Importing a Car to the Philippines

What's the process for importing a car to the Philippines?

My husband wants to send his 1996 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Rs T-top to the Philippines from the US. It's an old car with saleable value of probably around $2500-$3500 but he's very attached to it, therefore his father is holding it for safekeeping until he can have it sent to Manila.

    Anyone have an idea???
  • how about try to inquire from the philippines consulate office for procedure or process in the importation of personal owned vehicle.

ang pagkakaalam ko me restriction o ban ung importation ng car (POV) with engine displacement over 2800 cc or cubic weight exceeding 1,500 kilograms (3307 lbs.) otherwise you will need a special permit for importing it.

bukod dyan, cost of import duties and taxes can equate to about 250% of estimated value of the car. plus shipment/insurance cost?

usually 100$ or 200% from the actual price of the car plus tax. Di ko alam kung tama pa to...

pero kung me kilala kang diplomat sa Phil. Embassy o sa Phil. Consulate na mag re-retire eh pwedeng iuwi na yan ng libre :D (di ako nagbibiro)
  • imo, its usually not worth it especially kung common car lang pero paminsan may attachment na tlga yun person sa car na yun. it'll all depend on how much he/she loves that car.

dapat meron website na para dito, like FAQ about shipping to PI. ang daming gusto mag uwi ng kotse sa pinay hangan ngayon clueless pa rin mga tao.
If you have the money I am 100% sure pasok. lagayan lang yan pare.
  • The 100% tax rule only applies to new cars. Older cars will be charged with anything from 10-90% (based on value when it was new) depending on the age of the vehicle.

That 11 year old Camaro will be charged 10% as far as I know. There is also a gas guzzler tax on cars with engines larger than 1.6L. And of course, there is also the cost of actually shipping the car. In other words, it's just way too much hassle.

My advice. Sell the car, save the money that you would've otherwise used in taxes and shipping and buy locally instead. Even if you managed to get it in the country, good luck trying to find someone who knows how to fix a Camaro.
  • adice that my economics professor said that u shouldnt import cars here coz the customs will just ask u for under the table money that costs more than what u even paid for the car. coz he had friends that sent MB's from germany and its been 10 years and they still didnt get the car out of phil customs. what wud u expect from the phil gov....? so don't even bother trying to bring it here unless u know someone in the customs.
  • why bother. aside from the shipping and handling plus Phil. tax, meron pa dyang under the table tax. Whether you have connection or not, maglalagay ka pa rin unless Tita mo si Ate Glo.
    not worth the hussle

  • Ice Burn nabasa ko dati sa threads mo na one of your folks ay taga ADB? Bat di mo palabasin na binili ng dad mo para tax free. hehee :D afaik, ADB folks (provided that they have the level and I'm sure your dad has that level) can buy cars abroad tax free.

^^Lol, only if you're based abroad does the tax free thing work but my dad was based in the Philippines. Besides my dad recently retired from ADB so fat chance. :)
  • I used A1 Auto Transport to move my toyota from San Francisco to Manila. Freaking simple, lol! I thought it'd be a royal pain in the *** but all I need to do was drop off the keys and the rest was taken care off. :-)
  • I request you to contact the top Auto logistics company where you can get the procedure and quote for overseas shipping.

I'd love to ride a Honda Gold Wing. It's designed to cross a continent in comfort. If I were in the US, it'll cost me 1.3 million. If i import it here, it'll cost 4.0 million.

  • Good day! This is Christelle, a licensed customs broker in the Philippines. If you need assistance for your import shipments into the Philippines, you can email me at [email protected]
  • Hello Christelle, this is John, I emailed you last night and I am hoping to get an answer back soon regarding these Import Fees and Customs Fees. My filipino wife is a dual citizen and we are coming to the Philippines towards the end of this year as PERMANENT RESIDENTS and we were told by someone that Philippines government will give us a Tax Free privilege to bring most of our household items and Also a DISCOUNTED fees to bring ONE vehicle from US. I am searching everywhere on the internet to get an idea HOW MUCH fees I'd be committed to pay through what they call the BALIKBAYAN benefits. Please respond with any answers or advices you might have for me.
  • It's really easy to import a car from the other country. I used to import a car from Japan, so I used https://clearitusa.com/ to do all this process. It's quite quick and easy to do, plus affordable prices.
  • Thanks for the information.
