    I wouldn't want to venture a comment, I'm not a professional movie critic. But maybe this fact will shed light on the matter and help you think about it: "American Beauty" is a kind of rose and it's the one seen throughout the movie.

    Its kind of an ironic term.

    People think life in America is perfect. Stories of Pinoy balikbayans make it seem like the streets are paved with gold. But if you've seen the movie's ads and posters, they encourage you to "look closer." Its not as beautiful as it seems from afar.
