‘Let the Love Begin’ grosses R68 million and counting

Even the producers of the blockbuster movie "Let The Love Begin," starring young stars Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin and Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado, were not prepared for the kind of success that their movie enjoyed at the tills when it opened during the Valentine week.

"We were hoping for a successful film with ‘Let The Love Begin,’ but we certainly didn’t expect that this movie is going to be this successful," says Annette Gozon, newly-appointed head of GMA Films.
While she still refrains from giving us exact figures about the gross income of the movie, we did a research of our own. According to our mole from the theater group, the nationwide estimate of gross income for the first week alone of "Let The Love Begin" is R50 million, as against "Dreamboy’s" R23 million for Star Cinema.
Undoubtedly, the formula employed by GMA Films has "defeated" that of Star Cinema’s Piolo Pascual-Bea Alonzo project. While the box-office success is oftentimes the determining factor for every film’s success, reviews which already came out in the papers for both films have shown absolute edge for "Let The Love Begin."
Prior to the victory party held at Grappa’s on Tomas Morato in QC Tuesday night thrown by GMA Films, we saw Tita Annabelle Rama, mother of Richard Gutierrez at Ricky Reyes’s One On One salon in Greenhills and she told us that the figure as of that night is already nearing the R70 million mark. She said, "During the first week run, the ratio of moviegoers for ‘Let The Love Begin’ and ‘Dreamboy’ is 8:1 in favor of GMA Films. This week, it is now 4:1, still in favor of ‘Let The Love Begin," the proud mother says.
Mother Lily sort of corroborated this when we saw her at Grappa’s saying that the Mac Aleajandre-directed youth film for the Valentine season has now hit the R68 million mark.
Annette Gozon humbly acknowledged the same question by saying, "I have been advised not to disclose the figures as of yet. But suffice it to say na kumikita na kami ngayon. Rest assured we will give you the official box-office return after the movie’s run," she said.
She excitedly tells that GMA Films is now looking at releasing three more projects within the year, one of which will be the movie version of "Darna" which is going to be their entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. "If there will be no more problems with all the negotiations going on, we are looking at Regine Velasquez to be in the title role," she confirmed.
The other two projects, according to Annette, will be a romantic comedy and another super hero type of movie, "like Darna," she said.
Needless to say, this scenario makes Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin the hottest GMA properties as of now. In fact, Tita Annabelle also told us that GMA has already lined up a new film for the two of them, the movie adaptation of the hit fantasy series "Mulawin" which shall commence shooting after the TV series signs off in March.
We took the chance to ask Tita Annabelle if she actually expected that Richard will hit it this big in the movie industry when he entered it? "Oo," she said. "Kasi alam kong mabait na bata si Richard. Hindi siya suplado. Hindi siya mareklamo. Mabait siya sa mga fans. Gusto talaga niya mag-artista," she said.
Mother Lily is quick to the draw, however. Before any of this could happen, she had "snatched" Richard and Angel to do a movie under Regal Films which will entirely be shot in San Francisco, California in the US.
Line producer Manny Valera said, "we’ll fly to the US in March to shoot this film. Mac Alejandre will direct it again and we have a nice love triangle story for this one. We got Ann Curtis to be the third party in this triangle."
Before this film, however, Regal also made it a point to launch in the movies, the tandem of the original Starstruck ultimate survivors Mark and Jennylyn. The two, fresh from the success of "Let The Love Begin" will be starring in a love story directed by Mac Alejandre soon.
In closing, we asked Ms. Gozon whether the stars and the director are going to be given their bonus soon? She laughed and said, "wala sa powers ko ang decision diyan. We will submit it to the board for approval."

    EXPLOSIVE - MORE VICTIMS
    By Tess Clarin
Let The Love boasts of Richard Gutierrez and Angel Locsin plus the popular duo of Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras while Dreamboy has Piolo Pascual and Bea Alonzo. By the way, parehong nakakuha ng B rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board ang 2 nasabing movies. That means na may 50% tax rebate sila.
Huh, to quote Aga, babuyan na ba talaga? Siguro ABS-CBN got carried away in their dreams!

  • janray:)janray:) PEx Influencer ⭐⭐⭐

    reality bites talaga...
