Here's the box-office standing of the movies na kasali sa filmfest (according to my friend na nakapanood ng report ng certain "Eagle" sa unang hirit)
    1. Magkapatid
    2. Diskarte
    3. super B
    4. I think im in love
    5. mamasan
    6. utang ni tatang
Thanks for the info charisse_05. Buti ka pa napanood mo na. So, number one pala yung movie, iboy-cott ba naman daw, wa-epek

Malakas talaga ang dating ni Ate Shawie and I am also confident that she will win the best actress award. I read it kasi na super praise sila sa acting niya e. And this is definitely her movie.

I was so exited to see the film, thinking it would be shown nationwide (simultaniously) ...... But, I guess I have to wait for at least 2 weeks before it gets shown Here in BICOL........... I have not heard or read a bad comment about the film, so the more I can't wait to see it.

I think this is the only movie that can pack the moviehouses from the glitzy Power Plant amd Glorietta cinemas to the those in the Manila and Cubao areas.

Kaya hindi ako surprised na milya-milya talaga ang layo ng box-office gross ng "Magkapatid" from second-placer "Diskarte" and the rest of the entries.

I read nga na super lakas daw yung movie and talagang milya milya ang agwat sa ibang movie. Well, it just goes to show na kahit anong gusto mong pangboboycott any sa movie kung gusto talaga ng taong panoorin papanorin talaga nila and maganda kasi ang istorya and superb pa ang akting ni Mega and I think marami kasi talaga siyang fans kahit saan.

Some article I gather relating to the movie....

Kumpleto na ang experience ko and I hope people appreciate this movie.

Heard that Magkapatid grossed an astonishing P9.6 Million on 12 June, its first full day of showing.

It is breathtaking considering that wala na halos pera ang mga tao at hinihintay na nila ang pay day which is 14 or 15 June.

Magkapatid, the box-office giant of the 2002 Manila Film Festival, is expected to do even brisker business on Saturday and Sunday, traditionally the two biggest movie-going days of the week.

Here are some info I gather about the movie......press realeases

    Dinno Erece

Ang reporters, kanya-kanyang text messaging, reporting what movie is getting the highest ticket sales depende sa lugar na pinagpapanooran nila. I Think I’m In Love.Sa pinagpanooran naming SM Manila, Magkapatid din ang runaway winner although its Super B vs Diskarte for the second place at sumusunod sa kanila ang I Think I’m In Love. Obvious nang Magkapatid ang magta-top grosser all the way sa MFF 2002.

    FILMFEST UPDATE:

Topgrossing Viva entry to the Manila Film Festival, Magkapatid, continues to lord it over in the many theaters in the metropolis with Maverick’s Diskarte coming up second in the grosses.

The wholesome crowd of students, children and family members make Super B and strong third-placer with Regal’s pa-cute I Think I’m In Love also drawing in a good crowd.

As of now, Magkapatid, insiders say, had made its P20 million in Metro Manila.

Manila Filmfest update: Nananatili sa number one slot ang Magkapatid nina Sharon Cuneta at Judy Ann Santos, number 2 ang Diskarte nina Rudy Fernandez at Ara Mina.

Nasa third slot ang Regal Entertainment’s I Think I’m In Love at 4th placer ang pelikula ni Rufa Mae Quinto.

    ***************************

And from Mr. Alfie Lorenzo, sino pa kundi ang manager ni Juday, it seems that pinapalabas niya na big hit ang movie dahil kay Juday, she's not really fair.

Ayaw naming mag-rely on our own kayabangan.

Hit ang movie mostly because of Sharon the MEGASTAR!

    Excellent Shawie

Let me make a plug for the film "Magkapatid," which I saw Thursday night at the Power Plant Mall. I saw it with my cousins Rina and Maria, my friends Angeli and Zsa Zsa, and a lone thorn, Bernard.

I've always been a "Sharonian" and this is one of her best, most convincing performances. Sharon is excellent in showing us the depth of sorrow and confusion of a mom who has suffered the worst type of loss possible.

    javascript:brknews250x250_020602_go()
Christopher de Leon has an excellent, straight to the heart moment while addressing his son Justin, at Justin's tomb in the family mausoleum. Judy Ann Santos and Dingdong Dantes are a good pair, essaying credibly the travails of a young married couple. Juday is at her best in her scenes of sisterly bonding with Shawie. You can see and feel that the two really connect, and they establish an easy, comfortable rapport.

Direk Joel Lamangan did a great job because a lot of the scenes are "tuhog," meaning there were no cuts or changes in camera angles, just a seamless, flowing take. It's impressive because for film, with just one camera, the blocking has to be very precise and the measurements of the focus, the position of the dolly tracks as well as the movements and delivery of the dialogue have to be rehearsed over and over again. The benefit is that you get a continuous and natural flow of the action and emotions.

This is one melodrama that doesn't ever feel long drawn out. The pacing is just right, and the film is very successful in making me care deeply about the characters.

    **********************************************

DIRECTOR Joel Lamangan comes up with a fairly involving drama in "Magkapatid," Viva Films entry in the newly revived Manila Filmfest. Tailor-made for Sharon Cuneta and Judy Ann Santos in their first film together, the story starts by establishing how close Cita (Sharon) and Liza (Judy Ann) are to each other. Cita is an accomplished obstetrician married to a rich businessman, Bobby (Christopher de Leon.) They have one son, Justin (Mark Wilson.) Lisa eloped while still a teenager and is now married to Mike (Dingdong Dantes), a drummer. They have two sons, Marco and Miguel. Cita often gives financial assistance to her needy sister and even helps Liza and Mike get a bank loan for their own house, which is just opposite her and Bobby’s own residence.
But their loving relationship is shattered when Cita’s son drowns in a lake resort along with Liza’s eldest son. Cita blames Liza for neglecting to supervise the kids properly and wallows in depression and misery. This also ruins her marriage and Bobby decides to leave her. Becoming even more irrational, she demands that Liza give Miguel to her in exchange for Justin.
Since the film centers mainly on Cita’s inability to cope with her loss and grief, Sharon emerges as the central character. The narrative focuses on her solely after her son dies, giving her dramatic highlights like when she becomes hysterical in the rain while running after her son’s school bus. You can really feel Cita’s anguish in Sharon’s performance and she’s more effective for us when she just emotes quietly, like when she watches the old videos of her son by herself while tears effortlessly stream down her face.

Judy Ann manages to hold her own against Sharon, even if she is actually only main support to her Ate. Her most effective scene is when she reveals to Mike that she is pregnant once again. But their best scene together is when Cita finally returns Miguel and Liza runs out to Cita in her car. It’s a wordless scene but they convey a world of emotions just by looking at each other while tears threaten to well up from their eyes. Christopher and Dingdong play mainly supporting roles, but Christopher is given his own dramatic moment in that scene where he talks to his dead son in the family crypt while tears roll down his cheeks. We won’t be surprised if "Magkapatid" would win most of the awards in the Manila Filmfest.
