hey carlo.
the following are accredited organizations at the UP College of Medicine:
1. Medical Students' Society (MSS)
2. Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority
3. Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity
4. LIKAS
5. UP Medchoir
6. UP Medrhythmics
7. Medical Student Council (MSC)
8. PAGSAMA
9. Lingkod ER (although UP Manila wide to)
10. Medical Students for Social Responsibility
11. Regionalization Students' Union
12. *** (UP Manila wide din to)
I suggest you join the MSC and the MSS. OK rin sumali sa PAGSAMA. I'm part of the MSC and I can tell you it's OK. You can join as a volunteer in one of the committees of the council. Two of your future classmates are co-chairs of the special projects committee. Ask them na lang mga INTARMED yung mga yun. MSS is also OK coz they have a lot of members. MSS ang may hawak ng TRP or Tao Rin Pala, a sort of variety show for medical students and faculty held every December. Lingkod ER offers you exposure to the ER of PGH. Since it's a university-wide organization, you'll be working with PT, OT, BSN, Public Health etc. majors. If you want, you can also set up your own organization. Student friendly naman ang UP College of Medicine unlike the other colleges of the university.

thanx benj!!
i was actually thinking of joining the STudent Council...i was part of the STudent Council of DLSU and once you have an itch to be part of an org, you just have to scratch it
what do you do sa MSC? what does the special projects committee do? i'm kinda interested.
tsaka what's the MSS all about?
cud i call you sometime? hingin ko kay MOn yung no. mo. k lang? thanx a lot!
you'll soon find out rubz
takbo ka for student council para masaya... most college of medicine elections are uncontested eh... para bang kung sino lang ang may gusto e siya na
mss is a service org if you're into that kind of stuff... and as benj said they do the variety show every year

yup yup kei lang.well, i'm chair of the Intarmed committee of the MSC. yung special projects committee new addition this year by the new MSC administration so i still don't know what its true function will be. tell me if you want to join the MSC. takbo ka rin ng MSC o kaya ng USC (University Student Council) sa february para masaya. yun nga lang ibang-iba ang pulitika sa UP. it's really VERY VERY different from what you've probably experienced in DLSU. usually, national issues ang hot topics during election campaigns and stuff like "dapat nating panindigan ang ating pagiging Iskolar ng Bayan" crop up. basta iba. anyway, maraming ginagawa ang MSS from medical missions to parties and stuff of the like. it's something like a med majors' organization. im not exactly what else the MSS can offer. i'll ask around for more info. btw, you might be approached by Mu Sigma Phi or Phi Kappa Mu when you get into med. pag-isipan mo muna kung sasali ka or hindi. i'm told that only an average of 6 to 10 guys per batch join these fraternities. there are a couple of other fraternities in UP Manila but i suggest that you don't join any of them. aside from the organizations in the UP College of Medicine, there are a couple of other university-wide organizations like the UPM Debate Circle, YFC etc. anyway, just give me a call if you have any questions or anything.
If you like singing with a group, you can try joining the UP Med Choir. They have improved a lot since Rico became the choirmaster (they went on a US tour last year!). He graduated last year, but still rehearses the group. You don't have to know how to sightread, all you need is a voice that can carry a tune and lots of enthusiasm! This is a great way to detoxify (and you'll need to do that quite a lot!) Word of warning: the schedule is a little stretched, be prepared to spend some lunch hours rehearsing! But once you're in, it's quite a lot of fun. I think they hold auditions at the start of the sem.

member of MedChoir - wohoooooooo!if singing is your passion, and you'd like to keep your mind of med school even for just a few hours, then this is the perfect org for you!hehe
currently an app of PAGSAMA - and so far, it's been fun!looking forward to our TRP presentation tom
vol corps for MSC - minsan marami ring pinapagawa, minsan wala ring magawa...it depends on the composition of the student council, (whether or not they have good projects lined up for the college and if they can motivate the constituents enough). I used to be part of STRAWBS, but then I moved to Formations. We're trying to revitalize the committee now, sana magtuloy-tuloy na
ayun pa lang sinasalihan ko......
interested in joining
Sandok - the cooking org
Outdoor Society - yeah, let's climb some mountains!
and maybe either MSS or MSSRFutsal or VBall would've been fun for the training rin
Sana may art org ang med, wala lang...my batchmate and I were talking about this one IPC meeting last sem hehehe who knows, it just might come true
Wheeeee I <3 Med (kahit hindi pa proper, pero malapit na) and I think my joining of the said orgs figured a lot in my appreciation of UPCM
<-nakakainis ata 'yung smiley haha
