Why buy an SUV that isn't 4x4?

Personally, I still don't understand why people would buy an SUV that is only 4x2?
Of course pamporma nga lang, city driving, di naman off-roader driver ka. But what the heck? It's an SUV, It's supposed to be used that way, when you need to. Just an idea.

I think many people buy 4X2 SUVs just to be in (pang-porma ika nga). But at the same time, they want something more affordable and does not consume a lot of fuel compared to their 4x4 counterparts. Besides, if you're not really an off-roader and you will use your SUV almost 98% of the time on the road, it seems it is a wise choice to settle for a 4X2. Sayang lang yung 4X4 technology kung hindi mo rin naman magagamit to its full capacity.0

diba toyota has a new suv coming up... its 4x4... the last time i heard they were selling suv nga na 4x2, well, sa bagay its cheaper and it looks cool... mine is 4x4 though, humabol pa0

pampaporma and status quo, pero most people use the utility part more than the sport part so they opt for the 4X2,since its cheaper than the 4X4 versions, but if you live in an area or your line of work usually puts you through the muckiest of roads, or where there are no roads, you best go for the 4X4.0

metro manila streets = "off-road"
personally baliktad. i prefer driving an SUV here in manila and a lowered tuned-up sedan in the province.
here in the city, the "unreal" SUVs give you the same benefit of a real SUV w/o occupying two slots of parking space.0 -
Being a third world country, most pinoys are budget conscious, the SUV's are primaprily used as urban trekkers not for Off road use. Why buy a system that for
1. they might never use
2. They may not know how to use
3. Adds weight to the car, meaning lower fuel economy for something they will never use.
4. Price of a 4x4 is way higher than a 4x2
Looks and price are key to pinoy car purchases. even with the better high stance of a 4x4, it would never outweight its disadvantages for the casual pinoy SUV buyer.
I also tried to ask the same question of Convertible car buyers here in the phil. They buy convertible cars here in the phil but i almost never see them use it, even during holidays and sundays.0 -
I still believe a 4wd system is an essential part of an SUV. Though most owner's won't take them off-road when new, they will inevitably age and will become more off-roadable when older.
At least with a brand new 4x4 SUV, the potential will always be there.
When a 4x2 SUV gets old, you still can't take it off-road.
My rig was initially purchased as some rich gal's driver-driven city cruiser. No one even knew how to use the transfer case. Well at least it was there. Because when I got a hold of the unit, the transfer case sure got used a lot.0 -
4x2 because of
- high ground clearance.
- good ride height.
- many of them can load heavier stuff than regular sedans.
- still good enough for moderately rough roads (think Halsema Highway from Baguio to Sagada).
- if you don't go anywhere you'd need to ford rivers, swim in mud and scale boulders, a 4x4 would just be an expensive bragging right.0 -
I think the question should be "why even buy a 4X4"?
Buying a 4X2 just to "look good and trendy" is actually more justifiable than buying a 4X4 just to "look like the real deal" but not need it anyway...Few points are:
4X4 vehicles are fuel hungry. Therefore you end up spending more money on petrol. Which also means it's not eco-friendly. I think you spend more money on parts, too... So all those drawbacks, just so you can tell your friends that you have a 4X4 SUV... I mean, really...How many people with 4X4's really go off-road all the time?
Personally, SUV's in Manila are themselves impractical, and are meant only for the image conscious. Most people who buy them do so because it makes them look good. I think it's silly... but I don't think people should go a notch up and get a 4X4 SUV just so they don't look silly on a big 4X2 vehicle...
Ya know, talk about pissing contests...0
