the batibot studio was located at #720 Efifanio De los Santos Av (i think). anyway, it's completely demolished now, but i had the chance to visit said studio a few years ago when i wuz still in my old job. i never really loved batibot (since i'm a sesame street fan) but i must admit, it's 1 heck of a show for kids of all ages.

Correction: The Batibot office was originally located at 821 Edsa, QC (near Cinderella office). The studio was owned then by Kuh Ledesma. It was one of the biggest studios then. Even ad agencies used to rent the studio for their shootings. However, due to rental increases (and a land dispute between Kuh and another landowner), Batibot was forced to move out of the compound, and had--since 1993 or 94--relocated to a much smaller studio/office in 12 Saint John Street, Cubao, QC (near LVN studios).

FYI: Batibot has been reformatted into a 30-minute program entitled "Koko Kwik-Kwak", which features the young eagle mascot, Koko. Some of the program's original songs and segments are still being aired in this new program (over GMA 7).

How did I know this? Because I used to work for Batibot, that's why.

thank u for the correction & for the new piece of info.

anyway, when i said "demolished" i wasnt referring to the show. i was talking about the studio. you see, everytime i pass by said studio ( since i often use edsa as my route when i report for work), i no longer see any structures in it unlike before. all i see is that big gate giving the impression that there's indeed no more structures in it. now, since u obviously know more about this things than i do, can u clarify it? is the batibot studio in edsa really gone/demolished/destroyed? if not, well, it looks like that na kasi, eh & my apologies for saying such.

i still think batibot & its songs are really great.

Hindii ba si Kiko 'yung matsing sa Koko Kwik-kwak? Saka parang magkatunog ang boses nina Koko at Pong Pagong, di ba? (well, from what I can remember...)

To jack_ lucas_ph: Yup. The Batibot studio in 821 Edsa is gone. It was demolished a long, long time ago.

    Batibot Trivia:

Pong Pagong and Kiko Matsing are original creations of Jim Henson & The Children's Television Workshop (CTW)--yup, the same company that produces Sesame Street. "Batibot" is actually the successor of "Kalye Sesame" (the Pinoy version "Sesame Street") starring Junix Inocian, Isay Alvarez, and Angie Ferro (if I remember it right). It was reformatted into "Batibot" in 1984.

When the popularity of "Batibot" started to overshadow Sesame Street's, CTW decided to increase the royalties for Pong and Kiko. Since PCTVF (Phil. Children's TV Foundation--the company that produces Batibot) couldn't afford to pay the skyhigh royalties ($1M annually, I think), Pong and Kiko were cancelled. That's why PCTVF had to replace them with the less popular and less lovable Koko Kwikkwak.

This may be a spoiler for those who relish their memories of Pong (and still wants to remember Pong NOT as a puppet but as their dear friend) and other Batibot characters. So if you don't want to read it, better stop here.

The guy who did the voice and puppeteering of Pong was trained by Jim Henson's people in NY. In order to manipulate Pong, the puppeteer had a small electric fan inside the Pong suit ('coz it's very hot inside). He also had a small TV in order to monitor how Pong moves his right hand and his eyes (Pong couldn't move his left hand coz the puppeteer's left hand manipulated Pong's winking eyes).

The lady who did the voice and puppeteering for Gingging is the same lady who did the voice and puppeteering for Manang Bola. Actually, she had to replace the original voice and puppet talent for Gingging after the latter migrated to US.

The guy who's behind Pong also did the voice for "Direk" (the nervewreck showbiz director). The lady who did the voice and puppeteering for Ningning is the same lady who did the voice and puppeteering for Irma Daldal.

I wish you could all see the outtakes. Sometimes, Ningning and Gingging would talk dirty to each other (and to the boy puppets as well). That was hilarious!

The Batibot talents' pool remains to be unmatched and unprecented in Phil. TV. Some of the composers who contributed songs to the program include Louie Ocampo (who composed the original Batibot theme), Mel Villena, and Jaime Fabregas. Some of the major stars that appeared in the show (some of them, for free) include Kuh Ledesma, Jon Santos, Monique Wilson, Cristine Bersola, Ely Buendia and the Eraserheads, Aiza Seguerra, John Lapuz, Yoyoy Villame, Ogie Alcasid, and Dolphy.
