Friedrich Nietzsche is not an atheist!

For those of you who thinks that this guy is an atheist, he is not... misinterpreted lang po siya... ok? give a guy a break, when he said that "God is dead" he didnt mean the Christian God or any other god as some text book says. damn those writers! what he meant was the revaluation of moral values. he did not attack the existence of GOD! he didnt bother to do it anyway so why judge the guy? he is a transtheist... meaning, his philosophy is beyond the question of the existence of God. :) please dont judge the guy please.

well, i guess that pretty much proves that he is an atheist. he said that god is dead because we have no need for the idea of GOD anymore, that society has finally matured enough to shed the idea of god. thus the murder of god ensued.
and by the way, who ever said that being an atheist is bad?
  • Hyperion
    Hyperion sui generis
Some famous quotations from Friedrich Nietzsche ...

"Man is more ape than many of the apes."
    "Woman was God’s second mistake."
"The last Christian died on the cross."
"Faith: not wanting to know what is true."
"Morality is the herd-instinct in the individual."
"In heaven all the interesting people are missing."
"I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time."
"Which is it, is man one of God’s blunders or is God one of man’s?"
"There is not enough religion in the world to destroy the world’s religions."
"The Christian resolution to find the world ugly and bad has made the world ugly and bad."
"In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point."
"Man is the cruelest animal. At tragedies, bullfights, and crucifixions he has so far felt best on earth; and when he invented hell for himself, behold, that was his very heaven."

    Nuff said ... :D
  • from Hyperion's quotations on Nietzsche it seems that Nietzsche is referring to the Christian God. maybe he means that the Christian God is dead, but he is still open to another form of god.
  • religion's god is dead, it no longer serves its purpose.

you mean not only the God of the Christian Religion but also the supreme being of the other religions?

if that is so then do you feel
1.that the religions you are talking about have explained god wrongly, and people are beginning to realize the mistake
    2. or is it because humans now have become so decadent that they can't appreciate the correct version of god

Nietzsche must have meant the "God" that was commonly believed during his time.

i was referring to Nietzsche's statement. anyway, we can add 3. that man has generally outgrown the religious stage and is now able to find meaning, or create meaning on his own without the need for God or religion. after all, that's what the superman is for - a new deity.

    it's like this...from what i've read...

christianity says that lying is forbidden
we must seek the truth in order to avoid lying
    now when science examines reality
    it upsets religious dogmas
and then we have to give up those dogmas
so when religion opposes scientific truth
religion must be done away with

    so does this mean....
God told us not to lie
so we needed to tell the truth and prove it
we found out that what religion taught us are inconsistent based on reality
    therefore religion is lying
    religion is killing God
    God is committing suicide?

    so God is dead!

maybe what nietzsche is trying to tell is that christianity is killing God...?

    so we must avoid christianity?

    whew

  • Didnt Nietzsche used religion to 'critic' culture? in a way, he was criticizing the degregation of our cultural norms? From adoring beauty, to glorifying ugliness???

    Nietzsche was a hard read.

Birth of Tragedy. Apollonian/Dionysian. The story of genesis before the story in Genesis. What Nietzsche wanted was to get back the progress interrupted when Christianity substituted rationalization for Reality.
