Centerstage Productions, at pinagbidahan nina Juliana Palermo, Angel Aquino at Cherry Pie Picache) and "Ligalig" (CM Films, bida si Cesar Montano) were listed as contenders in the Best Picture-Drama category.

Ang mga digital films na tulad ng "Batad: Sa Paang Palay" (Philippine Company of Performing Arts), "Compound" (Hubo Productions, Inc.), "Donsol" (Bicycle Pictures), "Inang Yaya" (Unitel Pictures), "Kubrador" (MLR Films) and "Manoro (Centerstage Productions) were all listed separately as official nominees in the Best Motion Picture-Independent/Digital.

Since the digital technology involved in the production of "Ligalig" may raise issues and questions on how it was categorized, the Golden Screen jurors unanimously decided to put every film nominated on equal footing.

"Kaleldo" and "Ligalig" will be joining the rest of the nominated films mentioned as they incidentally fall on one particular genre, which is drama. The Best Motion Picture-Independent/Digital category, therefore, was abolished effective February 21, 2007, in a resolution formed by the Golden Screen Awards 2007 Screening Committee.

Para sa taong ito ng Golden Screen Awards, there will be a total of 8 films na maglalaban-laban para sa Best Motion Picture- Drama category, dahil kasali na nga sa kategoryang ito ang "Ligalig" at "Kaleldo".

The decision on the abolition of the Best Motion Picture- Independent/Digital rose from the fact that almost every local movie being produced now is already using digital technology. The technology is constantly evolving, hence, separating the mainstream from the indies, should no longer be a source of confusion or issues in scrutinizing and analyzing the artistic merits of films.

The Golden Screen Awards’ uniqueness among existing local award-giving bodies is the fact that it was obviously patterned from the Golden Globes of Hollywood. Its distinction lies on the separate categories for Best Motion Picture- Drama and Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical.

The lead performances also follow the same pattern, as there is a Best Performance by an Actress/Actor in a Leading Role - Drama and separately, a Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role- Comedy or Musical.

The supporting acting category is a mixture of drama, musical or comedy, and it is more generalized as compared to the lead acting performance categories in the Golden Screen.

On the other hand, the nominees for this year’s Best Motion Picture- Musical or Comedy remain the same, and final, as what has been announced: "I Wanna be Happy" (Seiko Films); "Don’t Give Up On Us" (Star Cinema Productions); "Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo" (Star Cinema Productions); "Manay Po" (Regal Entertainment)" and "Zsa Zsa Zaturnnah: Ze Moveeh" (Regal Entertainment).

Generalizing films limited to the drama and musical/comedy genre will, therefore, be the lone rule to be followed by qualified jurors of the Golden Screen Awards from now on. The abolition of the Best Motion Picture- Independent/Digital allows the judging of films to be more definite and precise.

Ang Golden Screen Awards ay gaganapin sa March 17, 2007 at the AFP Theater in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

    Last year's Enpress Awards,

Inay bagged the Best Female Lead Performer in a comedy movie while Judy ann for drama.

The nominations are reversed now. Of course, i'm rooting for Ms. Maricel Soriano to win as female lead performer in a drama movie. Aside from Inay,

Tala Santos and Erika Oreta should clinched the awards for a breakthrough performance. Galing talaga nila!

Correction bro, it was 2 years ago when Inay and Juday won.

Last year it was Ana Capri (drama - not sure of what movie) and Zsa Zsa Padilla (comedy for Ako Legal Wife).

  • I think John Lloyd Cruz deserves to win Best Actor for his performance in CLOSE TO YOU. His performance was superb, especially given the fact that he is primarily a drama actor. If he wins at the Golden Screen Awards, it will be hist first Best Actor trophy. Ironic, yes. Deserving, definitely!
