Here goes....
I was due to give birth to a baby girl on March 31, 3003. Two weeks before that, I was already having labor contractions that my OB said that I was due to give birth anytime. Two weeks later, I was STILL having contractions but still no baby. I was stuck at 1 cm dilation for the whole two weeks. After going in for an internal exam on my due date... (by that time, I don't remember how many IEs were administered na. Let me tell you, IEs are NOT FUN)... my husband and I decided to induce labor already because the baby was getting too big and I might not be able to have her delivered naturally.
(NOTE: Inducing labor is usually administered twice only for about 6 hours I think. Induced labor pains are more painful than regular labor pains.)
On April 3, after being induced twice and going from 1 to 2 cms to 1/2 cm dilated, it was decided that a C-section was needed na. I asked for an epidural only para at least, I was awake to see my baby when she came out. So after everything was said and done, we found out that she wasn't going to come out naturally because her head wasn't positioned correctly for a vaginal birth.
Sofia Denise was born at 2:20 pm on April 3 in St. Luke's Hospital. She weighed in at 8 lbs and 12 oz with a length of 20 1/2 inches and an Apgar score of 10.
My labor and delivery was pretty rough. I was in the hospital for about a week (I really hate hospitals) but it was all worth it.
You can check our her webpage and see what I'm talking about.0 -
1. when and where did labour hit you?
actually i was confined in the hospital 1 week before my due date due to pre-term labor. i was getting ready to go to work and i was feeling contractions and my tummy was really hard. they stopped my labor because the baby was still premature. they weren't sure if the lungs were fully developed so i had to take duvadillan. luckily i didn't dilate any further than 1 cm.
2. how did you know it was really labour?
i was feeling sharp pains and my tummy was getting hard. i called first my doctor to consult because i already started braxton hicks contractions as early as 6 mos. she was the one who advised me to go to st. luke's
3. when and how did you go to the hospital?
my husband accompanied me to the hospital at the advice of my doctor.
4. other specifics about birth you would like to share,
like did you have anesthesia, how long was labour, anything funny happened during the mad rush, etc
I had the twilight method of giving birth. I was under anaesthesia so I was only semi-conscious. I had no recollection of actually giving birth to my baby. I only got to see here the afternoon i gave birth.
My labor was around 14 hours w/o anaesthesia because they couldn't give me any until i'm around 4cm.
Funny thing was they asked my husband if he had a camera so the hospital staff could take pics of the delivery. They only got to take 1 picture because the camera was already low batt..
That's not where my story ends..
Two weeks after I gave birth, i got confined again at st. luke's for post-partum hemorrhage. I was bleeding profusely and they discovered that my uterus had a unique shape so they had to give me medicine so all the remaining blood will come out.
All of the staff at the HRPU of St. Luke's already knew me.. even the admissions staff.. because in a span of 1 month i was there 3 times..
hope this helps0 -
like mommy chiqui, i also had a c-section. before i had my operation, I didn't have any signs of labor coming soon, even though i was very near my due date (which was august 3, 2003). i didn't worry then since many said that if it's a first pregnancy, delivery could be either 2 weeks earlier or 2 weeks later than the due date.
but on august 1, i noticed that my baby didn't quite move as much and the next day, i totally didn't feel her move! i was very worried then since i have read that there should be at least 10 movements in an hour (or day?), esp when delivery is near. I contacted my ob and she advised me to go to the hospital for an emergency check-up.
then, it was found that my baby had fetal distress. so, my ob didn't waste any time and she cut me open. like mommy chiqui's sofia, my little alexandra's head wasn't positioned for a normal birth. instead it was her ear that was directed to the cervix.
so there! post-op recovery wasn't easy but everything went well for me.0 -

my tita gave birth last January 2004. she had a "bloody show" at around 17h30 while still in office and went with her husband to the hospital at around midnight that same night kasi intense na yung contractions. They were timing it naman and it was every 10-15 minutes. They were sent back home kasi it was still too early pero bumalik sila ulit ng 5h30 ng madaling araw kasi masakit na daw talaga.
