Have you ever been distracted by a loud buzzing sound of cars while peacefully listening at a class? Probably. Those buzzing bombastic cars with their hey-look-at-me drivers are all over around the country disrupting the silence of communities and pissing people off. Their drivers, or probably "racers", can't distinguish the difference between a racing strip and the Academic Oval which really shows their "coolness" by disrupting class discussions when they full throttle. They usually drive a not-really-for-racing car, like a Honda Civic, yet they decorate it with "racing" paraphernalia so it would be as fast as a Mitsubishi Evolution. Have you ever wondered what they are called? Yes, they have a name. They're mean and fast. They are the rice-boys.
So what is a rice-boy? A rice-boy can be identified by his car and how it looks like. They usually drive a car not designed for racing yet they make it look like they can beat a Porsche. The Honda Civic is the typical rice-boy car. They decorate their cars with after market rims, lowering springs, racing stickers and of course, the most important the high-sounding and annoying 5-inch muffler which gives it the racing car sound. Racing car sound for them, noise for us bystanders.
Rice-boys originated from the US. Most rice boys are Asian male obsessed in modifying their cars so it would look fast. There are people who modifies their cars for performance. There are also people who modifies their cars to make it look good. And the rice-boys modify their cars so it would look like fast.
And now, the rice-boy phenomenon took the Philippines by storm! You can see them everywhere: school, park, churches, malls and probably in your own house. They drag race in every blank roads imaginable. They swerve in and out streets with their intimidating racing sound. When people look at them, they push their gas pedal so hard that they will burst your ear drums out.
Filipino rice-boys think they are really cool. They think that going in full throttle in a bustling street or a academic community like UP is a nice way to impress girls. They don't see the perils of drag racing in the streets of Libis or the Mindanao Avenue. They use their Civics, Sentras, Lancers and 323s as if they are the racing machines of the millennium. They decorate their fast-and-furious cars with intimidating stickers like "****in' Fast", "Powered by Honda" and "Type-R" stickers all over. The Philippines has a noise pollution because of the rattling sound of jeepneys and tricycles. And the Pinoy rice-boys joined in to make it even worse!
Going in full throttle in a busy street can cause accidents. It imperils the life of the pedestrians and bystanders. Bragging that you have a "fast" car by racing in schools and universities disrupts class discussions. Drag racing in public streets and highways can cause horrible accidents especially in the night. People who drag race in public roads even stop other vehicles from using the road because there is a race going on. No one has the right to do that! There's nothing wrong in drag racing. But drag race in private.
Those Pinoy rice-boys are a bunch of irresponsible and apathetic people. they drag race or full throttle during the night. They don't care if people can't sleep because of their high sounding mufflers. They don't care if people can get squashed whenever they try to outrace each other in populous places.
What makes Pinoy rice-boys different from rice-boys from other countries is their cars. Using economy cars for bragging like the Civic, Sentra, Lancer and 323 is already pathetic. Pinoys stretched that to the old box-typed Lancers, Tamaraws, owners and almost any car imaginable! They slap in stickers like "Powered by Honda" (even if you can already see it is a Honda car), Type-(insert letter of your choice), "Blazing Power" and a banner in the wind shield like Nismo (it belongs to the racing division of Nissan, because it is a stock Sentra family car). There's even a rice-boy magazine that says that the Honda City 1.5 L makes a great sporting car. The Honda City is the entry-level car, not the performance type. Muffler shops sprouted everywhere because of the need to show your "macho" image by amplifying the sound of your car. The louder and more disrupting, the better. They are even worse than the sputter of the jeepney and tricycle!
Pinoy rice-boys can buy their paraphernalia from everywhere. Banawe is the haven for auto parts. There are a lot of shops all over the country where you can lower your car, install racing exhaust systems and paint customized looks. The proliferation of cheap Chinese auto part makes it even affordable to turn your family car into the ultimate racing machine.
There's a difference between going fast and going look-like fast. Pinoy drivers easily embraced the pathetic and illusionary culture of Rice-Boys. Those who accepts this culture shows gullible they are. Sticking a sticker or installing a huge muffler doesn't make your car faster. It shows how pathetic and stupid you are.

By local standards I guess the cars mentioned are good enough. The description of the pinay was kinda mean though. She's kinda cute but that doesnt mean you have to bash her.
What I found really sad is this fat white man who owns a riced up minivan. It got neon lights undearneath and shiit. Makes you wonder if the fellow thought he was Mr Spock or something.0 -

That basically comes with the territory. One wants to show off, many will criticize. Bashing is a part of it.Originally posted by Pao|o

Neon lights underneath? Was the mini-van previously owned by Marty McFly? Check the interior. There could be a Flux Capacitor in there.0 -
The article above is not only filipinos, but most people who wants a fast ride (or fast-looking ride), but doesnt have the money.
One of the cheapest way is the muffler, lowering springs, and body kit. Once you have the combo of all three, sometimes you'd be decieved.
MOST of them filipinos are probably in their younger age. You know, when popularity and girls matter. How do I know? Well, in my younger days, I was one of them... Well, I wanted speed, but I didnt have the money to do it. I never did, and I still dont.
Decorating cars with performance stickers make me laugh and vomit at the same time though.0 -
Tsk tsk tsk. Taga-HCP yan. She's a pretty nice girl actually.
SlowRSX: That's a B16A swap
I've seen her car in the metal, it's pretty darn cute. Pink all over.
Ang sa akin lang people will always call other people "ricey"...if owning a Honda makes me a riceboy eh di TRIPLE JAVA RICE PLEASE!0 -

As for the girl you can talk trash about her ride but not the girl per se. I think it unsporting to do so. Cute siya actually.
I think the minivan used to be own by his brother in law. Loser bought it and upgraded it with lights and shiit. He thinks people would call it rice and get offended my take is that it is just plain lame and wouldnt qualify for rice. The same. The same whiteboy complains of bad gas mileage (cheap skate kasi) but he shouldnt be surprised seeming he slapped on so much junk onto his mommy mobile.
People like him makes me proud he doesnt drive on local streets.0 -
"Ang sa akin lang people will always call other people "ricey"...if owning a Honda makes me a riceboy eh di TRIPLE JAVA RICE PLEASE"
owning a honda does not automatically make you a ricer. There are peope who own hondas and treat it as what it really is. a compact/ midsized car.
it's not a sports car.0 -
it's not a sports car.
It depends really on how you define a sports car. Personally I define a sports car in terms of performance and with that Civics can be slightly modified to achieve "sports car" like performance.
I hate ricers....especially those who drive with their backrest set on the lowest position, pag siksikan at pinahan na umuupo naman ng maayos its obvious they don't know their car's dimensions.
Hehehehhe.0 -
tsaka hindi ba mas delikado kapag ganun..0

uh.. you say you hate ricers. but that there is exactly how a ricer thinks in the very first place.
anyway... Honda has some great sport cars no doubt. andyan yung S2000 and yung NSX...
Civics are passenger cars. and that's that.0 -

Sorry, but I can't agree with this statement. Although we're now playing at semantics here, there are many cars that are generally accepted as "sports" cars but handle horribly in corners. Take for example most American sports cars. Monsters like the Dodge Viper and Corvette are widely accepted as sports cars and although I've never actually driven one, reviews more or less agree that these aren't the best handling machines around. Fast? Definitely... good handling? Hardly...
But then again, what you consider to be a sports car is really up to you in the end.0 -
I'm just wondering what credibility the author has in bashing people who drive Honda Civics. I think it's unfair to generalize that people who drive Civics and put stickers on them are riceboys. I doubt even if the author could tell a highly modified (in terms of engine, suspension, etc.) civic against one that's all show and no go.
Those that think Civics can't perform or handle well, you don't know what you're talking about. I have personally seen a lot of Civics match the Mitsu Evo's time in Batangas Racing Circuit and come close to a Porsche 993 or 996's time. So what does that tell you?
A Civic might not be a sports car but it definitely can be made to handle and perform well.0
