Are talking about those blue tinted bulbs by Piaa, GE, Sylvania and other brands?
Or are you talking about Xenon lights like the BMW's have?

What are you experiences in using super white bulbs?
    Do they last?
Do they burn your stock bulb sockets?
    Are they really white?

    thanks

please... for the love of god, don't use these things- they're for people who can't shell out for a proper HID setup but still want to look cool...

they do nothing but blind incoming vehicles- hence, they're do nothing but make roads less safe.

Yup! And very useless when driving on a rainy night.

Yep, that's me. I'm not rich enough to buy HIDs so i have to settle for a cheaper alternative.

are you referring to 100++ watts superwhites or ALL superwhites in general? I know that there are 55W superwhites available. What is the relationship between light color and the lights' ability to blind others?

    thanks

no.. HID... forgot what they stand for. pero that's the lights being used on luxury vehicles.. they're not exactly cheap...

a kit for those will cost about 400 usd.

have you driven on the opposite lane ng a car having those $tupid white headlights?

HID ka na lang, if you desperately need brighter light.

HID = high intensity discharge. Otherwise known as "xenon" lights (vs. your stock halogen lamps).

If you can't afford HID, you can have your headlamps' beams checked for aim and alignment periodically.

yes. youre better off using the stock head lamps than getting those white lights,

Useless, especially in the bad weather. If you want an upgrade, changing your wirings to thicker ones, adding relays, and Bosch ceramic sockets are better... with this you can use the real 90/100W bulbs. :)

Theyre not that bad... I see 'em all the time!

I guess youre just not used to it...

I agree with Shun_Sakurai.... just get your aim and alignment reset.
  • i'm planning to install xenon lights to my car... is it worth it? :splat:

It's potentially a good upgrade if your halogen lamps aren't bright enough for you.

From what I've heard though, you ought to avoid Taiwan-made HIDs as they don't last that long. Also they don't take too well to frequent "flashing" from low- to high-beam as this can increase their risk of breakage.

Good brands are McCulloch and CEBT. The usual color temperature I see being used on aftermarket HIDs is 8000K, which is a bluish-white. Be warned that higher color temp. doesn't necessarily mean whiter, brighter light (stock HIDs on BMWs and Benzes are a mere 4300K and are white as day). Someone tried installing 12000K and got ripped off because the light was purplish.

I'm not really too keen on with those type of lamps. Partly due to the following reasons:
    *Very expensive
*A replacement (Narva) H4 bulb costs Php 150.00. How much does a replacement HID bulb cost?
*I travel to rural areas and parts availability is very important. What happens when I when I have a lamp failure somewhere in our barrio? The local auto supply has ample H4's.
*The delayed start up time makes it inconvenient to turn them off when sitting still in traffic (I turn the headlamps off because the reflection can cause undue eyestrain).
*They do not take to headlamp flashing very well.
*I sometimes drive with my lights on during daytime. I might just shorten the [expensive] bulb's life.

btw, what xenon lights are you referring to? pseudo xenon bulbs or the real xenon HID's? if its the real HID, then its definitely worth it. in fact its one of the upgrades that can increase your car's visibilty and make your car look good as well.

imo, there are good taiwan brands out there, like xenon-bulbs, helios. etc. most of them have 1 year warranty. my friend has one (helios) for more than a year, and its still working fine.

If you had the cash and it offers better lighting, why not? :) I have the same sentiments as OTEP though... one set of HID's will give my car around a decade worth of Philips a/w 90/100W bulbs with relay wiring upgrades to boot.

As aforementioned, use the tried and tested ones and just choose one with an ample K rating...
  • 5300K = white
    6000K = blue tinge/white on road
    8000K = blue light/blue on road
    10,000K = blue-purple light/blue-purple on road

The higher Kelvin you go, the dimmer the light is on the road. Lifetime of HID's are anywhere from 2500-3000 hours (a long time). Beware sa 6000k pataas kung old car mo ie 96 ACCORD with HID's, trust me it will be noticed by the cops. Cops aren't stupid. They know HID"s on older cars results in a nuisance to oncoming traffic. and its DANGEROUS. Ok lang sa kanila kung BMW/AUDI/BENZ yung car mo lol. Also I know several guys running 7000-8000K and it looks cool and all purplish blue, but light output sucks, especially in the rain.

    Beam correction is very important.

    BUT,

No matter what, HID's are by far 1000x better than any halogen light. I can't drive a car that doesnt have HID's on them. Its a difference between night and day.

Mas astig kung alam mo paano mag projector retrofit sa stock headlights mo. Here's a pic of a projector retrofit sa civic http://members.rogers.com/hidguy/5300kprojectors.JPG

here is a nice shot of 3 cars with 5300K, and one scooby with a 6000K kit:
