  • You must be referring to the carbon fiber hood..mas magaan carbon fiber na hood..so mas mabilis yung auto..
  • Ditto, it's either carbon fiber or fiber glass.

The most common case i see though is some just paint their hoods black for the "racer-racer" effect. :P
  • Yep... They're supposed to be "Carbon Fiber" color. Carbon Fiber is the same material that is used for race cars. (light material, stronger than aluminium)

so the poor ricers naman, they went ahead and paint their hood black, because that's what they think it's what it is.

Carbon Fiber is expensive kasi eh. Well I for one can't wait for the day when carbon fiber is what we get even on our regular Kias. :)
  • It's a matter of personal preference really. I know someone who painted his hood flat black to reduce the glare he gets on sunny days.

Kung saan ka masaya, suportahan ta ka...
  • So Subway you gonna paint your hood black?

shun_sakurai: i haven't heard of that "reason" yet. i may suggest that sometime. ;)

carbon fiber isnt even that black... katawa pag painted black yung hood tapos painted neon green yun caliper tapos yun rims then kunwari royal black (yung pininturahan lang yng outside part ng rim)
  • maganda yung carbon fiber hood na napinturahan yung sides ng graphite gray so kita lang yung carbon fiber sa gitna. 'la lang. meron syang originality.
  • i'm not for replacing the hood with carbon fiber myself...

my opinion is.. what is the point, really.? you're gonna be 0.005s faster... yippee!!

ay.. ako din pala naki-join in sa carbon fiber carbon fiber na yan... laking pagsisisi. i spent close to $900 on a STI JDM carbon fiber spoiler na hindi ko naman knabit... lol. i shouldve spent that on a chip, high flow cat plus downpipe. bumilis pa kotse ko.

It's the same logic that means most new BMWs' body panels (e.g. the front fenders on the 5-series) are made of plastic instead of steel. It's to improve weight distribution.

    Kung saan ka masaya...

It adds inches to penis size. The painted black hood is fake viagra. ;)

I'm plenty happy with the aluminum hood i have stock on my car. ;)

i guess it's to reduce glare coming from light sources, which can be a distraction while driving. interestingly enough some fighter planes got black noses too.

  • I love it when people have a carbon fiber hood to "save weight" in the front yet have a ton worth of speakers in the back.
  • ^actually, they have a point. offseting the weight! hehe.
  • Black hoods (be it steel, CF, fiberglass, or even cardboard) are also used for glare reduction especially in vehicles whose hoods are visible from the driver's seat.
  • i think from carbon fiber, and the ones that cant afford the real cf they paint it black to look like it.
