Just this November 1. Man, I love the Star Tollway. It's a great place to let your car loose. I was travelling around 160kmh.0 -
I did QC-Baguio in 3 1/2 hours in my Corolla GLi manual. The first time was in 1999 I left Manila at about 4:30am and there was nothing on the road. The second time was just last April where I left Baguio at about 5am.
Also did QC to Subic in 1 hour 10 back when I was working there in 1998.0 -
I think with the Baguio thing, when you drive without traffic you realize just how close it is. And that the lack of traffic makes all the difference because you can maintain a high average speed.
My dad would tell me that back in the 60s and 70s, 3 hours to Baguio was entirely normal.0 -
From my house in Sucat to an office parking lot in Mandaluyong
via SLEX and C5 (about 24 kilometers)
5:45am - 6:00am Sunday
1989 XL Corolla (4 people on board)
My dad, who was riding at the back - didn't enjoy it when I overtook a trailer truck on my way through the Bagong Ilog Flyover from C5 (when the 3 lane road narrows to 2 lanes). I could feel his foot pressing down hard on his imaginary brakes. I think I scared everyone on board.
I never did this again, though. Normally, this trip would take me about 30 minutes, without traffic.0 -
Balintawak interchange to Manaoag, Pangasinan:
travel time using a Mitsibishi Lnacer GTI - 4:30 a.m. - 7: 25 a.m.0 -

That's quite true up to the 80's if i may add... anything between Tarlac City and Urdaneta in Pangasinan was open road. A 5 hour trip would already include a lengthy stop over and easy driving in the family van. Now, 4-5 hours is already considered "good time".
The big hassle nowadays are the ff:
- slow trikes (imagine the time and gas spent whenever you're doing a good run of 80-100kph then you have to brake to 20kph for these guys who run on the middle of the road).
- slow trucks (the leader of the pack when it comes to backed-up slow moving traffic)
- congestion on through the towns and cities (if they applied some MMDA tactics like clearing the sidewalks and widening the roads, they flow wouild improve a lot).0 -
slamm -- with Baguio I must say that the rehabilitated NLEX cuts about 15-20 minutes travel time, particularly in the bulacan area. Wonderful road that's going to be!
The trikes are just awful. In areas like Tarlac they already have trike lanes but they still stay on the main road.0 -
I haven't been able to go driving on too many long trips so I can't contribute much to this thread.
I do remember driving home from Tagaytay to Bicutan in the region of 2.5-3 hours last year...I guess that's hardly fast in terms of absolute speed compared to you guys
Slamm, Mikoid,
The major bottlenecks I've noticed on the way to Baguio are Urdaneta and Moncada. Passing through Urdaneta in particular is heinous at 11 am...0 -
