Low scoring PBA games: Reasons

What is happening with the scoring of teams in the PBA lately?

In the ongoing PBA Fiesta Conference 2005-2006 where imports are present, no team yet have reached the 100 point plateau or at least 90 points.
In the opening game of Red Bull and Purefoods it was 84-77.
In the october 5 games: Ginebra 89, Coca Cola 81 and Alaska 80, SLR 75.

What do you think are the reasons behind the decreased offensive output in the PBA both in this conference and the past few years?
a) Good defense- Teams put more emphasis on the defensive end. Putting into mind the basketball saying "Defense wins championships".
b) Lack of offensive prowess of teams- This involves the lack of good offensive patterns and the lackluster shooting of the players themselves.
c) Other reasons- I have no other idea except the 1st 2 options.

Tingin ko, letters a and b are the 2 main reasons. Although I would like to put more consideration on the 2nd option. No offense meant pero talagang kulang na sa fluidity ang offensive patterns ng most PBA teams ngayon, and lackluster shooting of the players doesn't help either.

Yes offense wins ballgames and chicks, defense wins championships. Not to take anything away from the defensive stalwarts of the PBA pero talagang may problema ang opensa ng most PBA teams both in the shooting and their offensive plays...

Look at the NBA, there's abundance of good defensive teams, philosophies, plays and players yet it's very rare to see them score below 90 points. :)
Yes, I know na di tamang icompare squarely ang Nba at Pba but the thing is nakakabahala ang nangyayari sa opensa ng PBA teams, in my viewpoint ah. Siyempre, case to case basis pa rin yan eh.

Kayo what can you say?

  • Mga tamad lang talaga players. :D

Ang dapat gawin sa PBA, salary is based on the performance. Para medyo ganahan naman mga players.

And lastly, mga bob0 lang talaga karamihan maglaro. Overrated lang, kaya akala magaling. :naughty:

    Katulad ni .....

    reasons?! 2 lang...

    1. zone defense
    2. good outside shooter

  • Low scoring games.

Reason: The ball dont go thru the hoop, it just bounce away.

Solution: Try harder to get the ball thru the hoop and the score will increase.

    is this the real fortune?

    hahaha...
  • mas lalong tinatamad ang mga players ngayon...

dati, tinatamad sa depensa, kaya tumaas ang scoring from the low-scoring days of the late '90s. ngayon, mukhang tinatamad na rin sa offense...tama nga, kulang sa fluidity...sometimes they look like headless chickens running around the court...

expect quinito henson to wax ecstatic on the low-scoring games...hyping it up as high-quality and an improvement on defense, when the truth is, the lack of offensive fluidity is to blame...
  • ^back in the dark ages of the pba, there was little defense...pero at least may intensity sa laro nila...they played the game for the love of the game, and not for the love of money...

the games are starting to get sooooo boring!
  • if this trend continues...lazy offense, lazy defense...the pba should redesign their logo. instead of using johnny abarrientos' likeness, how about marlou aquino instead? :glee:
  • ^ nice idea!

Marlou's the exact epitome of a PBA player.

ako ...medyo ok na ang yung games ngayon compared last year...mas exciting sya ah
  • I think we should try the European approach which is Very Good Basic to our game rather than the American approach which is a Very Athletic game.

coz we can never be Very athletic since we are well... small people. lolz! but we can give the Very Good Basic a try which include better dribbling/shooting/passing which quite frankly we lack in our big men and fading away from our small men.

Masmadami pa assist yun mga import minsan kesa sa mga guards narin... thats NOT good!!
  • because of the "low post" system that many pba teams are using....
  • mas lalong tinatamad ang mga players ngayon...

u can say that to guys like aquino, andy seigle, espino, duremdes and the like....but u can't say that to all PBA players....

tamad ba sina tony dela cruz, nick belasco, james yap, jayjay helterbrand, etc?

well, not all pba players, but most...i was speaking in general terms. *peace*
  • Hindi naman lahat tamad e, napapansin lang talaga kasi tingin din ng marami e parang ang boring ng dating ng mga laro pero medyo ok naman so far although nandun pa rin yung same old Marlou Aquino.

di naman siguro MOST of the players...SOME lang...
