Is the Philippines getting the new Sentra??

The 2004 Nissan Sentra. It is being sold in Singapore and Taiwan now. And rumors are that it might move on to the Philippines. Looks quite similar to the current model but with some uplifting...good enough to compete with the Altis...

but i wish that Nissan went into a more sporty path when designing the sentra...instead, the choose luxury.

i hope there would be more legroom for the rear passengers. what kept us from buying a sentra is the less than ample legroom sa likod which only people below 5'-5" can fit. legroom matters specially for those long "outta town" trips.

If its the Taiwan version, you can expect it to come to our shores as Nissan Motor Philippines is tied up with the Yulon group which manufactures Nissan in Taiwan.

The current model we have here is actually based more on the N16 Nissan Pulsar rather then the US version B15 Sentra. The platforms are related though.

On why Nissan preferred to put in the more luxo-type vehicles would be partly based on taxes and cost. The sport models of Nissan uses bigger engines (i.e. SR20DE, QR25, VQ30, etc) so the cost might bring up the prices too much... however, the newer taxes should come into their favor now. The other reason is their marketing dept and tie-up with Yulon usually gives them the less-sportier models. Sport models dont necessarily mean bigger/higher-HP engines always, they could also work on the suspension and brake set-ups, why dont they work on that then?

On a side-note... The 2.5L engine on the X-Trail can be made to fit the current Sentra model now. :) Hmmmm....
  • I read it in the Inquirer this morning and they will be launching the new Sentra. 1.8L na version pa ata ang ilalabas nila. I noticed the teasers too in the newspaper's main section. If I'm not mistaken, by next month eh ilo-launch na nila.

I'll attend the launching of 2004 Nissan Sentra later. =)
  • It'll be launch today.
  • I've seen it being test-driven in Makati... A friend of my family pointed it out to me when we were driving in Buendia, Makati... Looks good to me... :D
  • O, see! Launch na pala, eh! :)

    Slamm,
Our current Sentra is actually based on the "G10" Bluebird Sylphy, a Japan model. :)

As for the new mildly facelifted Sentra...I've seen the teaser ads and I've heard of a 131bhp 1.8L model to top their range. The new Sentra rear end is also a clue to the appearance of the new Cefiro/Teana.

Actually if you type down a search on Google for N16 Pulsar and G10 Sylphy, you get the same vehicles...

However, the platform designation that we have locally are the N16's. :)

    I see...thanks for the info Slamm :)
  • so, do you think it can managed to be on top or even make it equal with the industry leaders today like toyota and honda?

Its a long shot IMHO... The Sentra still has its shortcomings (i.e. the rear interior room as compared to the Civic and Corolla)... i also find the Altis to be more solid then this car as well.

Nissan Phils walang website... It's UMC (Universal Motors Corp), the manufacturer of Nissan commercial vehicles and light trucks, that has one.
