[MERGED] Sore Throat

it started 3 or 4 weeks ago... nagka soar throat ako pero madalas naman yun nangyayari so pinabayaan ko lang. after 2 days namamaos na ako, hirap magsalita kse masakit sa throat. pinainom ako ng dad ko ng chinese na gamot, yun "sea coconut" tapos may strepsils pa, pero the next day ganon parin... continuous ako sa "medicine" intake, tapos after a few days medyo nawala na... pero bumalik ulit after a days... next na nangyari, namamaos ako pero minsan kumakati yun throat so i have to cough para mawala yun kati. pinainom ako ng calamansi juice (no sugar), ginger ale, royal tru orange with raw scrambled eggs (ugh!), tapos gamot, sinecod forte... pero wala parin nangyari... makati parin throat ko chaka namamaos parin... ngayon nawawala voice ko kse sobrang mahirap magsalita... masakit (kaya nga tahimik na ako ngayon), tapos sinisipon narin... kanina lang pinainom ako ng sinecod forte chaka yun royal tru orange concoction... anyways, hde kaya meron na akong throat infection (if there's such thing as that...)? oo nga pala... pinaka masakit tuwing gabi (before i sleep) chaka sa umaga (pagka gising), pinaka walang boses din ako that time... what should i do? should i go to a doctor and have a check up?

ako rin. it just started this morning. last night, i drank 5 glasses of red wine...tapos sa umaga ayun na...ang sakit na ng throat ko. paos pa. i desperately need my voice back! it has to be in a tip-top condition by tuesday for our performance sa voice for theater class ko (of all classes!)! is there any medication that would eliminate sore throat fast? aside from the kalamansi option?

Kulit: Normally, sore throats are treated with anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin or ibuprofen, lozenges like Strepsils, gargles like Bactidol, salt water gargles, and voice rest. However, 3-4 weeks for sore throat is a little too long already. The home remedies won't work, while butamirate citrate (Sinecod forte) is not for sore throat--it's only for cough suppression. Go to your family doctor or to an ENT, you may already need to be started on antibiotics for that.

dee-dee: Strict voice rest for the weekend, gargle with salt water if it's painful, Strepsils lozenges, Orudis EC 1 tablet 2x a day after meals, and eating "soft" food will most probably make it better in a few days. There is no magic medication that will help it go away fast.

may performance din kami ng theatre on tuesday... i desperately need my voice back kse may line ako chaka kailangan ko ng makalas na boses.

Doc Ira, mas ok na ngayon... hde na masyadong masakit throat ko. pero may ubo sipon ako kaya siguro medyo dry ang feeling ng throat ko ngayon.

sabi sa aking ng friend ko huwag raw akong mag strepsils and bisolvon, kse nakakagasgas raw siya ng throat... is that true?

ayun! kanikanina lang pinainom ako ng mom ko ng tea (pinakulong balat ng ma-chang).

sige, inom muna ako ng coritussal.

Bisolvon and Strepsils will not cause any of that problem your friend mentioned. Take them if you feel you need to. For your throat dryness, you can do steam inhalation (just boil some water, then inhale the steam rising from it for about 10-15 minutes)--it will make you feel better.

I usually take Pei Pa Koa, salabat, and gargle w/warm H2O and salt solution. If my sore throat's really bad I take "Diflam" or "Orofar". Then I drink LOTS of water - tap water or yung medyo lukewarm. Then I SLEEP to regain my voice. After that, ready to sing na ulit ako.

Maghiwa ka ng Luya (ginger), balatan mo ha! den gawin mong kendi.....medyo mapait pero tiisin mo lang, syempre sipsipin mo ung katas nya....tapos syempre tapon mo na pag ala ng lasa...Oki????

bukod sa antibiotics, gurgle with salt water, ginagawa ko rin yan....effective sakin sguro effective din sayo...pareho lang naman tayong tao diba???

im having this sorethroat for the past 4 days and it only appears every night. im just wondering why im having sorethroat only at night.????
i already stop eating sweets and drinking cold water. is there something else i can do to relieve my throat?
or is it serious?

I suggest you try gargling Aloe Activator. its an aloe vera based topical solution but can also be taken orally.If you have more questions about the aloe activator (This is blatant advertising. Good day Sophia. Have you went to a doctor to have your throat checked? If not, I recommend you see a ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialist or a otolaryngologist. I'm sure they would be well equipped to relieve you of your sour throat.

I'm very prone to getting sore throats and it really irritates me. What are the definitive steps to cure sore throats?

I have searched the web a bit and learned that bacteria and viruses cause sore throats. Antibiotics can kill bacteria but not viruses AFAIK. So how do I know what's causing my sore throat and what should I do now? I have sore throat again and getting too cranky again... :rolleyes:

Rule of thumb is if it's acute and lasts only a few days, it's viral. If it's longer, then it's bacterial, but this is certainly not all-encompassing. The best way to know and to treat it is to see a doctor who can examine you and who can request the proper lab tests.

this is a simple home remedy that I take whenever I feel the first signs of sore throat--hot tea. I drink LOTS of hot tea (green) and that is usually all I need. In fact now that I think about it, green tea is sort of my panacea for common ills such as fever and colds. LOTS of it. I don't really like to take antibiotics that much. It's not really nice daw to keep on taking it.

While it's not really nice to keep on taking it if you don't really need it, I think ziggyboy may need some antibiotics, and I don't see anything wrong with that if used properly. It's the injudicious use of antibiotics by people who don't go to doctors that isn't good.

Now my sore throat turned to colds and cough with plegm. And now I lost my voice!!! What happened to me???? I went drinking tuesday and got too drunk. After that I was slowly losing my voice. Is alcohol bad for sore throats???? Now it's Chrstmas day ang my voice sounds like I've been shouting all night last night!! HELP!!!!

ziggyboy, we have exactly the same problem!!! I also had a drinking spree last Tuesday. I have a horrible voice right now and I have coughs with phlegm for more than a week. Unfortunately, I don't have the "talent" to spit out phlegm. Di na ako umabot ng noche buena at nahiga na lang ako sa sama ng pakiramdam. Benadryl yung iniinom ko and parang di effective

I think it's high time for you guys to consult a doctor. Alcohol may dehydrate your throat and make your situation even worse.

Ako din may sore throat for almost one week na and two days ago parang nagkaroon na ng bukol sa lower part ng right ear ko.

I'm still suffering from coughs with phlegm. Pinagbantaan na ako ng lola ko na papainumin niya ako ng okra tea (aside from the calamansi treatment) pag di pa ako gumaling. Hirap kasi ako mag-spit ng phlegm
