REVO problem

hi guys need your help badly.

i have not used our toyota revo (GSX 2.0 AT) for more than two weeks, and then when i turned it on yesterday it was pretty bad. the engine was making noise, and the noise increased when i turned on the aircon. the car was also shaking more than it used to, plus i can smell gasoline when i'm outside the car, the smell is like when your on a gasoline station but on a lighter side.

i took the revo for a short trip around our vllage hoping that the symptoms would disapear, but to no avail. although the engine was making less noise, it wasn't running as it used to and the unit still shakes a lot especially if the engine is running slow. and i can stil smell gasoline in the garage, but there's no leak as far as i can see.

what could be the problem? can you recommend a good shop in the makati area? going to toyota for repairs might be costly. hoping for your reply soon. thanks..

I think medyo na stock lang yan pero siguro pag talagang nag init ang engine magtitino rin yan, nausok ba?

na stuck? minsan a car of ours will remain unused for longer than that. and the worse that has happened to us was a drained battery (dahil sa car alarm)

You could always try to have it diagnosed at Toyota (it's usually free). If the price they quote is unreasonable then have someone else do it or just ask the Toyota guy if they have technicians that do home service without the dealership's knowledge. Madami naman suma-sideline sa casa.

Before running the engine warm it up for 5 minutes to let the oil circulate.
Shaking may be due to a clogged fuel filter, faulty high tension wire etc. engine noise due to low oil level. shell maya in valero theyre honest.

Soy rico, i actually had the same problem with my revo, granted that i havnt used it longer than you did and i encountered the same symptons (e.g. car shaking, engine noise, gasoline smell outside the car), but when i have a mechanic checked on it, apparently the mechanic states that there is no problem. But just to be sure though i agree with what the other people here have stated, ill probably bring it in to toyota for a diagnosis first and if they charge unreasonably ill then reconsider.

thanks very much for the reply. i checked the hood and i saw that some wires were damaged. From its look, it may be due to rats. we plan to bring it to toyota this saturday and we hope that its the only problem.

Could be the rats ate your HT-wires (high tension wires) and some vacuum hoses... you'll have to check them out one by one as there may be a vacuum and/or electrical leak somewhere.

Could also be something as simple as a tune-up/timing job perhaps... or even a bad load of fuel; check your spark plug condition and stuff like the filters (fuel,air,etc) and check all your fluids (oil, ATF, etc). When was the last time the car was serviced? How often is the vehicle used?

Start with the basics first before moving on to the other possibilities.

maybe rats/mice chewed through some wires for the engine sensors or the connectors got corroded and are lose, so the computer doesn't detect them, then it goes to safe mode thinking that there's something wrong with the engine. we experienced that problem on our gasoline kia sportage. try unpluging the connectors on the engine then reconnect them. while you're at it spray the connectors with contact cleaner fluid or WD40 then plug them back in.

yes... pumunta ako sa toyota para mag tanong, buti na lang at merong revo dun. Tinuro ko yung nasira ng daga, at sabi ng taga toyota HT-wires (high tension wires) nga yun. isang wire lang naman ang nasira pero it costs 3896 pesos ang cost. di kasi sila nag nag benta ng isang wire lang.

unfortunately di kasi masyadong nagagamit yung kotse... haay... mga once a week lang... nanghihinayang nga ako ...

thanks dude sa advice..pero honestly di ko talaga alam mga parts na tinutukoy mo.. hehe i'll just let the experts do their job...haaay...

Please help, I was driving along Quezon Ave. and my engine started to To-pe ( sound like running on wrong gear ) and then stop , I was trying to re-start it and it did but a few meters it stops again. My mechanic said that I need to change the ignition coil and distributor will cost me 40k

Does the engine start up and run when after allowing it to cool down? If yes, it could be the ignition coil and distributor as your mechanic says but 40K is highway robbery IMO.

gusto kolang po malaman kung nasisira ba ang computer box ng 7k revo Toyota kc sabi ng mechanico ko sira daw ang computer box.
ganito po ang kwento nag pa tented lang ako sa harap ng dashboard noong matapos pina start ko kc pauwi na kami ng commander ko, nong nag start medyo nagtaka ako kc nag wild ang engine ko gayung wala **** problima noong nag tent ako atsaka umosok ng item at may naamoy akung gasoline bukod doon tumataas agad ang temperature pag start mo. wala **** akung nararamdaman sa engine ko bago ako nagpa tented.
