If it includes all expenses including doctors fee and hospitalization, that is a good deal. If you have Philhealth, hospitalization cost can be reduced by 10-15K less. I will be sending you a PM of the cost of Thyroidectomy in our setting to compare.
But do not treat of your operation as a commodity governed by prices. I know it is practical to canvass for a more affordable operative cost. But you have to make sure you are confident with your physicians. Getting a cheaper surgeon but with lesser "vibes" is not advised. If you are comfortable with your physician and the cost, then stay put. It is the level of trust that will dictate you where you should go.
hi mga docs,
Mother ko din po may hyperthyroidism. Sabi po niya nag-radioactive iodine na daw siya before (many years ago na), pero she's still taking neo-mercazole 3x a day for maintenance and sabi niya para daw di na bumalik yung goiter.
Last checkup daw nia was 9 years ago pa.
hope you can enlighten me. thank you very much po...
^ The effect of taking RAI will be magiging hypothyroid ka na (your mom pala) since sinunog or sinusunog yung thyroid gland mo. This is where the medicine comes in. For life na ito which you have to take religiously. Mine is Eltroxin, not sure kung the same yun ng neo-mercazole na iniinom ng mom mo.
What bothers me is that 9 years ago na pala yung last checkup niya. Kasi ako, I still need to see my endo at least once a year, kasi constant monitoring pa rin TSH/FT4 hormone level ko. The dosage of my medicine depends on the result of the lab kasi minsan wala naman ako kakaiba nararamdaman, pero toxic na pala ako hehe.. So I suggest it would be better if she'll see her doctor again.
Btw, I'm not a doctor. I'm just basing this on my very own experience. Hope this helps.
thank you...
mga how much po ba mga labtest ngayon for thyroid?
pano kung may hypertension, ok lang ba yang mga gamot sa goiter na yan i=take?
chizmelt, oo nga, neomercazole had been out of stock EVERYWHERE. can't take PTU kase allergic ako. =(
Please help.

I dont know if this would help but normally hospitals have charity ward type where the physicians are resident doctors. hhmm.... I think, patingin ka doon to get discounted labs or diagnostics. Iba-iba kasi rate pero pareho lang naman yun ginagawa when it comes to labs diba. Baka sosy ka or what, pero usually, it is really cheaper than the standard prize kaysa sa may independent labs. You can also try teaching hospitals like UP, UST and others.

hello po! follow up lang. i had my my laboratory last august 5. my ft3 and ft4 and tsh are normal na. sabi ng endo ko, with a year of medication i should be fine. however i am still experiencing bouts of fatigue kahit sedentary naman yung activities ko and i get atleast 7-8 hours sleep. tapos ang dalas din magcramps ng mga muscles ko kahit simple activities lang.
so i was admitted at medical city and they ran a whole lot of tests on me. my creatinine levels (CP MB, CPMM, CPK) are all elevated. before i was discharged, i submitted blood again for the kidney and heart daw pero babalikan ko pa yung results.
ano kayang possible diagnosis for this?![]()

I am suffering from hyperthyroidism. I'm just wondering w/c is better Surgery or Radio Active Iodine (RAI)? They said that in RAI, I have to take hormone replacement pill for life. How about in surgery?
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Hi,
I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, my laboratory result is:
TSH = 0.1 (0.6 - 5.0)
T3 = 2.8 (0.49 - 2.02)
T4 = 15.9 (4.80 - 12.0)
My hands tremor and sometimes experiencing palpitation. I like to gain weight but very difficult to achieve because of this. What should be the best and safe treatment?
Thanks
There are various treatment arms for your case:
1. Medications
2. Radiocative iodine uptake
3. Surgery
Deciding which treatment is best for you will depend on your particular case, your lifestyle, needs and requirements.
With regards to weight gain, treatment of your disease will help in increasing your weight. This is based on the assumption that when you lessen your thyroid hormone levels, you lessen the metabolism of the body, allowing you to store more nutrients. However I hope that weight gain is not your only motivation to have your hyperthyroidism treated. The danger in a hyperthyroid state is the risk for developing cardiac and metabolic complications which can kill you.
Ask your doctor if you will be needing an endocrinologist or a surgeon.
