2016 NBA Draft: The Ben Simmons Hype Begins

As of the latest mock draft, Ben Simmons toppled the list of possible rookies that will enter NBA next year.

I'm sure that the Lakers are interested in this type of hype right now.

Here is the latest mock from nbadraft.net:

2012 Scouting Report about Ben Simmons:

    NBA Comparison: Tracy McGrady
Strengths: 6'9 Aussie small forward with a versatile skill set ... High level athlete with a smoothness to his game ... Has a chance to be special ... Just turned 16 and already playing at an high level for high school age ... Lefty shooter with feathery touch and excellent release ... Grew up around the game, and shows a feel for the game that cannot be learned on the fly ... Adept at creating shots for himself and can spot up or pull up off the dribble ... Very good at creating offense for himself or others ... Has a tremendous basketball body with a big frame, wide shoulders, enormous hands and long arms ... Strong family background has made him a hard working kid with a strong work ethic ... High level vision and passing skills. His passing ability is rare for a forward ... Already 6'8 and his growth plates are still open. Could end up in the 6'10 range when all is said and done ... Great first step and knows how to use ball fakes to get his man off balance ... Shows the competitiveness to raise his level of play in clutch situations and when he's challenged ... Solid defender. Gets a low base. Good lateral speed. Stays in front of his man. Doesn't gamble ... Great maturity/composure. Rarely rushes things and gets out of control. ... Has avoided being coddled by the AAU scene ... His game is very advanced/complete for such a young player, doesn't have any glaring weaknesses ...

Weaknesses: He's such an advanced player for his age, any defiencies are really nit picking at this point ... Plays almost too unselfish at times. Not a prolific scorer, yet. Should look to become more aggressive at creating shots for himself ... Needs to mature physically, but has a great body already and will only continue to get stronger. Just a baby at 16 so plenty of time for his body to get stronger ... Will need to be able to block out the hype and stay focused ... Can become better at moving without the ball. Learning to set his man up off of screnes and staying active ...

Notes: Plans to play college ball after high school, and possibly come over to the US for his senior year ... Broke onto the scene with a strong performance at the 2012 Pangos Camp gaining national attention in the US ... Has proven himself against the best high school players on numerous occaisions ... Grew up around basketball. Father, Dave Simmons, played in the NBL ... Has known countryman Dante Exum since he was 7 years old ... Measured 69.5 in shoes, with a 611 wingspan and 229 lbs at the 2015 Nike Basketball Academy

Impressed ako sa laro ni Brandon Ingram. Mukhang siya yung magiging 2nd overall pick dito sa draft class na ito.

He's also a year younger than the other prospects in this draft class. And tunay na college freshmen at age 18.

the hype ain't ripe....the real deal is buddy hield, the lsu -ou game says it all, no outside game for bs, he's athletic, seems like he's just coasting along, trying to avoid getting injured, but that might reflect on his character/mental aspect of his game. when the game was on the line he went awol, lsu coaching staff partly to blame but hey, demand the ball fool! you in the court, you the top recruit, do your thing! past one and done players- wall, wiggins, davis they showed they can close a game, this guy needs to show more, all the games he played wherein he had eye popping stats were vs middle of the pack to low end teams but vs elite programs ho-hum!

I think Simmons is going to be a better version of Lamar Odom in the NBA. It looks like Brandon Ingram has the potential to be a Superstar in this league. Buddy Hield might become a Ben Gordon 2.0 in the NBA.

Gordon was a 21-22 ppg scorer in his prime.

With LSU struggling, Ben Simmons not likely to play in NCAA tourney. First time na di nakapasok yung team sa NCAA Tournament na naging no.1 pick eh si Michael Olowokandi. Good All around player, but having a terrible jump shot is going to limit his potential in the NBA. Right now Ingram is the safer pick for the no.1 overall pick, and he's also 14 months younger than Simmons.

Ingram might be the next Kevin Durant.

No changes in the draft order after the lottery

seems like a toss-up now between Simmons and Ingram for #1, I think in the end Philly will still pick Ben and Lakers will get Ingram, now from #3 with the Celtics its quite a blur

NBA prospect Jakob Poeltl: 'I can be a lot like Pau Gasol

University of Utah standout center Jakob Poeltl has begun his journey to the NBA, and as a projected lottery pick in this year's draft, has received comparisons to NBA players aplenty, particularly Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut, who also played his college ball at Utah before being chosen with the first overall pick in 2005.

If you ask Poeltl, he has the potential to resemble a different kind of big man: Six-time All-Star Pau Gasol.

Five players who improved their stock at NBA combine

I can be a lot like Pau Gasol, Poeltl said, per the Los Angeles Daily News. Hes a guy who has good touch around the basket and is a very good passer. He can dribble the ball. Hes even stepping out and shooting 3s. I hope I can get there too. Hes a winner and won championships. I can do that, too.

Poeltl who averaged 17.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.6 blocks and shot 64.6% his sophomore season while earning Pac-12 Player of the Year honors has impressed scouts with his 7-foot-1, 240 pound frame. He possesses an all-around skill set of a natural center without sacrificing athleticism, and by returning for his sophomore season, he took a massive stride forward in his NBA development and showed that he's capable of leading a team while doing so.

But with the small ball trend sweeping the NBA and with his jump shot as a primary concern, Poeltl understands the importance of strengthening his midrange game to be better suited for the next level just like Gasol.

The league is getting smaller, so you have to be more versatile as a big, Poeltl told the Daily News. You have to do more different stuff like step out a little bit, handle the ball and pass the ball. I feel like thats something Im pretty good at, so Ill fit in pretty well.

does having the first pick make or break a team?

honestly, PHI is the best example of a team that mishandled their draft picks.

simmons- who has the worse jumper, rookie lebron or simmons? analysts say simmon's biggest red flag is developing a jumpshot. can run the floor and make plays. will start at PF as a rookie.

ingram - he's lighter than a rookie durant. he might be too weak to become a strong scorer unless he bulks up. yet, he has good shooting touch, length and smooth moves.

bender - sure bust if drafted in the top 10. plays in the perimeter but shoots poorly.

jamal murray - can shoot, score and handle the ball. not an elite athletic though. he can be one of the best shooters in the league, which would take a lot of work though.

cris - has athleticism and potential to have outside shooting. i think he is still too raw to make an impact right away.