She was only 7cm dilated when the doctors decided to have a ceasarian birth at 11am. So, total, 18 hours since nag start yung first contractions niya, tsaka siya nag give birth. The baby boy was not big naman, 2.3 kgs lang.
I'ver read na for first time mothers (like my tita) it really takes a long time (sometimes more than 24 hours from beginning to pushing time) and lots of patience before fully dilated ka na and ready to push. They gave her reasons kung bakit 7cm "pa lang" ang tita ko (they said the cord is around the baby's neck) and why ceasarian is necessary. I talked with my midwife about this and here is what she said:
1. They should have waited a bit more, considering 7cm na ang tita ko. konti na lang daw hintay yon.
2. Of course it depends on the capacity of the mom pero a baby so small (2.3 kg) can very easily be delivered normally
3. The cord around the neck has nothing to do with her dilation. Babies have it all the time. UNLESS, the cord was extremely short or is around the baby's neck 3x (both are extremely rare), then talagang it will affect its descend
4. Of course, if you offer a mom who is in labour a quick way to get out of her predicament, kakagat yon. Especially if they are not well informed of the facts (my tita didnt do her research).
5. The whole labour process itseld is good for the baby (as long as the baby is not in distress) kasi it prepares him for the outside world. (I think some hormones are released but im not sure).
I think I should tell also na the (private) hospital (in Baguio) doesnt have this cord around the mom's tummy that measures baby's heartbeat so the doctors would know if baby is still doing good or is already stressed. So, they are unaware kung ok pa ang baby and they could have waited a while.
For me, wala namang kaso if ceasarian or normal delivery. Dapat lang, talagang necessary ang ceasarian before doctors suggest it. Sabagay, kung sinuggest ng doctor na ceasarian tapos umayaw ka kasi gusto mong maghintay, pababayaan ka kaya to suffer for a while sa inis kasi you dont "believe" them?
(on the contrary, how would you know if baby is doing still good in the tummy if the doctors themselves dont ?)
Minsan kasi money motivated rin yon. The difference in the bill? normal= 10T and ceasarian= 35T. basic pa lang yon, wala pa yung hospital stay, doctors fees, medicaments etc.0 -
wow! nice thread.
a lot of moms (especially new ones, like me) love talking about their birth experiences. Here's mine:
I was due on the 24th of Nov.
A week before that, nagpa-check up ako. 70% effaced na daw ako. My OB told me to walk. So that's what I did the whole week. The 24th comes around, and still no labor pains! I mean, I was having contractions, pero painless ones. So Braxton Hicks lang yon.
On the 24th, I was scheduled for a check-up. So go ako. No progress. 70% effaced pa rin. My OB told me to come back after 1 week, and magdala na daw ako ng mga gamit. If hindi ako manganak within the week, induce na niya ko.
I said ok. But I asked if I could get an ultrasound. Kasi I want to see if my baby is doing alright. Bakit di siya bumababa?
Anyway, buti nalang I asked for an ultrasound. Kasi my baby wasn't doing too good.
She said I had very good maternal instinct. If we had waited, it would have possibly resulted to fetal death. I was terrified.
She told me she would induce me. Ok pa naman daw si baby. That was 1pm. Pero pag 6pm daw at mukhang hindi nag-p-progress ang labor, she would open me up.
Anyway, I waited from 1-6. The doctors kept telling me to sleep. Pero I couldn't noh. So nag-chikahan nalang kme nung doctors and nurses.
At 6pm, I was only 4cm dilated despite the medicine being given to me to induce labor. So doc said she's open me up. Kasi baby wasn't doing too well. Tamlay na.
I requested for a bikini cut. Buti nalang, I did.
Ayon, I was wheeled in sa Delivery Room. I was given something to make me feel a bit woozy. Anesthesia was just Spinal. They had to sedate me twice. Kasi one shot wasn't strong enough. Awake pa rin ako (but not feeling anything). I felt sobrang nasusuka though. sabi nila effect yon ng anesthesia. Anyway, when I saw my baby boy, nawala lahat ng hilo at pagod.
At 7:20p.m., I fell in love with my baby boy.He weighed 6 lbs 9 oz, and was 49 cm long. I was still groggy when they showed him to me.
