nerd forever
Available models are 1.8 and 1.6 sedan and 1.6 hatchback. Prices still to be determined but rumors are they're in the 700k - 800k range. Pre-selling starts in July. First 200 models are CBUs from Japan!

Sigh...true to Pinoy tradition, hatchbacks get the short end of the engine stick. Killjoys.
Still, that's good news. The 3 is a nice looking number, especially in hatchback form. And with Mazda on a roll nowadays, their reputation has nowhere to go but up.0 -
Just PRAY they provide manual gearboxes. I hear the 3's autobox has ill-chosen ratios...gaping gaps in between gears blunting the already slow acceleration :(0
-
wait.. so a 1.8 engine will be available.. that'll be what? 115 hp?
sayang yung hatchback walang 1.8L..
stupid mazda. alam naman nila na ang biggest sell ng Mazda 3 sa states is yung engine displacement..
pero why bring out a crappy engine here for?
why do you think Mazda 6 barely sells?0 -
Not quite accurate.
They're bringing in 1.6 sedan, 1.6 hatchback and 2.0 sedan. My bro works for a company in Laguna which is a supplier of Ford and he has seen the initial 1.6 and 2.0 liter units. From the description, looks like the ultimate C-car. They've got variable valve timing and check this out, a Tiptronic lever. Coolest thing on earth.
One more thing, Mazda 3 will never come as BU in the Philippines, they'll all be coming from the Laguna plant.
No news though on prices.Originally posted by Jacob

thats more like it! 2.0L is the way to go! pero, walang 2.0 for the hatchback? WTF?0 -
Kyle...
Engine swap na yan. Heheheheh
I still pray they'll bring in units with a proper manual gearbox. Mazda's 1.6L engines are lacking in power compared to competing engines from Toyota and Honda, I've heard, and the long-legged ratios on their automatics don't help.
Not exactly the correct recipe for a brand wanting to market itself with the slogan ZOOM-ZOOM, I think.0 -
I think tiptronics are a matter of preference but I agree that standard stick shift MT is the way to go... much cheaper and easier to maintain than electronically controlled shifting like tiptronic... only good tiptronic has in my book is that it might shave a few miliseconds on track time but that's for the serious racer...0

Mazda oughta learn from Peugeot.
The 307 uses Porsche's Tiptronic tranny (they're the originals) and even then the shifts are jerky at best. Besides what's the point of having one when you have just 4 ratios to play with?
Until these transmissions improve in shift quality, best consider them a novelty unless you don't have any choice (in the case of the 307). In the latter scenario, just leave it in D.0 -
what can you say?0
-
A bit overstyled but very handsome especially in hatchback form.
Why no 5-speed gearbox? And why the piddling 1.6L engines?0 -
I like it as far as styling is concerned. It breaks away from the common Japanese look sported by the Sentra/Corolla/Civic line of cars.
Prices please, anyone? What colors are available? Since I must admit that I have a hard time driving manual transmission cars, the automatics are fine with me as long as there's not much shift shock and the ratios are still evenly matched to the engine's capabilities.0 -
"t's nice , I like it. I don't think the parts will be hard to find. And it does come with a 5/speed."
no it doesn't. it's only in 4 speed A/T . pero there will be either a 1.8 or a 2.0 l engine (just can't remember which one).
and i'm more positive na it is the 2.0L. and if that's the case.. doen't that pretty much makies the mazda 6 a pointless car?
the damned 6 is so underpowered, and expensive that anyone who barely know anything about cars will just shrug the car off "sports car" my @$$.0 -
I like the new design stream that Mazda's taking with their new cars, but they have to back it up with after-sale support. Parts are always a problem with Mazda's here and I do wish that they had a MT version... although a tiptronic shifter wouldn't be too bad either, they need to make sure that servicing such a complicated transmission wouldn't be a problem.0
