When I first watched Sailor Moon, I thought it was absolutely ridiculous. No fighting, no punches and I got a good laugh at the "silly" way SM defeated her enemies with her little song and dance, tossed her little tiara and boom, the day was saved.
I got a few laughs from that first episode, then a few weeks later, I caught another episode. Sure enough, she did the whole thing again. Got some yuk yuks and LOL when I saw her swooning over some panty-waist called Tuxedo Mask. In the meantime, I was also watching Dragonball and I couldn't help but compare and criticize how idiotic SM was.
So another week came by, what's this? A new character, Sailor Mercury and all she can do is summon a fog. Pathetic. Sure enough, S Moon transforms with the same sequence and the same silly tiara thing again.
Funny thing happens during the week. Sailor Moon's transformation and Moon Tiara Action kept repeating itself inside my head. So much so that...
I found myself the following week actually waiting to see the next episode. And see her transformation and Tiara Action again.
From there, it was an on off thing, a love-hate relationship where I'd watch Sailor Moon from time to time. I kept missing a few episodes here and there but the less complex storyline allowed me to grasp the main points. This went on until the end of the Sailor Moon R series. If SM was like most animes where missing too many episodes would have left you high and dry where the story was going, I wouldn't be a fan today.
I grew into liking Usagi's clumsiness, the everyday highjinks with the Senshi in their off-hours, some insight into Japanese post-modern living and of course, those never na nakakasawa na transformation sequences and attacks.
By the time Sailor Moon S came out, I was HOOKED!
Main point is, the charm of Sailor Moon is that it's so different and unique from other animes and mainstream animation. It defies conventional logic at times but that's how I grew to like it. I wouldn't want it to turn into a clone of anything else. That's why I mentioned some posts above why I wanted it to retain the unique elements that made it so.
Anyway, these are my thoughts on the subject. I doubt the reboot will go the way I want to but who knows, we'll see.
