subaru forester

Ok ok, i know i started a new thread but i need help.My mom is asking me for help and guidance on what she needs to buy (or else she'll just hop on the bandwagon and get a jazz like she did getting the Adventure two years ago). She has had a truck (mitsu strada), cars (corolla, merc (80's)), an AUV (mitsu adventure), etc etc and now she's thinking of getting a vios. Not saying the vios is bad but i think (and know) that something like the subaru forestor will be alright for her. A car and SUV in one. Dyan kasi sa pinas eh medyo bako-bako ang daan, so kung kotse medyo mababa ang clearance, kung naman CRV, Escape, Rav4 eh mini suv -- looks better with my younger siblings -- it's too yuppy looking (no offense meant). any of those european cars or high end japanese cars are out of the equation, she doesn't like to the "showie-showie" (her words) aspects of the car ALTHOUGH i do tell her that they are well-built. I was just thinking that the Forester may be a good choice for her. what do you guys have to say about the forester? thanks in advance.

If you want the Subaru Forester show this to your mom.

It is the safest 4x4 according to the NHTSA.
I can vouch that the AUV CR-V and the Escape are no good.0 -
The Forester ain't bad. The 2nd-gen model looks way better than its predecessor.
It doesn't have the lofty driving position of other soft-roaders, but because of that, you'll feel like you're driving more of a car than a truck with the Forester. Seems like it has deceptively good ground clearance too.
Only question mark is the after-market support as you'll have to go to GM for that (GM owns Subaru now).0 -
nah, there is no point of owning a forrester here in the philippines, imo. If she's thinking of getting a vios, she might be thinking about fuel economy the most. the car really isn't bad.
i like the forester alot. pero forresters just don't work here sa philippines.0 -
great advice .. i just still don't know what to do though. well, i was just looking at this car for an option for her. Its just the proliferation of vioss (how do you make it plural? heheh), the cities, civics, altises, etc -- something new -- that's just me. I remember back then, she got the strada (long long time ago/ '92) when nobody was buying. ANYHOO. ive been on some cars and acceleration isn't really that important for me. especially if ur driving in manila. i may just have to halt my persuasive maneuvers and surrender and let her buy a car.
thanks for the help guys.0 -
You dont really have much choice or exclusivity here if you're considering a sub-2M car. By your description of your mom she doesnt want to spend that much either. So you have to choose the newest. In that case you may want to suggest a Honda Jazz. It gets about 11kpl and comes in funky colours. What makes this car interesting is the fact it's a hatchback and seeming it is a hatch most local buyers would steer clear of it. There's nothing inherently wrong with hatches, as it is popular in Europe but here people still prefer four doors and a trunk as opposed to five doors.0

The Foresters here are the 2.0X versions, good for somewhere around 140 BHP.
We're not getting the turbocharged 2.0XT (174 BHP).
zYme119: Top speed is a moot point for most off-roaders...a Pajero 2.5 turbodiesel can reach 110 km/h. MAXIMUM. Consider the Forester blessed by comparison.0 -
shun_sakurai .... hmmm, yes, by that comparison, the forester's blessed.
greatbop ... well, when comparison shopping for a car do you not look at everything the car has to offer ... isn't top speed something you look at too? And who said i would only drive in the metro? anyhoo, wla lang. don't take it personally.0 -
shun_sakurai -- are you sure it's only 110 kilometer per hour and not 110 miles per hour? becase i just looked at my speedometer a while ago and 110 kilometers per hour was like 70 miles per hour. I don't think a pajero 3dr would only go that fast (but then again, i haven't seen a pajero 3dr up close and personal). Again, just checking.0

^ It depends which model Pajero you use.
Ours was a 1995 2.5 turbodiesel 5-door model with 4WD hardware. Last I checked 110 km/h arrived and no matter how much I pushed the engine there was no more speed. By the way we just sold it.
To compare, a friend's 3 door Pajero A/T in comparison could reach 145. Different engine perhaps (2.8 TD I presume?) and of course less doors means less weight to pull.
Besides MPH-calibrated speedos are rare in the Philippines so why bother using them? US at UK lang naman ginagamit ang MPH eh.
Take my word for it...our Pajero's ran 110 km/h top whack. 65 mph if you prefer Imperial measurement0 -

nah.. not really. most cars rin naman have speed limiters on them that keeps the speed from going over a certain speed.0
