cheapest diesel car

hey! we all know we can save more when we drive diesel powered cars by having to consume less and is cheaper than unleaded gas.

now, what is the cheapest diesel engined car in the philippines today?

i miss those diesel nissan sentra cars in the 90s that goes 23km per liter of diesel...

meron pa bang sedan na diesel ang gamit dito sa Philippines na bago?

ang ganda siguro yung vios/city/swift/picanto/sirion/verita/jazz na diesel ang gamit!

Hyundai Matrix. :) 1.5L CRDi... we wanted to get one before for my sister but they had no a/t variant.

Yup, Matrix is by far the cheapest. Gustong-gusto ng bestfriend ko, kaya lang wala sya pambili :glee:
  • I remember MB is selling a diesel E class sedan plus BMW used to offer the diesel 3 series. dont know if they are still selling those now. The matrix is the best bet for a diesel sedan, or you could try importing one.

Top Gear Phils. has generally good reviews for the Hyundai Matrix 1.5CRDi in their Sept. 2005 issue. As long as you don't drive thrash it around and get used to revelling in the low-RPM torque (at redline it's reportedly out of puff), it'll suit you fine.

Might I add, the looks also take a bit of getting used to. It seems like something Pininfarina designed on an off day.
  • magkano ang Hyundai Matrix ngayon?? pa post naman po ng pic!! ty

The diesel variant is the most expensive one at PhP678,000, according to motioncars.com's Car Chart. It seems the frugal yet punchy engine is worth it though.
  • Any chance the Hyundai Getz will be offered in a diesel engined variant in the Philippines? Sa ibang bansa kasi they offer this car w/ a CRDI engine under the hood.

uh.. 1.5L diesel engine for a compact sedan seems kinda small... but idunno diesel mileage's the key i suppose.

Based on the performance specs, it can run with most 1.6 and 2.0Lcars. :) It's got the torque and it's an intercooler turbo engine (it even has a cool FMIC - Front Mount Intercooler).

Diesels have gone a long way in the past 10 years.

The Hyundai Matrix makes 80HP @ 4000 RPM and a hearty 184Nm @ 2000 RPM from just 1.5 liters of common-rail lung capacity, boosted by an intercooled turbo. Compare this to the old Kia Pregio we used to drive. The van's 2.7L engine made a weedy 83HP.

Consider also how much weight the Matrix's engine has to move: worlds less than your ordinary old HiAce or L300, let alone an autobox Pregio.

As Europe found out 5 years ago, the accepted route to usable performance is TORQUE, and the diesel Matrix has a lot of it for its size and intended role.
  • the matrix's engine makes good power @ 83hp...my current 3.0 pregio does only 93hp...a difference of only more or less 10hp, and thats at 1500cc's bigger than the matrix!

speaking of diesel engine cars...i've not been seeing those 1.1L diesel engined FIAT Uno's anymore?

I suspect that was a case of the car being ahead of its time. Diesels are good and frugal, sure, but they had to contend with a bad image at the time the Uno came out.

I also think the diesel engines of the local Unos weren't as advanced as the common-rail diesels of today, first brought in locally by Kia/Hyundai.

Then again it could also be a case of FIATs and Italian cars in particular being notorious for bad build quality.

in every barrel of crude oil, less than 10% is gasoline or some higher-octane fuel. more than half of that barrel is diesel and bunker fuel.
  • pwede ba natin buhayin tong thread na to?

I think you may want to check the little Hyundai accent hatchback. It is a 5-door subcompact with a 1.6 crdi diesel engine. I haven't tried it myself though.
  • Used Ford Focus Diesel.

You can also try your luck in finding a second hand Accent sedan (previous generation). I'd surmise its hard to find one though (unahan din yung gma taxi operators dito).

Brand new, the new Accent diesel is worth the look.
