Transferring to UP (merged threads from Academe)

I'm a freshman planning to transfer to UP by second year. Actually, I'm contented with my school right now but my parents are asking me to try to get to UP. Hmm.... I thought maybe I should give it a try.

What are the things I have to do to get in? Is it hard to get in if you are a transferree, than being an incoming freshman? And what are the courses easy to get into?

My grades are okay, meaning they are above average, but they are just for first sem. Around 1.7 something.

It's a lot easier to get into UP as a transferee. You only need to submit your Transcript Of Records (TOR) with no alterations. This is very important because UP is very strict about authenticity. 2 years ago, a transferee from an exclusive school for the girls in Makati caught submitting a fake TOR Sayang, dahil she had already earned 32 units in UP before she got caught at napaka ganda n’ya. In that same year, 2 guys from Ayala Heights (magkapatid) were expelled by the university for committing the same reason. Ironic yung cases kasi all of them have come from catholic schools. Kaya, make sure you’ll submit the authenticated one. Your GPA must not be lower than 1.75 in most Bachelor of Arts courses and 1.5 for the Bachelor of Science. All quota courses do NOT accept transferee. At least 30 units ang na earned mo from other schools.

I'm transfering to UP Diliman. I got an academic average of 1.95.

The required grade for transferees are not less than 2.0 GWA.

Is it possible for me to get accepted at UP Diliman?

Please do give me some points on how to choose a nice course which fits my 1.95 GWA.

Ano ano ba ang mga courses na madaling mapasukan at maraming available slots?

You don't actually need a course right away. I think you can get admitted as a non-degree student and then select the course after one year. For UPD CS course, you need to enter UP first before you can transfer to Computer Science (need 30 units of UP course credits).

1.95 is actually higher that a 2.00 GWA so you won't have any problem about it (unless in the university you'd be coming from 1.00 is the failing mark)

I think that every department in UPD has different required GWA. It depends on the "demand" and popularity of the course. For instance, in Psychology the required GWA is 1.5 . In HRA the required GWA is 1.75. Courses liek Nutrition need 2.25 the last time I checked. I suggest you decide on a course you like, go to the department and inquire about their GWA.

hmm.. depende din sa course yung GWA na nire-require eh. pero it's gonna be hard for you to transfer since super-competitive talaga ng situation when it comes to transferring. even shifting nga minsan, ang hirap dahil kahit mataas yung grades mo, meron pang mas mataas sa'yo.

the problem is, madali ngang pumasok, mahirap namang mag-stay. oh well.

Ohh thanks people for your replies. Right now, I'm having difficulties. Big risks involved. With regards to the enrolment of my former school. The enrolment in my former school was scheduled last week of April. But the results of the UP transferees will be posted on the 2nd week of May. I'm a bit nervous.

1. subukan mo pumasok sa course na madali pasukan (try home economics) or mag non-major ka muna (meaning wala ka munang major )
2. sa first year mo sa UP, kunin mo lahat ng GE subjects (subjects na kinukuha ng lahat ng UP students no matter what your major is)
3. after 1 year sa UP, pwede ka mag-shift sa ibang course, depende sa grade mo. bsta taasan mo grades mo para mas madali maka-shift.

Shifting courses and campus is easy within the UP System - most courses need a gwa of 2.0 to be eligible. Transferring from another university to the UP System is quite difficult - not all courses are open to them.
