Established Scientific Laws about Music, are there?

Sorry for being lazy, BUT do people here already know them?

can you post them here? i already google but can't seem to see any...

thanks. :)

  • what do you mean? get those clasical music nila mozart, bethhoven, and others .. during the renaissance the church had produced the best music in its time...

music is good for your brain, best music have no melody, so it become yours and your expercience/interpretation only, they are made to stimulate special parts of your brain for different purpose- soothing, memorizations, critical thinking, arousals.. etc...etc..

yes ma'am, im looking for Scientific proof of these ^ and also asking if these are established via laws and stuff etc.

scientific law, such as law of gravity, law of biogenesis, etc?? he he heh..

the only law that I know is copyrights, and its up to 75 yrs only after its been released loses its copyright.. after that, you can produce, change, release it again without paying anyone!!

^^ Well in our DSP, we learned that each musical note can be represented
by a certain frequency and I bet you also know this.

^^ It was also discovered in ancient times, that for the music to be
pleasing or harmonious, it follow a certain rule, and that is the rule of
harmonics. But, I bet you already know this also.

    I give up.
  • don't give up.. thanks!!

There's Music Theory, but I don't know any "Music Law".

Making it a law would probably force people to conform to it, methinks, thus they never made any.

This thread reminds of one of our exams... Karplus-strong algorithm...

You can produce a nice music using matlab... try it... I will try
to find my program... it is quite nice.
  • cut the string in half without adjusting tension and you get the same tone an octave higher.

    ^^ f=v/2L... if L1 = L0/2 then f1 = 2f0.

    octave just means 2x.
  • not necessarily, in music, octave means the interval (currently 8 notes) between between two notes, with one being either double or half the frequency of the other.

ooops... what I meant is octave means 2x in the realm of electronics
    and communications...
  • but we are talking about music in this thread, aren't we?

but we are talking about music in this thread, aren't we?

Yes, we are.... there's no conflict with the usage of "octave" in music,
    electronics and communications engineering... agree?

    Middle C is ~261.6Hz
    higher C is ~523.2Hz
    lower C is ~130.8Hz

If you say octave higher, it means twice the frequency... or in music, you just
    have to take 8steps higher.

If you say octave lower, it means half the frequency... or in music, you just
    have to take 8steps lower.

    Where is the contradiction?
  • did i say there was a contradiction? no, i believe i did not. your last post is off-topic, redundant at best.

    Ok... sabi mo eh.
  • I think what we perceive as music, what we perceive as pleasant sound, is just the sound that we are used to hearing. In one sense, it is a sort of a false beauty borne only of familiarity.
I remember music teachers always talk about what sounds natural. Come back to the development of music and see. The scales, the tone and harmony how it all began. I also notice this small details about music. Among other things.
how you can develop this taste for this music just by listening to it many times.
How world music sounds so unnatural and just noise the first time you hear it.
How music is one of the things that change with the times like fashion and trends.
The world of music I think is one of the most artificial things in the world. That when you talk of scientific laws for music it just wouldn't make sense.
