It's heaven for true blue jazz fans. No "pogi" jazz there as far as I know. ;-) It's an expat place actually. So wala yung mga usual na pa-konyo kids.

All Geared Up for Fete de la Musique 2002

On June 22, 35 music groups of all genres will gather at Ortigas Center for the annual French-sponsored music festival

The streets are alive... with the sound of the Fete de la Musique. For many local music fans, the very thought of the annual musical smorgasboard coming to town is enough to make one run through the hills singing in a Julie Andrews-esque frenzy. But maybe Sound of Music fans had it right all along. Music does have this certain infectious vibe.

The French certainly agree, as their Fete de la Musique (translation: A Festival of Music) - conceived by former French culture minister Jack Lang over 20 years ago - is now celebrated in 100 countries worldwide each Spring.

And what a spread it has always turned out to be. For culture-savvy Filipinos sick of the usual mainstream fodder, the French embassy's localized version of the Fete has traditionally celebrated the great diversity of contemporary Pinoy music, from the ethnic-inspired polyrhythms churned out by the drums of Pinikpikan, to the sophisticated bebop of jazz quartet Buhay. All this, plus rock and hiphop too, for those looking for more conventional fare.
