Okay, it is an extra cost to get your car registered. At least, in California it is only required every 2 years.

Is it required in the Phils.? If not, I think it should be.

It is a requirement here in the Philippines... every year that a car is registered in fact. And yes, I agree that it is a necessity in any automotive country, given that it's followed to the letter of course. Unfortunately here in the Phils, you can see that such is not the case. :|

That smoke belching law has been in effect for a good 2 years now but you can still see jeeps, buses and other puvs belching black smoke day in and day out... only way I can see that those cars get their registration is through bribes... :(

It seems like here in the Phils... the only thing that new laws bring is new venues for corruption. :(

It has been required by law for the vehicle's yearly registration but the main problem we have is that "maraming lusot". Owners who's cars fail can bribe their way or some cars can be easily adjusted for the test then returned to normal afterwards.

heard from another forum na dapat nga daw libre ang smoke-emmision testing eh. kasi covered na daw sya sa recent price increase ng car registration. pansin nyo siguro daming nagsulputang vehicle emission testing centers private o government owned. syempre bagong "kurakot" source eh.

It's already a requirement in Pinas. Last time I registered my ol' L200 (diesel pa man din) back in 1998 (before ipamana ko sa kapatid ko), I had a hard time (and money spent) but passed the requirements. MMDA hanging around Balintawak (just as you come in from the North Expressway) loves flagging down vehicles with diesel engines. To my luck, I was never flagged down even once. Just don't step on the accelerator too much. :D

Install the new Alegre Exhaust Gas Oxidizer (EGO) in the mufflers of your vehicles and smoke and other emissions will be things of the past. Guaranteed to save on fuel (up to 25%) and increase engine power by 5%- 8%!. This anti-smoke belching device works on the principle of VENTURI EFFECT (used in the designs of rockets) and invented by a Filipino, Mr. Adolfo Alegre.

Balita ko jeepney drivers pour kerosene into their fuel tanks just before taking an emission test. Apparently the kerosene gives off a "cleaner" exhaust - after which, balik na naman sila sa dati. Style!