After that recovery room na for 2 hours. Then up to my room na. The following day at 7pm rin, roomed-in na si baby.
I'm very thankful I followed my "kutob" to have an ultrasound. If hindi, baka kung ano pa nangyari.
Goodluck with your delivery. Kayang kaya 'yan!0 -
ako ako share ko saken. my due date was supposed to be december 16. pero sabi nila dba d naman nasusunod yung due date kase its either before or after two weeks from your original due date daw. so, dumaan yung dec16 and wala pako nararamdamang contractions kaya i was thinking na baka after two weeks pa. dec26 i started to feel the contractions. after having breakfast sumakit puson ko d ako mapakali yung prang magkakaperiod ka. buti nlang andun ate ko at sabi na yun na daw yun pati yung feeling na para kang mag pu-poopoo. at that time i was in my parent's hauz so i have to call my husband and tell him na sunduin nako kase mukhang manganganak nako.
i called up my OB, sabi nya observe ko lang daw muna at ako daw mag decide kung punta nako hospital. sa pkiramdam ko wala pa cguro kya i decided na maghintay na muna although me blood na lumalabas. dec27 came, yung madaling araw halos d ako nakatulog kase super sakit na as in bumibilis yung interval ng contractions. and then, lunch time at exactly 12pm asa hospital na kame sabi ng mga OB dun wala pa daw e super sakit na. at 4pm dumating OB ko IE nya ko at 4cm na daw and sabi nya this is the day so medyo kinabahan nako kase 1st time. pero ni relax ko lang yung sarili ko.
to make it short, until 9pm ako nagle-labour pero by that time na epidural nako. at 10-10pm my baby came out na haaayyy natapos din super saya. dapat nga daw ten-ten nickname ng baby ko hehehe.. ngayon hayun super laki na nya.
and thats my story0 -
gave birth twice already, with 5 years gap. so parang nanganay ako sa 2nd. but all worth it.
1st baby - due date was oct 5, pero dahil panganay, i expected that there will be additional 2 weeks from due date.
oct 11, i had a date with hubby pa kasi i had a sudden craving for ice cream, aside from birthday niya on the next day. 6am, i woke up because i had to pee, then there were blood stains on my underwear. so i took a shower, cut my nails pa and prepared myself. noong tapos na ako, saka ko lang ginising si hubby.told him, ligo ka na,baka manganganak na ako. from the time i woke up till the time hubby finished preparing himself, i was already timing my contractions (based sa mga books na nababasa natin, diba). there was 15 mins interval. so feeling ko, matagal pa siguro (aside from in denial ako, kakatakot sa 1st time moms). sabi ko, simba muna tayo. pagtapos namin magsimba, sabi ko kain muna tayo ha, bago tayo pumunta sa hospital. kumain pa kami noon. mga 10am saka lang kami pumunta sa hospital. i went to the deliver room where i.e. was done. i think i was 3 cm that time and got stuck there!
born at 10:20pm on october 12, my baby girl had the same birthday as her dad!0 -
2nd baby was kinda different naman. dahil gusto ko kasama si hubby sa delivery room, nag enrol naman kami sa lamaze class. may 16 naman due date ko noon. may 1, i was already 1 cm dilated, hangang may 20, 1 cm pa din ako!
i was induced. a pill was inserted inside my vagina kasi takot ng ob ko (nagpalit ako ng ob, sungit kasi noong 1st) baka ma distress na iyong bata kasi medyo overdue na ako. this was done sa clinic lang nya then i went home. walang effect. bumalik ako ulit ng late afternoon and another pill was inserted again. went home ulit. noong mga 9pm, nag starbucks pa kami (iyong panganay ko was at my mom's house). on the way home, told my hubby to go to sleep na kasi baka bukas manganak na ako. before going to sleep, i decided to pee. ayun na naman blood stains. sabi ko again sa hubby, handa ka na. alis na tayo maya konti.
