    STUDENT ACHIEVERS [Academic & Non-Academic]
(just the recent ones, SY 2000-2001)

i, like time and change, wait for no one. I push myself to the limits of intellect and body because the challenge is worth the effort. The little steps I take towards my goals give me a better understanding of myself and of God's grand design for me. With all my strengths and limitations, I return to the world what I have. My inspiration comes from the knowledge that forces greater than I are at work to help make my society better.

IN THE FIELD OF EDUCATION (just the recent ones, SY 2000-2001)

i lean from the dynamic exchange of knowledge. My education is unending, my drive limitless. I reach for the boundaries of the human spirit, and refuse to chain myself to closed concepts of specialization. I live for the inexorable, inalienable right to learn from everything I witness and undergo. I aim for excellence, not simply for individual standards and improvement, but for the satisfaction it gives knowing that I provide the people around me with thought-provoking, worthwhile information that enriches their daily lives.

    Post

    Can't blame them.

Totoo.. . The future begins here......for the slow and the rejects of the real top-tier schools.

    Mwehehehehehehhe

    Peace and love.

Lasallian Education is a globally recognized and accredited institution of learning. It's diversity and stretch reaches the whole archipelago including the major continents of the World...81 countries...more than 1000 educational institutions...over 4,000 De La Salle Christian Brothers...56,000 Lasallian Lay colleagues...and more than a million students and their families worldwide served.

St. John Baptist De La Salle

No matter how long your alumni list is and no matter how many schools world-wide are affiliated with your school, people will remember your school for their most notable alumni.

Ironically, I was struck by the crude straightforwardness yet subtle truthfulness of the post below.

    Lastly, it made me laugh.

Aba, maganda yata itong bagong laro nina exterminator at greener_pastures - Jesuit Schools vs. La Sallian Schools.

It is worthy to note that the reputation and performance of a sister school abroad has nothing to do with the reputation and performance of the affiliate schools in the Philippines. If that were the case, then it wouldn't be fair to schools like UP or NU who have no sister schools abroad. And, at least as far as Ateneo is concerned, the Philippine schools do not need to ride on the coat tails of their sister schools.

So how do these schools compare in the global arena? greener_pastures classified the La Salle school system as "world class". The term "world class" is associated with performance, not mere presence and membership. In the context of sports, for example, the Philippines is a member of the IOC (membership) and a participant in every recent Olympic Games (presence). But only its boxing, teakwondo, and bowling teams can be classified as "world class" because it is these teams that have produced medals in recent years.

In terms of reputation, I can't speak for the La Salle schools, but as far as I know, many Jesuit Universities mentioned by exterminator such as Georgetown, Holy Cross, Fordham, Marquette, Loyola U., Seattle U., Boston College, ESADE, Stonyhurst (alma mater to members of the House of Lords and Commons), Sophia U. (alma mater to members of the Japanese Diet), the Pontifical Gregorian U. (alma mater of 19 popes and 12 saints) and so on are famous around the world not just in name but also for their original work in the arts, humanities and sciences.

In terms of surveys, its very difficult to judge because only American schools have been included in surveys whose methods are proven and ongoing. A look into a recent ranking published by USNews in this website - http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/col.../rankindex.htm shows that American Jesuit schools have placed respectably in the competitive U.S. education system. Both Holy Cross and Georgetown have placed among the top-tier Liberal Arts Colleges and National Universities respectively. Other Jesuit schools have placed in the 2nd-tier and 3rd-tier. I can't speak for American La Salle schools because none of the schools named "La Salle" seem to have made it to the top 1,000 of the rankings, unless I missed out on something.

And finally, with regards to an earlier post:

...and may I add the qualification: no matter how much space-wasting graphics you use to window-dress your posts...

Granted that the "world class" performance of a schools' alumni are a measure of the "world class" caliber of its schools, then Jesuit schools have, to a certain extent, proven they are "world class". I can't speak for the alumni of La Salle schools, but the few Jesuit school alumni that I know of have shaped world history through their accomplishments.

