Well if we study logic, it is really fallacious to accept something about a certain phenomenon or something as truth. Just because a well-known expert in explaining that thing or phenomenon said it, that doesn't imply that it is the truth. It is possible that the expert is lying for some reasons. It is also possible that s/he committed mistake along the process of finding the truth.
But then again, which is more logical? To accept explanation from a well known expert, or to accept it from just any joe on the street, or do the investigation by ourselves even though we know that we don't possess enough knowledge and resources.
When we are sick, what's the best thing we should do? Go to doctor and be examined, or take advice from just anyone out there, or just take any food or medicine that makes us comfortable without any consultation.
In case we want to know the teachings of Christ, whom we should rather listen? A professional who studied for 8 years or more in a secluded place, or just any joe in television that happened to read the Bible, intepret by himself and thinks he knows alot, or interpret it by ourselves even though we know that the Bible has been translated alot of times and we don't have access to the original ones.
Appeal to authority, is this really a fallacy, or it's more logical?