mga 11pm i was already in the labor room. wala naman, observe, i.e, etc. hangang nakatulog ako ulit. mga 2pm nagising ako kasi sakit tyan ko, as in namimilipit na ako. ie ulit, 5cm pa lang. diosme, sabi ko ms, pa epidural na ako, ang sakit talaga (lalo na comparing it to my 1st baby) e iyong bagong doc ko, advocate ata ng epidural (she actually encouraged it). iyon ngang nagtransfer sa akin from the bed to the bed sa delivery room, nahawakan ko ng sobrang diin, feeling ko, bumaon iyong kuko ko. kawawa naman.
natakot nga iyong anaesthecsologist (?) kasi doon sa 1st saksak nya, walang effect, i must have been wincing in pain, kasi i can hear them say na wala atang effect, look at her face. tapos, lagay sila ulit. medyo nag subside na iyong pain. tinarayan ko pa nga. when they i asked me how i feel a few seconds after the 2nd shot of anaesthesia, sabi ko, teka lang naman. hehe.
everything went well after that. i was awake the whole time. btw, despite the lamaze class, hubby wasn't allowed inside na kasi epidural na daw ako. the ob was kind enough to arrange for a mirror para makita ko paglabas ng baby ko.(pinahingi ko pa nga iyong eye glasses ko sa labas eh.) and i saw him came out. grabe, miracle talaga noh?amazing!
gave birth at around 4am. this time, i saw how they cleaned the baby and even had my picture taken with him (while he was still covered with those yellow things).
recovery was faster this time. i was in my room at 7.30am. tapos went to the nursery r0om at 8.30am, naka wheelchair pa ako noon. pagdating ng 11am, punta ako ulit and i was walking na. next day, out of the hospital na ako. unlike sa 1st baby, kahit na normal, stayed at the hospital for 3 days.
haba noh. sana you'll get some pointers kahit paano. my piece of advice lang, stay calm and don't panic. pray and thank God for the miracle of life.0 -
oh! here's a tip pala.... just in case ma-CS ka, don't be afraid to stand and walk.
it's gonna hurt. and it's gonna be really scary. the things i took for granted like peeing, standing, sitting, and just turning in the bed, super hard to do after a CS. feeling mo, bubuka yung tahi... hayyy.. pero kailangan pilitin mag-walk..kung hindi...matagal ang recovery.
also, drink lots of fluids para makaka-wee right away. if not kasi, ibabalik yung catheter. ouch!0 -
hi guys! thanks for the advise! this morning i felt some contractions, naku natakot talaga ako.
the reason na natakot ako is not because of the pain, its because aalis si hubby for an out of town business trip today.
so ayun, bawal na akong mag strenous activity (according to husband). im actually writing this as im on the bed.
btw, im 35weeks+2 days na0 -
wow! lapit na! super!!!
i remember when I was pregnant before. I was out shopping with my mom. A saleslady approached me and asked me kelan ako due. Sabi ko, anytime. Naiinip na nga ako. Sabi niya, the best way daw na madaliin ang panganganak is to clean the c.r. as in scrub the floors. hahaha.
goodluck on ur delivery!0 -
1. when and where did labour hit you?
2. how did you know it was really labour?
when we got home, i went to the bathroom to pee..ayun, may spotting na ko. streak lang naman ng blood pero hindi pa sumasagi sa isip ko na manganganak na ko. my doctor told me na kapag nag-spotting ako, punta na agad sa hospital. so i told my hubby kaya ayun nataranta...punta na kami sa hospital tapos in-admit muna ko to check if i was dilating na. and i was.
3. when and how did you go to the hospital?
4. other specifics about birth you would like to share,
like did you have anesthesia, how long was labour, anything funny happened during the mad rush, etc
ayun, tinanong ako if gusto ko ng epidural. sabi ko no. nung 7 cm na, humingi ako ng pain reliever. parang nde naman gumagana. so i asked for more eh ayaw na ko bigyan kasi 10cm na ko. i was soooo ready to push. sabi ba naman eh wag daw muna! so i waited...and waited. then finally, sabi nila if ready na ko. naturally i said yes at wala na kong pakialam dahil i just want it over. so after 5 hours of labor and a few pushes, she pops out. grabe, i felt so relieved. when they put her sa chest ko, i saw her face and hinding-hindi ko malilimutan ung face ng anak ko kahit magkapalit-palit pa mga babies dun. tinandaan ko kasi hehehe but anyway walang nursery ung hospital kasi ung mga baby tinatabi nila sa mommy nila which is really good. tapos ung hubby ko, natakot ata kasi andun sa sulok ng room (solo ko ung room with bathroom, tv, ref saka very nice view kasi mataas ung building)sa tabi ng bintana. nde daw natingin saken kasi natatakot. inalok sya nung doctor if gusto nya sya pumutol ng cord ng baby..umayaw sya. tawa nga ako ng tawa kasi namumutla. hehehe...0 -
And I was praying so hard n umikot talaga si baby para normal delivery ako.) pinagalitan p ko ng OB ko kse gustong-gusto nya n akong i-CS para raw mawala n ang manas ko. so inisked nya ulit ako for another check-up on jan 10.

