World Of WarCraft Alphatest after E3 - 05/25

According to Blizzard World Of WarCraft (WOW) will enter the internal alphatesting stage sometime soon after E3. This means that the beta test will propably fall into the spring 2003 timeslot, which according to Blizzard will most likely happen. The version shown at E3 is a 4 month old build by the way, so it will definetly be an intresting year for all intrested in WOW, and we can only speculate on how much better the game already is from what was shown at E3.

This is going to be literally WOW!!!

World of WarCraft in WarCraft III Collector's Edition!

Rapido has bought to our attention that inside the Warcraft III Collectors Edition there's a small advert for WoW. The ad simply says...

Optamistic? Well who knows, nice thought though. Also inside the collectors Edition is The Art of War book which also features some fantastic new WoW art. I guess this is just another reason to buy the CE

Game Revolution have posted an MMO round-up which also incudes a small bit on World fof Warcraft.

As a long time fan of Warcraft the strategy game, I was drawn to World of Warcraft and the Blizzard booth like a moth to flame. Here they were secretive about their progress and what was to come, but they were happy to show off their work so far. And what they had so far looked damn good.

World of Warcraft takes place in a 3D world from a first-person or third-person perspective like Everquest, but the similarity ends there. WoW stays true to the cartoony roots of the strategy games with a unique look. Buildings, objects and characters all have a sort of rounded, non-linear feel. It looks just great, especially when your character is a huge, hulking troll.

So far, the designers will admit to four playable races - humans, trolls, orcs, and minotaurs. However, I've seen some dwarves, too, so I know they're in there. They were a little more mysterious about the character classes, showing off only a Warrior and a Shaman. Many, many more to come, they promise.

Most of the traditional MMORPG features are in here, like player-crafted items and player vs. player combat (PvP). But they were very tight with the details, and some questions haven't been answered yet, like whether or not there would be player owned homes and businesses that remain permanently in the world, like those in Ultima Online.

It would take a lot, I thought, to tear me away from World of Warcraft, but I was about to find out what the competition was up to. And the competition is fierce.

i dunno ... i kinda like it, but i'm hoping it won't be just like a 3D Diablo or something.

and would there be female Taurens or Trolls, and *God Forbid* female Orcs? and would it gross us out?

hope it has some local playground so us people who couldn't go online can at least have something to munch on. i'm basically thinking that it'd be like NWN.

if i can't play online then ... better begin planning to migrate somewhere where i can

Bill Roper is interviewed and admits he was quite surprised at the tease in the product glossies claiming "The Portal opens 2003". He agrees the beta will likely be in that year but the game won't see light of day before 2004.

I haven't really followed Blizzards MMORPG so I'm not quiet sure how this game will work yet.

I just dropped by Blizzards WoW Beastiary and I'm not too excited by the character development. Parang limited yata masyado yung character classes. Although it's good that they limited the available classes for each race. One thing I liked though was that each race would have access to specific racial skills.

I never liked Warcraft III (the RTS) but WoW seems interesting.
