Gold Coast, Australia

I'm thinking of joining my bf when he goes here for a training in November. He will be staying for around 10 days. Is it worth it to go here? Or is everything really expensive? This is an unbudgeted trip for this year and I want to know if 10 days is worth my money. Our accommodation will be free and I might be able to use up some miles for my airfare but food, going around and tours will all be c/o me. How much do you think will I spend for 10 days? What's to see here?

Thanks for your inputs.

    I LOVE GOLD COAST!!!!

    *okay*
  • Your major expenses are already waived (10 days accomodation and fare) so you're left with leisure and food expenses. The main activity in the Gold Coast is sun tanning, surfing and other water activities. Travelling there in November is perhaps the best time to go as the climate is not as intense as, say, January (height of summer).
    Some sites worth looking include:
:spinstar: Surfers Paradise- Surfers Paradise beach extends for almost 3km and upscale cafes, restaurants and shops litter its surrounds
    :spinstar:Coolangatta- a polpular surfing joint
    :spinstar:Theme Parks-
    Dreamworld
    Seaworld
    Wet n' Wild Water Park
    Warner Bros Movie World
    Currumbin Sanctuary
    Sanctuary Cove
    Fleays Wildlife Park
    Paradise Country
    :spinstar: Other places of interest-
    Conrad Jupiters Casino
    The Gold Coast Convention Centre
    The Gold Coast Turf Club
    The Gold Coast Arts Centre
    Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre
Holden Performance Driving Centre - Yatala (Museum)
    Beenleigh Distillery

On top of all that, The Gold Coast is around 40 minutes away from Brisbane and 20 minutes from Tweed Heads (border of Queensland and New South Wales). Travel further south for another 2 hours and discover the hippy-esque precinct of Byron Bay. Stop by Casuarina Beach in Queenscliffe and Cabarita for beautiful secluded beaches.

Hi BaLdoMarO, thanks so much for your inputs :) How long is the travel from Gold Coast to the Great Barrier Reef?
  • The Great Barrier Reef is VAST. It's southern tip starts at a town called Bundaberg and it stretches all the way up to the Tropical North Queensland. The Reefs are divided into major segments (From North to SOuth): The Far Northern Reefs, The Cairns Section / Tropical Northern, The Central Section / Whitsundays, Heart Reef (as the name suggests the reefs are formed in the shape of a heart), The Southern Section / Mackay Capricorn Reefs (Southern Most tip). The full distance is roughly 3,000 kms. So thats a lot of driving involved if you're thinking of car travel. If it's your first time to visit the Reefs and if you wish to mingle with a big international crowd, hike to CAIRNS and experience the reefs there (1 big party place too!). If you want seclusion, the Whitsundays and Heart Reefs are more appropriate choices but be prepared to spend a lot of $$$. Im not sure if there is a flight between Gold Coast and Cairns but I know that there is a direct flight between Brisbane and Cairns. Check out qantas.com.au or jetstar.com.au or virginblue.com.au for fares and schedule. Flight time between Brisbane and Cairns is about 1hr40 mins.
  • I love Gold Coast! Everything's there already. Nice beaches, Dreamworld, Warner Brothers' Movie World, Sea World, Wet and Wild, etc. It's really worth it to go there :)
