If it's an aftermarket add-on (the owner bouth it, cut a hole in the roof and installed it), it might bring down structural rigity and cause leaks in the long run (especially if its a surplus unit).

If it's an OEM/manufacturer-installed unit that came with the car out of the factory, the main problems i've encountered is lower interior headroom.

ganyan ba sa pinas, hanggang moonroof nalang ba? marami namang mayayaman dyan bakit di pa sila magpalagay nalang ng sunroof? alam nyo ba difference nila? hehehe :)

    Considering a sun/moon roof?

    Advantage:
If you hate the "pressure-cooker" heat after you've parked your car outside under the sun, a sun roof is the fastest way of draining all that heat.

    Disadvantage:
Given the same car model, one with sun roof and one without, the one with the opening roof might subtract a little interior headroom.

Also there's the consideration of somewhat decreased body rigidity, which might not be good if you drive hard.

Correct me if i'm wrong..... but isn't the moonroof yung tinted/smoke colored na glass window sa bubong.... sabay ang sunroof is yung parang maliit na pintuan sa bubong, kumbaga parang may trapdoor yung bubong mo?

    ehehehe

Aray! Natatamaan ako. Napakasakit, Kuya Eddie. Meron moonroof ang aking mga kotse. Napakasakit, Kuya Eddie. :glee:

Both my cars have moonroof. No real big deal to have one. If one can afford it, and wants it with the car, why not? Who's paying for the car anyway? Porma? Hmmm. Maybe if the weather is clear but the roads are wet, I can still open the moonroof and breathe air (that is if it's clean) without breathing mud the next time someone splashes next to me.

FYI, mas inferior ang sunroof. Moonroof have the tilt and slide feature pero and sun roof walang tilt. This is according to my ride's manual. May isa kasi akong 13 year-old car na may sunroof at isang 2002 model na may moonroof. Parehas silang glass with sunshade.

As for the disadvantage, shun_sakurai hit it right on the nail...... "limited headroom". But with the typical Pinoy height, hindi naman sya ganon ka-disadvantage.

I shun_sakurai's assumption na one advantage is defusing the heat wave. 'yan parati kinaiinisan ko especially kapag summer.
  • monroof/sunroof pros & cons:

    pros:
fastest way to release heat in a sun-baked car
    mas-"astig" than a car w/o one.
enables you enjoy breathtaking views. (imagine yourself peeping outside the moonroof while cruising in the countryside with the cool breeze touching your face, ofcourse with someone else driving.)
    cons:
sacrifice in the structural integrity of the car
foreign objects may enter your car when it is opened.
air drag increased when it is opened thus translating to higher fuel consumption
leak problems in the long run

Magazine once. I think he was test-driving the new Nissan X-Trail 2.5. :)

I can't attest to that advantage because my SX8 City has no sunroof (and doesn't really need it because of the strong aircon), but it makes sense. One more outlet for hot air makes your car cooler quickly right? :)
  • my car has a sunroof ok sya kase pag nag yo-yosi dun na lng kami mag tataktak kase pag sa windows me tendecy na mapunta sa back seat......

Hmmm.... I think sunroof is made of metal panel and moonroof is made of glass... Both can be manual (pop-off type) or electric type with slide and tilt functions.
  • Curious lang ako...does the moonroof glass easily be damage? Chipped? Scratch? or cracked?

It's basically like the windshield - made out of tempered glass. It takes a beating as well but there are shields that can be installed to prevent road debris from hitting the glass itself.

  • i have an oem moonroof
i had it installed diy style
    so far so good

the setup was built to leak inside, it has 4 drainage points
    hopefull di ito mag bara.
