Any parents here who have or had their sons diagnosed and treated? Paki-share naman po mga naging experiences niyo. My son is 1 year,9months and he has had this since birth... In his 2nd month I was told he may get well by 18 months kasi common daw ganitong cases na nawawala rin without going through surgery, pero ung sa baby ko andun pa rin... sabi ng pedia niya tingnan daw niya ulit before my baby turns two, tapos saka niya bibigay recommendation niya... gusto ko lang malaman kung meron ba sa inyo na pinag-undergo ng surgery ung anak nila? Please i need some information from you who have actually been through this... thanks.

hi, pareho tayo ng case, ( sa anak natin) since birth din sya. nang mag two yo siya, inoperahan sya. okay na ngayon, 8 yo na siya. medyo natakot lang ako nung time nang operation nya, kasi nga pinatulog siya, at ang liit pa niya nun. after operation, kailangang gisingin agad siya..para syang walang naramdaman, kasi after an hour nalalaro na namin siya ( pinatatawa) tapos, mga ilang oras pa, nakatayo na at nakalakad na din siya agad. gumastos ako nung time na yun ng almost 30,000 pesos.private doctor, private room at 2 days lang umuwi na kami sa bahay.
( ang alam ko, pag di yan gumaling after nya mag 2 yo, kailangan mo talagang mapa opera. delikado yan pag di naibalik paitaas ( yung bituka). sana gumaling yung sa anak mo.. huwag mo masyadong paiiyakin at pag dumudumi sya sana medyo malambot yung dumi nya para maiwasang bumaba.)0 -
I'm thankful that someone started this thread. At least I can vent out with parents, who undergo the same or similar ordeal.
My daughter is just 1 1/2 month old. She is our first baby and anyone can imagine the pain my husband and I are going through every time we see our little angel's belly button protruding.
She is diagnosed to have UMBILICAL HERNIA. A congenital weakness (meaning present since birth) exists in the naval area in the region where vessels of the fetal and infant umbilical cord exited through the muscle of the abdominal wall.
An umbilical hernia is a condition in which a defect or hole exists in the abdominal wall at the level of the umbilicus (belly button). Skin overlies the defect and bulges especially during straining. During fetal development, the region of the umbilicus is very important. It is the point where the structures that make up the umbilical cord pass. This defect usually closes shortly after birth through natural processes. Occasionally the process of closure does not finish, and there is a persistent defect in the abdominal wall, or an umbilical hernia. Even if an umbilical hernia is present in infancy, most (90%) will close within the first year or two of life A few will persist into early childhood, prompting surgical referral.
This we noticed on her 3rd week. Everything looked normal before that. Since then, we have gone to numerous pediatricians in various hospitals for medical advice. But all say that there is nothing to worry about. This happens to 10 -20% of infants. The opening will close by itself in a few months time. Sometimes, itll take 2-3 years. Till then, no medication or surgery is required.
Pero how can we tell ourselves that this is just normal? When she cries or strains, it bulges like a balloon. At one time my hubby and I cried looking at her while she sleeps. We ask ourselves what have we done or what have we not done. I particularly blame myself since this was told to have occurred while she was still inside my womb. I feel guilty. Yet I cant possibly know what could have I done to cause this. Because as the doctors and my own research pointed out, there is no exact cause.
There are times when I just feel like shutting our doors from neighbors and friends. They add more to the confusion and pain with their uninformed and unsolicited ideas about my babys condition. Some would insist that it was due to not using binders or bigkis religiously. Others would say nalamigan, nabasa when I gave her a bath while the stump was still there. Yung iba naman would speculate that I got sick or ate something na bawal while I was pregnant.
But as the doctors explained to me, none of these were or are true. They even somewhat blame the use of bigkis because it strains the abdominal muscles, which prevents the layers of tissue to close properly. Taping or "strapping" an umbilical hernia will not cause it to go away.
With what were told by the doctors, there is nothing we can do for now but to wait and observe. This is just excruciating and agonizing for a mother. All I can do is pray and trust that God is with us through this.0 -
lileth, thanks po sa info... Okay sana kayo ng baby mo ngayon. I'm happy that most of the feedback i get suggest that the treatment procedure is relatively simple and straightforward. sabi nga dun sa thread ko sa Whats Up Doc, it's a minor operation with fairly high success rate. One question that bothers me though, is that, would the possibility of impotence be eliminated granted na pinaopera early enough?
Noglues</>, I wish to extend my sympathy to you and your husband. I'm sure you two are very responsible parents and this has nothing to do with anything youve done or havent done. Di ko alam ang maipapayo sayo, halos pareho tayo ng case (hernia is hernia), liban sa girl ang baby mo at napakabata pa niya. Kahit yung baby ko, between his first and second month, ganun din sabi ng mga pedia, obserbahan muna cuz it was too soon to give definitive answers. Thanks for sharing. I will include you and your little angel in my prayers.
To the others, you know you can help us with your info... Will appreciate more replies... Thanks0
