Using Sta. Lucia Realty as staging ground

Limpot, Seigle trade places

By Joel Orellana, Reporter (Manila Times)

GINEBRA and Purefoods used Sta. Lucia Realty as a staging ground to swap their key big men Monday, with Jun Limpot ending up with the Hotdogs and Andy Seigle with the Gin Kings.

Under league rules, sister teams are not allowed to exchange players directly, but both ballclubs found a way to work around that with the Realtors as willing accomplices.

So Ginebra traded Limpot to Sta. Lucia—his original team when entered the league in 1993—in exchange for the Realtors’ second round pick in the 2004 Draft.

The Realtors, already loaded up front with maintstays Marlou Aquino and Dennis Espino, then dealt Limpot to Purefoods in exchange for Seigle, the 1998 Rookie of the Year, who was immediately swapped to Ginebra in exchange for the second round pick it earlier gave the Gin Kings.

Offhand, Purefoods appears to have benefited from the trade in acquiring Limpot since it can no longer rely too much on the offense of veteran Alvin Patrimonio, who has been relegated to reliever status.

The Kings, on the other hand, found a workhorse inside the shaded lane in the 6-foot-1010 Seigle to complement Eric Menk, the Fil-Am’s teammate in the RP team that competed in 2002 Busan Asian Games.

The only question mark against Seigle, who will also play for his third team like Limpot, is his health, having sat out most of last season with a recurring back injury.

In other developments, point guard Jason Webb of Sta. Lucia Realty decided to retire due to a persistent injury and was elevated to the coaching staff of the Realtors.

Also, Fil-American Jayjay Helter-brand will be making a comeback this season with the Gin Kings very eager to sign him up.

Shell is reportedly placing Dale Singson and Christian Calaguio on the trading block in search for a quality big man, making the selection of James Yap as its overall top pick a sound one.

    And the PBA plot thickens.

With longer seasons coming up it would be crucial for Ginebra to be assured of a healthy Seigle, anything less would then be a disappointment for a trade that is essentially a huge gamble.

The press reports gave no details of the trade. With the history of injuries on Seigle, it's safe to assume Ginebra has an "escape clause" on this one. Or at least a future draft pick to go with Seigle.

Or, unless they haven't learned their lesson when they traded draft pick- Cariaso to Alaska in exchange for Solomon. Only later to find out that Solomon had an eye injury that virtually makes him blind as a player.

THE PBA IS A TRULY A SMC LEAGUE

the KUME if he is not a PUPPY should THROW OUT the league
clearly SLR did not do anything except act as go between
this is a CIRCUMVENTION of the rule that sister teams should not trade for each other
    why CIRCUMVENTION
because at the end SLR did not gain or lose a player
actually NO PLAYER from SLR moved

in short this is SIMPLY a DIRECT TRADE

who can stop the SMC teams from doing this from hereon

this trade is good. because limpot is such a ballhog which just limits the scoring potential of menk and adducul, who are both team players. limpot does not know how to pass the ball, though he showed signs that he can adapt to a team game, remains slow on swinging the ball to the other side of the floor.

adducul will be elevated to the starting line-up. a healthy seigle can help ginebra, but his minutes will likely be eaten by a much improved crisano. this will be a good ginebra team if and only if caguioa forgets his ballhog ways.

just wondering, why did the SLR help the two teams? it didn't look as if they gained anything.

For all of Andy Siegle's faults, height is still might, and a mobile 6-9 albeit with recurring injuries is still preferrable to center by committee of 6-6 guys. Ginebra is hoping Andy's injury won't recur and the barangay crowd will light a fire in his belly. Slotmen in the league are getting bigger and bigger and 6-6 guys are now more preferrable as power forwards. It's Purefoods who seems to have taken a slight hit upfront, and I think they're keeping their fingers crossed finesse-playing Kerby and 6-6 Billy Mamaril will be sufficient to man the paint.

I think teams now feel more obliged to build up to keep up with TnT's recent acquisitions.

it is because sister teams cannot trade players that's whu they used sta lucia as the third party eventhough they did not get any player in return they got draft picks from purefoods or ginebra

Lugi naman ang Ginebra. Limpot is an offensive threat and is a crowd favorite. Si Seigle, mabagal na, palaging injured, gapiso pa yung talon. At least si Limpot shooter na, si Seigle ano pa kaya niya gawin? And how can he fit into Ginebra's run-and-gun style? Yung mga kakampi niya nakababa na ng court, siya di pa nakakarating sa gitna.
