HERO Angeles, last year's "Star Circle Teen Quest" winner, admits he had a falling out with love-team partner Sandara Park, but denies being suspended by ABS-CBN, his home studio.
Hero's brother and manager Henry Angeles said the rift between his brother and Sandara started while the two were promoting their hit movie "Can This Be Love?" in March. Henry did not elaborate.
"They had a misunderstanding. They never got the chance to patch things up. Sandara already left for Korea," Henry told Inquirer Entertainment last week. "They're civil toward each other, though. But I don't think they can still do a project together."
Sandara, a Korean national, placed second to Hero in the talent search. She flew to Korea last week, reportedly to finish school.
Hero has been the subject of stories in the tabloids these past two weeks. Some reports say ABS-CBN suspended the actor because he had an "attitude problem."
"He was never suspended," Henry insisted, "or we would have received a memo from Star Magic by now."
Star Magic is ABS-CBN's talent center.
Henry said his brother was "puzzled" about the "negative" stories. "How come none of them tried to talk with us and clarify things?" Henry wondered. "We never had the chance to air our side, or even express our sentiments. There were writers who got in touch with with us, but they never wrote what we talked about."
Now, Henry said, the family has decided to "clear our name."
Contrary to what earlier came out in the papers, he pointed out, his brother never demanded "VIP treatment" from network executives or from Star Magic. He also denied stories saying Hero caused trouble on the set of his movie with Sandara.
"One story said malaki na ang ulo ni Hero. Another said Hero and I had a quarrel with Direk Joey (Reyes, 'Can This Be Love?')," Henry said. "As far as Hero was concerned, things went on smoothly."
Henry added that the whole family was upset after reading articles implying that the family was making a milking cow out of Hero. "Pinapagod daw namin si Hero; we let him do all the work. That's not true. There was even a story that said sinulsulan ko si (I urged) Hero to start a fight with Sandara."
Henry stressed that nothing of the sort happened.
Hero's mom, Leny, said write-ups describing her as a "stage mom" made her depressed. "I try not to go to the Star Magic offices precisely because I don't want to be accused of that," she explained. "For the record, I've been there only once. I feel very bad. Pero pinagpapasa-Diyos ko na lang."
Henry said he was also wondering how issues that concerned only ABS-CBN and their family are leaked to the press. He was specifically referring to the time when Sandara failed to show up at a promotional show with Hero at the Pacific Mall in Lucena City on April 23. The Korean actress had to fly to Cebu that same day.
"The write-ups said it had become my habit to bring ABS-CBN talents to provincial shows without the network's permission," said Henry. "I'm not only Hero's manager. I'm a booker, too. I make sure that I have the approval of managers before I bring talents to the provinces. The gig in Lucena City had been booked way ahead."
Again he lamented: "Where did those writers get that story? They should have called me before publishing it. [As it was] the facts were twisted. It's so sad."
