Hey guys, I'm planning to buy a brand new car in the 1.6L price range (P550,000 - P800,000). What would you recommend?

& make sure it'll last long.
its an big investment after all.0 -
How long do you plan to keep the car? Most cars will go five years easily. Of course nothing is perfect so do expect some things to break during its stay with you. So long as you know how to fix it or who to turn to to get it fixed, you will have a great motoring experience.0

Lynx RS. 2.0 power with a sticker price below 800k, nice sports accessories too0

Hmm... Which car do you think is best to buy? The 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer, Toyota Corolla Altis, or Nissan Sentra Exalta? We're planning of buying a new car but we're confused of which one to buy... Gusto sana namin Nissan Exalta, maganda lahat saka advanced yung features niya especially the interior eh ang kaso 2001 or 2002 pa yata lumabas ang model na yun, pag yun ang binili namin eh baka maglabas ng bagong model next year or few months from now.

If you like the Sentra, don't worry about any upcoming new model just yet. Medyo matagal pa yun. Usually naman lalabas na sa foreign magazines or internet ang spyshots a year or two before the actual launch so malalaman mo nang patapos na ang life ng isang model.
A lot of people don't like Mitsubishi kasi low quality daw. Pero good experience naman ako sa kanila. More than 5 na ata ang naging Mitsubishi namin and may dalawa kami ngayon. The good thing about them is mura ang parts and services (wag lang sa casa). Almost at par with Toyota sa pagkamura pero hindi as common on the road.0 -

uhmmm... so which car will you recommend? lancer, altis or sentra? alin ang da best overall? ^_^0 -
Among the choices I would take the Sentra or a Lynx RS (although it does have a 2.0L engine) among the subcompacts. But that is subject to my personal biases and opinion. You may have a different view of things.
Mahirap magsabi kung alin ang best overall as there is no such thing. They all have their pros and cons. I guess its a matter of finding one that will fit your needs.
If I had that much money, I'd just buy myself a 4x2 diesel pick up truck. The diesels are more economical (esp in the long run) and trucks are way more useful than sedans.0 -

hmmm... you have the point about choosing the right car, but there are still a lot of rumors about nissan sentra exalta like the low resale value, poor performance etc... that's why we keep on asking other people especially the exalta owners if they're all true... btw, we've just seen the ford lynx ghia 1.6 and the toyota altis and i should say that the specs are good... my dad finds the altis to his liking...^_^0 -
Given the choices and criteria, i'd go with either a Corolla or Exalta. We have a 2 year old Exalta Grandeur and i can say that its performance (in a/t form) is better than the Corolla and it also beat the Civic a/t in the acceleration tests of C! Magazine. Just clean the MAF (Mass Air FLow) Sensor every 10,000km and the performance will remain very good. Handling can use some improvement though since its suspension is tuned pretty soft.
The reasos(s) why i choose the Corolla or Sentra at the 500K to 800K range is because they are both very reliable (Corolla beats the Sentra in overall solidity though) and they offer extras like ABS and Airbags in the case of the Corolla 1.6E and Sentra 1.6 GS/Superio. The Civic Vti does not AFAIK.0 -
I don't really mind buying cars with low resale value since I almost always get pre-owned ones. So a low resale is actually good for me. Besides, I choose cars because I like them, not because I'm gonna make money out of them. Cars will almost always be a losing investment (unless its a VERY special model, has historical value or is very old).
Performance-wise, I don't know how a Sentra performs poorly. It will certainly run rings around my Pajero and has proven to be a very reliable car for us (my brother drives a Sentra B14).
Just do your homework and find one that will fit your needs. Be it a Kia, Toyota, Daewoo or whatever.0
