A parked vehicle will actually deteriorate faster then one being used regularly.
Some possible practices to enforce:
- Start the car at least once a week, warm it up for around 4 minutes then drive it around the neighborhood. If you have an empty stretch of road in the area, it's even adviseable to let her rip once in a while (redline driving). Just make sure the engine is already up to the operating temp (usually 10-20 mins after start up).
- Check the tire pressure every 3 weeks (also that of the spare tire).
- Make sure the car is clean inside and out (no mud or muck) to prevent corrosion.
- Put some rat poison (some use pepper and spray it around the engine) to prevent rodents from nesting in the engine bay and eating up your wires.
- Service the car every 6 months or so (change oil, etc) regardless of the mileage. Even if it's not used, acids will build up in the motor oil and would lead to corrosion and stuff.0 -
what i do is 5000km or 6 months whichever comes first. if your car will not be used for a long time, have it waxed and detailed inside out slap in a car cover. if possible start the engine at least once a week. or remove the battery. put in moisture absorber to avoied the damp smell.0

how long should the engine be running before you turn it off?0 -
1. Remove the battery, chances are if you leave the car for a month or so in storage, the battery will become drained.
2. starting the car is not enough, you have to take it out for a spin. 10 to 15 minutes moving is better than 10 to 15 minutes spent idling.
3. if the car sits or will sit for more than 60 days, consider draining the fuel tank and fuel system. After a while, even gasoline will go bad.
4. a car in storage, will get flat spots on its tires, even if the tire pressure is correct. Consider jacking up the car and supporting all its four wheel on car jacks or hollow blocks.
5. invest on a car cover to protect the finish, but remove the cover every two weeks to air out the car. It is also possible that even with a car cover on, the car will get dusty.
Final suggestion, if the car is going to sit for at least a year, consider selling it.0 -

I owned an automobile in the same situation.
Brand new, but I had to go abroad to work.
Good thing my brother was around. Kahit hindi masyado gamit, every 6 months the car was serviced by the dealer.
After two years, I decided to sell the car. Buyer was greatful of the low mileage and the updated car service record. Without the regular service, I could not have gotten the price I sold it for.0
