I strongly suggest getting proper lowering springs, not just cutting your stock springs.

Anyway since nagpa-lowering ka na you better have a wheel alignment done ASAP. I think camber does change with a lowered ride height (Import Racer's Drifting magazine 2003).

Alternatively you could compress your stock springs so that they are shorter overall. Fit them to your car and you get lower ride height. This is what some of my trackday addict friends do.

I think it seems safer to do this than simply cutting your stock springs.

di ba marami narin nagpa-putol? may mga bad experiences na ba sila bout their car?

Cutting your springs gives it an unknown spring rate factor. In so doing, the spring rate on each of your shocks will be possibly uneven. In the long run, this can cause uneven tire wear, constant misalignments, and premature degradation of your shock absorbers.

Another con of such a modification is that the handling of the car becomes unpredictable and thus unreliable. The weight and balance of the car has diverted in an unknown design direction that normally, original engineers and aftermarket engineers would've taken into account when making shocks and springs. But cutting the springs brings your car into uncharted territory which is why I'm never an advocate of such a practice. :|

Please if you're gonna lower your car- DO IT PROPERLY. If you can't afford new springs, then just don't do it at all.
  • Never cut your springs dude. Listen to everyone here. Save up for some springs if you really want to lower your car.

plus the fact that your car is 16 years old. and your springs are also 16 years old. YOUR CAR IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

Yun ang masama eh. it's bad enough that people rice their cars out... much more so ang mga 'kuripot' (they're not poor. they just don't want to shell out money dahil too expensive daw)... so they cut corners and make their cars a lot less safe.

Safety should be paramount concern. ALWAYS.

Kung talagang langpers ka at tipid meals ka for lowering (no money for springs and you can't wait to get a lower ride height), ipa-compress mo na lang stock springs mo.

You can always return them to stock ride height later on.

I still recommend getting proper lowering springs though. B12 Sentra naman yang kotse mo eh, I'm pretty sure there are a lot of shops you can get lowering springs from.

Compared to you, I'd have a harder time looking for aftermarket suspension parts to fit my SX8 City---alanganin yung kotse eh, it's not as popular in the aftermarket as Civics. Consider yourself lucky.

Medyo mahirap maghanap ng lowering springs for a B12 Sentra model AFAIK but if you put in 15" rims and tires, you'll still achieve a good stance. :)

IMHO, the money you save on putol will go down the drain in having the suspension repaired later on. :(

Why lower it at all? So it'll look cool? That's a flimsy reason for lowering your car. Think of the disadvantages!

^ Normally, I take the "do what makes you happy" stand when it comes to modifying cars, but I have to agree that looks alone aren't a very good reason to lower a car. Just IMHO... :)
  • I agree with Mokkori on that one. If he feels better lowering his car, so be it. Just don't cut the springs.

It's like putting mags & spoiler on owner jeeps with diesel engines! As if it's going make it look good or make them faster. It's an eye sore if you ask me!

^uh what did the diesel engine have anything to do with how bad the car is?
  • @Greatbop

probably the sound of the engine is not appropriate to the "sporty look" that the owner is projecting? hehehe

never cut ur factory springs, no good at all.

alternative way to make ur car look lowered is to buy a 4 pc skirt or lips, then buy bigger rims.

that way di kana mangangailangan ng camber kit. :)

pero kung luma na kotse mo like that 88' nissan model, why spend ur money in a garbage-look car anyway? its old and no worthy at all.....

save some money and buy a new one....

Dude, do be careful with your choice of words as people may take it in offense... especially when it comes to their cars. Just because a car is old it does not mean its not worthy at all... Its too hasty a generalization.
