Asking about schools doesn't mean that person is not doing research.

most schools will put their best foot forward.

  2. #3342
There's already been experiences from schools posted here. And opinions too, it would be best for you to actually gonto the school and have a tour. Check out the faculty roster and what their faculty has done the past years before teaching at that school. That's research. If you read the thread thoroughly you'd know that we have also given tips on what points to consider when choosing a school. Student's opinions vary and are almost always biased.

You can't always just rely on others opinions all the time. Goodluck.

  3. #3343
I've researched some of the schools which I think is good. Even went to check some. That means I already have my objective data. What I'm after are opinions made in the present. It will give me an idea of what's really happening inside the school. I want to make sure that I'll get all the offers they are advertising. This is just one of my sources of information and I am not just relying on the opinions of others alone.

Don't judge. Just because someone's asking, it already means that he/she is not researching. If it's inevitable to think that someone wants to be spoonfed, you can say it in a nice way. You can be strict in your speaking if you're in the kitchen with your students/workmates. This is a forum. It's not the ground where you need to show your superiority to others. Everyone's equal here. God bless!

  4. #3344
Oh I already said what I said in a nice way. If I was in the kitchen I'd have said "fock off" (spelling changed to be deemed acceptable). And saying that would have still been nice because we have said pretty harsh things in the kitchen. Worse thrown pots, bowls, spoons at each other. And yes this is a forum meaning we can express what we wanna feel however we want to. It's up to others how to take it.

Also, on your first inquiry you were asking how it is in that school without any particular hint that you have gone out there and did some research of your own. Some people who have asked here and have not been ignored have at least stated that they have read, called, or even toured the school.

And also you are not the only one asking around here seemingly asking to be spoon fed. But you are the first to balk.

Thanks for the advice! I might just look for an internship/stage.

My goodness. -facepalm-

Appletart: Stage in Europe!!! I know Fat Duck takes stagiares. elBulli used to take stagiares too. But you dont get paid. Or try L'Atelier Joel Robuchon in Singapore. Goodluck! If you have the means to study again, take the money and use it to go someplace else nalang and stage there.

  7. #3347

  8. #3348
It's better to have line cooking experience. I worked for a catering company before and there is not much challenge. If you're starting out, between catering and staging. I'll choose the latter. But also, beggars can't be choosers! Haha

I actually don't mind if I won't get paid lalo na kung madami rin naman akong matututunan. I emailed them all na! Sana mag reply.

Thanks sa mga advice! Have you done a stage with any of them?

  10. #3350
No unfortunately. I haven't staged. I just started working. It has only been thru the years of working did I figure out where i wanna take my career. So yun. I sent my resume to Noma. Lol the website says they dont have anything open, but what the heck! Lol I figured i'll send my resume every month. Lol

    Hi appletart!
ganun ba talaga kahirap mag hanap ng cook job as a fresh grad? saang hotels ka nag try?

    Hi Guys,

Fundamentals lang kasi matutunan mo talaga, it's up to us students na to PRACTICE and READ READ..

Sino may connections sa 5 star hotels, baka pwedeng magpa hook up? Hahaha.

i'm also in my 30's . ahead pa nga ako sa'yo by a couple of years. i'm a career shifter hehe. i pursued culinary arts because it's my passion and true calling.

just graduated last march. ang course ko ay grand diploma in culinary arts and baking and pastry production.

before ako nagmartsa me trabaho na ako. first apply ko ng trabaho natanggap naman ako. masasabi kong mapalad ako kasi wala akong mga koneksyon whatsoever.

syempre aside from God, i attribute that to having good grades in school, getting good recommendations from my chef instructors and getting good feedback from my ojt venue plus doing well in my job interview. i was interviewed by our executive chef and the head of our companies' hr department.

starting your culinary career at a late age is a disadvantage
but it's not a hindrance if you have the drive, the determination, the discipline and the right attitude to make it in this industry.

kung passion mo talaga ang pagkukusina then go for it!

    good luck!

I'm staging on my days off in the best restaurant in Atlantic Canada! I'm sooo happy! I love it! Hopefully when my immigration papers come thru I'd get a full time job there. For now, patience.

    Happy cooking, y'all!

More info here: http://www.iscahm.com/course/DCA-ACIII_Course_2011.pdf

I'm not familiar (or baka wala yata?) with any ACF accredited schools here in Manila.

Re: the book & knives. No books. Yes to knives & bag.
