The 2004 PBL Unity Cup Thread

beefeaterbeefeater Banned by Admin PExer
I ahve created this thread for the general interest of the PBL followers like myself, now that the PBL opening is just a week away. Let's discuss the latest about the league, especially the teams, line-ups, and others (esp. the issue of TV coveror -- is it officially ABS-CBN Sports which will handle the production/coverages)?

Watch out for the opening of the 2004 PBL Unity Cup on March 28 (Sunday)!

roadwarrior thanks for the info! As for the VHB, I heard it earlier from Ed Picson's radio program over DWIZ (when he interviewed Commish Chino) that the PBL will take them as team muses...and it's most probably because of the ABS-CBN connection (VHB are nowadays identified with ABS)

Do you have the idea who'll comprise thebroadcast panel -- will it include Sev Sarmenta, Bob Novales, Bill Velasco, Anthony Suntay, and even Freddie Webb, since they're all with ABS-CBN Sports?

And it would be the first time that I'd see that someone coming from the ranks of the basketball blue-collar will be the guest of honor...saludo ako sa PBL...

And the Sunday games are like collegiate match-ups...FEU vs Leran (ewan ko if they did square-off in the UAAP-NCAA benefit games), followed by UST vs ADMU...this would really be interesting!

By the way, if you do have the fnal line-ups please let us fans know.

From Viva Mineral Water, how true is the news that the following players are no longer part of the team: Rhagnee Sinco, James Zablan, and Sunny Margate? I heard they were replaced by FEU players so that they would be given exposure in the PBL.

What's the final schedule of game days? Shall it be Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays? I hope most games would be played in either Pasig Sports or the proposed Cuneta Astrodome. Both venues are really accessible. San Juan Gym would be okay too.
  • roadwarriorroadwarrior Member PExer
i'm not sure but zablan still serems to be there. sinco, napa and margate have been replaced by raneses, barcellano and someone else whose name escapes me.

tue thu sat will remain pbl game days, with the exception of the opening.

due to scheduling conflicts with the primary venues, makati coliseum will host the first two playing days, then two days at san juan. first sked at pasig is april 6 while first sked at cuneta is supposedly april 17 and likely, all saturdays to follow.

Hmmm....don't you guys think there are too many guards in the Lee-Pipes roster? I counted 9 out of the 14 players (basically everyone except for Intal, Bugia, Kramer, Basco and Elmido) in the lineup either play point guard or offguard. I guess coach Sandy wants to play a run and gun offense. With the departures of Rich and Wes, a faster, more upbeat pace is probably most suited for the team.

By the way, with their inclusion in the PBL lineup, does that mean Del Rosario, Escalona, and Elmido are practically shoo-ins for the UAAP team?

Derek Ramsay (or is it Ramsey, I'm not sure) is the former MTV VJ and the current model of the Oxygen line of clothes. He's a hunk and a looker alright and it would be interesting to find out what he can do for Toyota Otis-Letran.

not really. arao is ineligible for the pbl team, and so is jobe. those are two guys who will be in the rotation next year. and they are less mobile than wes and rich.

shoo-ins? hmmm... iba ang swak sa team sa gagamitin in time... elmido might still not get as much time as he wants. as for macky, i hope he doesn't. badjie? sana i develop nalang nila si intal.

Well, my previous post about Derek was intended for those PBL fans who may not have any iota of information regarding Derek. What's wrong with that?

By the way, if I may recall from Derek's previous interviews, I think he went to college in the UK.

My prior insider info regarding the exclusion of Sinco, Zablan, and Margate was indeed correct.

What's the injury of James Razon?

I think there are many players in the lineup of Viva that play the 2 or 3 position namely Catli, Garcia, Rizada, Sison, and Co? Who do you think will be the priority in the rotation for the 2 or 3 positions?

What do you think of the chances of Viva with this lineup? By the way, what position does Neil Raneses from the UV Lancers play?