Labor? Ano ba feeling nun?
I was on my 37th week, a few days after Christmas. I took the day off from work because I was scheduled for an OB check-up. I live in Las Pinas and my OB's clinic is in Sta. Mesa. I just changed my OB so that was the first time I was seeing her. Kakahiya nga kasi malapit nako manganak. It was 11am and she had to do an internal exam. She was telling me like "Jem, may dugo ka lang makikita dito, blah, bah, blah... teka 3cms ka na ah. Manganganak ka na. See me at Manila Doctors tonight at 6pm. Bring your things na." I was shocked because I was not yet due and that I didn't feel any pain or contractions (although on Christmas Eve I was breathing quite heavily and matigas tyan ko).
So I went home, still contemplating if I'd take a cab, fx or bus. Hehe, syempre nag cab nako. Ba't ko pa ba inisip yun (mura kasi bus). I started calling my dad, hubby, my boss. The taxi driver heard that manganganak nako so parang nagmadali. My aunt was waiting for me at Las Pinas and waited for me to eat and get dressed. Super traffic on the way to Madocs and I can sense that my aunt is starting to panic. Hehe. Deadma parin ako. I even checked my self in at the hospital and wrote on some forms. They wheeled me to the delivery room and I waited there for my OB, and for hubby who was relieved from duty at another hospital so he can go see me.
I started having contractions at midnight and gave birth only 45 minutes after that. I recently lost my old cellphone in Alabang (actually nadukutan ako) so hubby was like whispering to me at the delivery room: "Kelangan normal birth para yung sobrang pera pambili ng cellphone mo."
I love sharing my story to expectant mothers na sobrang takot manganak. Mine was such a funny and wonderful experience. Sana ganito ulit sa susunod ko.0 -
1. when and where did labour hit you?
1: I was at the doctor's office 5 cm dilated. That was 10 in the morning. I went to the hospital at 7 pm when contractions started being closely spaced, and delivered at 12 mn.
2: Just broke my water bag at 4 in the morning. Nakakainis kasi nag-clean up pa ako bago pumuntang hospital. Hassle.
2. how did you know it was really labour?
1: Doctor told me he'll see me at the hospital in a few hours.
2: Broke my water bag. That a big sign. Both kids I was 2-3 weeks early.
3. when and how did you go to the hospital?
1: Reggie drove me.
2: Reggie drove me. And he complained because I went in labor after the long weekend. Hindi pa daw umabot.
4. other specifics about birth you would like to share,
like did you have anesthesia, how long was labour, anything funny happened during the mad rush, etc
1: I was on demerol to take the edge off. My nurse was stopping me to push because she said I didn't want to deliver without the doctor there. Smooth.
2: Had an epidural. It progressed fast, it was a 5 hour labor, OK for me but bad for Izzy. Her heart rate dropped and the monitor started beeping. They had me sign a consent for caesarian and I delivered at the O.R. vaginal. My prayers have been answered. The meds they used to help Izzy had a bad effect on me, I was shaking. Eto pa hindi ko nga naramdamang umiire ako so the nurse, my OB, and the anesthesiologist had to help me push the baby out. Izzy came out fine except she has slight heart murmur. Dunno if that was because of the delivery or because she just had it. She was also smaller than Memphis. 5 lbs lang noon pero maton naman ngayon.0 -

You can check our her webpage and see what I'm talking about.
HAPPY BDAY! sofia denise!0