I'm not that familiar with graduates from Jesuit schools around the world, and I doubt that exterminator is that knowledgable about the matter as well, but here are a few names, including the Jesuit institution that they attended, of accomplished people (actual degree holders and not just people who attended one or two years of elementary school) that I can drop for now:

    Voltaire - Louis-le-Grand

wasn't james worthy a tar heel? he played with MJ (or MJ played with him, as he is wont to say). did he get another degree at BC?

oh and you forgot to include mutombo to complete the list of georgetown alum centers. and allen iverson or did you exclude him on your list on purpose? you have to admit though. he is somewhat shaping BASKETBALL history.

    Rene Descartes - La Flèche

    Arthur Conan Doyle – Stonyhurst

    Maximilien Robespierre - Louis-le-Grand

Martin Heidagger (German Philosopher) – Jesuit Academy in Messkirch, Germany

    William “Bill” Clinton – Georgetown

Josef Stalin - Tiflis Theological Seminary

    Fidel Castro – Belen Academy

Charles Laughton (British Actor) - Stonyhurst

Ano ba yan! Baka sa top 1,000,000 makachamba at kasali na. Wawa naman. Nagigilti tuloy ako sa pagtukso. Aping-api na pala sa pagka-ebak-ish ang DSLU world-wide. Grabe.

Peace and love? Anong alam mo sa peace and love?

Don't wowwreee. I won't stoop to your level.

Baka nasa Tier 23rd kayo out of a total of 23 tiers?

    Mwahahahahahahaha

Make the most of what you have.

    Galeng-galeng. <clap clap clap>

    Masaya na kayo?

Talaga nga naman. It takes little to make ebakish people happy.

    Wawa naman.

Newei, we all go through that stage called toddler years. mga kakulitan.. childish thoughts.. and sometimes we are not aware of what we are doing.. to the point that sometimes we tend to eat our own poop. Luckily for me, i didn't reach as far as eating my own poop.

But eventually as we age, we gain the wisdom of our parents and elders. In the process, we also attain maturity and a sense of being. We will stumble and fall. We will actually commit mistakes. But the distinuishing factor that will make us real humans is the knowledge and ability to accept our faults and shortcomings both in ourselves and to society. It is in "genuine realization" that we become better souls and worthy recipients of the gift of life.

Everything is temporary. Time will reveal.

Hopkins is my favorite poet too. He used his own system called "sprung rhythm", an irregular system of prosody based on the number of stressed syllables in a line and permits an indeterminate number of unstressed syllables.

In his poem "Spring and Fall to a Young Child", he used sprung rhythm like this:

    Margaret are you grieving

    Over Goldengrove unleaving?

Nice words. I just wish you practice what you preach. Spamming, you see, is like scattering your poop all over the place and forcing people to eat it. Not very mature; not at all wise. Are you ready to accept your fault? Are you willing to accept your shortcoming? Let's see. Time, indeed, will reveal.

Wished granted even before it was wished!

I'm posting in a manner that is relatively suitable to respond to the thread question.

If it asked for alumnus & not alumni, i would have given an easier simplex reply. But by common sense, this is a qualified spamming thread as seen in the behavior of the various thread participants. Hope you don't be such a singleton and one-track minded lad.

Maybe I would return the question to you.

You are such a fault finder even in the other threads. Moreover, you are like a reflexive disparager.

Yes you have outgrown to be a bambino, but my kerugma on maturity is in close affinity with morality.

Anyway, I just don't practice what I preach, I also rightfully encourage it to deserving individuals.

Take your time in assimilating my previous post. Time will reveal.

    straightshooter,

Let him spam all he wants. Don't you just enjoy seeing his posts backfire on him every now and then? If he didn't spam, PEX wouldn't be as fun.
