SURVIVOR: FIJI (Now on Crime/Suspense!) No Spoilers Thread

This February 2007, a new batch of castaways will begin the adventure of a lifetime! For SURVIVOR’s 14th incarnation, the unscripted drama will explore once more the seas of the South Pacific, a nation with a rich history and stunning scenery, the islands of FIJI.

Mark Burnett, producer of Survivor (along with The Apprentice, Rock Star, and the upcoming pirate expedition reality series, Pirates) has already confirmed in the new TV Guide that Fiji is the 14th season’s locale. Survivor: Fiji is about to wrap up filming by next week, right before the finale of Survivor: Cook Islands.

From TV Guide:

And the future? Survivor: Fiji--the 14th edition of the show, which takes place in that Pacific Island nation--will likely debut in February. "It has an extremely unique opening episode," Burnett says. "There will be an Exile Island, but it's quite different, and the hidden immunity idol portion of the game has an interesting twist." And look for yet another way to divide the tribes--and keep Survivor fresh.

Fiji, officially the Republic of the Fiji Islands, is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean east of Vanuatu, west of Tonga and south of Tuvalu. The country occupies an archipelago of about 322 islands, of which 106 are permanently inhabited, and 522 islets. The two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87% of the population. The name Fiji is the old Tongan word for the islands, which in turn is derived from the Fijian name Viti.

Survivor TV Series to Pour Millions into Local Economy
16 Oct 2006 22:05:29

The economy in the North is expected to be given a financial boost with the start of a major television production in the coming week.

The Fiji episode of the Survivor series is to be shot on location in the Macuata province in Vanua Levu.

And in the North today to officially launch the six week production, was Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase.

[Prime Minister Qarase]
"What is taking place at Vunivutu is one frame in a larger picture".

Vunivutu village, about an hour's drive out of Labasa town, is playing host to the Fiji episode of the Survivor TV series.

It's brought good news for the landowners, villagers and business people, with its multiplying dollar effect on the northern economy.

And today the Prime Minister's arrival in the north and the traditional ceremonies which followed signified the Government's endorsement and appreciation of a production that will feature Fiji on TV screens around the world.

[Prime Minister Qarase]
"The massive Survivor Base Camp nearby reflects the magnitude of a production that will inject at least six million dollars directly into the community. This will come through employment, lease money and the purchase of services and goods, including local produce. When the Fiji Survivor program goes to air our country will attract invaluable international publicity particularly for tourism".

The Survivor production boasts a crew of some 250 people, whose presence has changed the landscape at Vunivutu - with the construction of over a hundred timber and canvas kit homes.

A landing on the Wainkoro River, built for the series, will remain at the end of the 6-week production.

"We are very excited about being here in the North of Fiji. And we're excited about the opportunity to showcase the beauty of this land and these islands and lagoons to the rest of the world, many of whom don't know anything about this area."

The Survivor shoot is one of several overseas productions this year.

Filming is also underway at Sigatoka and the Mamanucas.
