HIDs are kinda expensive.
I checked the HCP forums. Minimum cost for an HID/xenon headlamp setup would be PhP19,000. A friend's talyer (Fusion R, along E-Rodriguez) is offering that.
At the other end of the spectrum are the Raybrig HIDs (a recognized Japanese brand)...PhP40,000. Yikes.
Major headaches for HIDs are the costs for replacement parts.
Replacement ballast: PhP6,000
Replacement bulbs: PhP10,000-14,000
If you want better light from your stock headlamp setup, your best bet is to get Osram Silver Star bulbs. 50% brigher than stock, and they won't cost you an arm and a leg. PhP900-1,100 depending on where you look.0 -
If you do go for OSRAM Silver Stars or other aftermarket bulbs, do make an effort to find out what kind of socket your headlamps use for their bulbs.
If I may advise you...don't get HID look-alikes just to save money. They're worthless in the rain.
Hope this helps.0 -
Yep mahal talaga HIDs...
I think you gotta pay for the ballast as well as the bulbs (which cost an arm and a leg already). Retrofit lang ng existing halogen headlamp system kasi ang mangyayari eh.
Siguro mas okey if your car was HID/xenon-equipped in the first place. Trouble is, you'd have to look to PhP2+ million cars for that.
Kung Evo VIII ang ride mo, eh di ayos...HID na yun, stock, IIRC.0 -
May distinction pa for HIDs that have high/low beams and those that don't have high beams. Some car manufacturers, I hear, use HIDs for low beams and cheaper halogen projectors for high beam operation.
Caveat emptor.
But if you can afford HIDs...laking benefit niyan to visibility. Lahat kita mo.0 -
are HID's/Xenon still OK during rains?0

True HIDs are great lights whatever the weather.
"Fake" HIDs (e.g. super-white or blue-white bulbs) are worthless in the rain. They "white out."
That's why if you want to upgrade your lighting better pony up the extra money for true HIDs...or stick to aftermarket bulbs like OSRAM silver stars.0 -
Here are a couple good links on HID lighting.

--- This explains the difference of true HIDs from those that claim to be HIDs. Main thing it says is that on cars with stock xenon/HID headlamps, the color temperature is just 4300K, not a sky-high number. Combined with a special light projector, this provides excellent lighting.

They're certainly brighter than stock halogen lamps, but they're not 100% white. They come pretty darn close though.0 -
Blue bulbs and "super whites" dont work well in the rain. They just look brighter because of the differences in their color spectrum range.
Aside from HID, another cheaper but effective alternative is to have your headlights rewired, add relays and Ceramic sockets so you can use real 90/100W bulbs (Osram, Philips, FLosser, etc...).
Just make sure that a reputable electrical shop like REys or Wizzard does the job. I've had mine done at a cheaper shop before (charged around P700 for the work) and my headlights got busted on me one night in Zambales. NOw i usually go to REys ELectrical for headlight rewire jobs (costs around P1600 for the work, including the Bosch CEramic sockets) then i use Philips 90/100W bulbs (stock white or all-weather).0 -
