    Hi doc i don't know if I'm in the right thread to ask this, back in college I was so sleepy but fought hard to stay awake thruout the night because of school projects, my left eye got so red esp in the scleranear the nose(dunno if the term is correct), after a few days it went back to normal but when I don't get enough sleep or I get stressed it just gets red again and makes me look like i have sore eyes or something. I don't get irritated btw it's just my eyes and I'm wondering what specialist do I consult to?

    hello doc! question lang po.... i had my eyes checked and was told i do have astigmatism... yung left eye lang po ang may grade 25 po then the right is normal as in normal po. (went for a second opinion and same po sila ng sinabi about the grade and the lazy eye) anyway po question ko is.. the eyeglasses that i was given both side has a grade of 25. now im worried ok lang po ba na may grade din yung sa right ko? would it cause harm to my right eye since wala syang grade? should i ask them to replace the right side with a lens that has no grade? TIA

    @blu_me
    It won't cause any harm. If you're not comfortable with it, papalitan mo na lang.

    @monching11
    See an ophthalmologist. If possible, look for an external disease-cornea specialist.

    @AccIdPEx
    There are two General types of contact lenses: hard and soft. Yung hard, may built-in astigmatism correction na yun even if walang astigmaism yung patient. yung soft has one variant called a "torric" lens. This is the soft contact lens best used by people with astigmatsm.

    soft contact lens wearers, in general, need only about 3 days "off contact lenses" prior to Lasik screening and surgery.... not two months. Hard contact lens wearers usually need 2 weeks.

    I forgot to ask my ophthalmologist how to apply a dexamethasone ointment. Searched online and I figured I have to put it in the conjunctival sac. Is it unavoidable to have the meds touch my eye ball? I think it did when I blinked/closed my eyes. And is that okay?

    Thanks.

    It's okay... the medication was indeed made to touch the eyeball. HOWEVER... the question is where did the doctor want you to use it MORE: on the lids or on the conjunctival fornix (or sack).

    @blu_me
    You are most welcome!

    I have styes (again!). So I'm assuming on the lids? Aside from the dexamethasone ointment, I'm taking Bactidox (100mg) and Prednisone (5mg). Is it okay if I also drink usual meds for cough and fever while taking these?

  8. #1328
    Doc is ibrite available sa philippines?

  9. #1329
    @mykel14

    Doc good evening po. Ang sign po ba kapag tumaas na grade ng eyes e kapag sumasakit po yung batok? Kasi minsan po nagpa check up po ako sa ibang optometrist, at nagtataka po sila parang mababa daw yung grade ng glasses ko compared sa grade ng mata. Parang napaisip po ako baka dinadaya ako ng opto ko ngayon.

  15. #1335
    hi doc ritchie. yung tita ko po sinabihan na may early stages ng cataract. both eyes daw po. dapat daw po operahin. magkano po kaya ang gastos sa cataract operation for both eyes. life time member po sya ng philhealth. sana po marefer nyo ako sa mura pero magaling. kasi po wala naman trabaho tita ko na 70 years old. salamat po.

  16. #1336
    @Zeantick
    Generally, hindi sasakit ang batok with eye strain. The grade of your glasses is usually determined by YOU. sometimes, kahit mataas dapat, binababa ng optometrist if the patient can't tolerate the higher grade at the moment. Naturally, we can't rule out technician error as well.

    @Bergman

    You see, in my practice, if I see a beginning cataract, I NEVER use the word "dapat". I say "pwede na tanggalin if the patient wants". I'll PM you my schedule.

    Hi doc, hope you could answer all my queries.
    (1) want to ask how would you interpret my prescription. -.25/-.25 po ang nakaspecify at diagnosed with myopia daw po.. (2)pano po ba equivalent format nya sa 20/20 format? gano po kalinaw mata ko.. actually wala naman ako problem at nakakabasa ng maayos without any difficulty.

    and they gave me glasses with grade/multi-coated and for computer glare.. not so sure sa grade pero i think mababa lang naman dahil halos walang difference pag sinusuot ko sya.. but since this is my first time to use.. mejo nahihilo ako.. (3) is it ok to use that? di naman lalala eyesight ko or tataas un grade? and (4) there is still chances na maayos padin vision ko? (5) pag sinabing 'correction glasses', does that means that cinocorrect un eye vision to the point na magiging 20/20 ang vision mo?

    lastly, (6)magmamatter ba sa result ng eye check up pag pagod ang mata? I'm planning to consult and take an eye examination again after work.. would there be any difference sa result ng eye exam kung pagod ang mata ko at sa hindi pagod mata (something like having an eye check up when you just woke up). Thanks a lot doc.. pasensha na kung kinukulit ko naun.. di kasi ako nakapagtanung mashado sa opta when I last visited them.

    HI Doc, may question po ako sa left eye ko kasi nakakakita ako ng parang sinulid like na lumulutang. hindi naman siya humaharang talaga sa vision ko pero pag finofocus ko siya nakikita ko talaga na merong parang MGA sinulid sa vision ko. sa right eye ko wala naman.

    Ano po cause nito and treatment? Thanks!

  19. #1339
    another question:
    (7) is it true na kapag ok ang vision mo (20/20) then you wear eyeglasses with grade, chances are lalabo din ang mata mo? kahit minimal lang un grade - let's say 30/30 grade glasses.

    Hi Doc, have you heard about this news?

    Doctor pulls 13cm live worm from man's eye in India

    A doctor in India has pulled a live 13 centimetre-long worm from the eye of an elderly patient who was complaining of persistent pain in an operation reminiscent of a far-fetched alien movie plot.

    When Dr V. Seetharaman examined 75-year-old patient P.K. Krishnamurthy at Mumbai's Fortis Hospital this week, the eye expert was shocked by the highly unusual sight of the writhing parasite and had to operate speedily to remove it before serious damage was caused.

    "It was wriggling there under the conjunctiva," Seetharaman told AFP, referring to the thin membrane lining the eye. "It was the first time in my career of 30 years that I had seen such a case."

    Krishnamurthy had been suffering for more than two weeks with redness and irritation before the doctor pin-pointed the threadlike creature under a microscope on Wednesday.

    "He was also confused and very much disturbed," said Seetharaman.

    The specialist removed the 13-centimetre (five-inch) worm by making a small opening in the conjunctiva -- a 15-minute operation that was observed by the patient's horrified wife, Saraswati.

    "It just kept moving and jumping; it was scary for a bit," she told the Mumbai Mirror.

    The patient was relieved of his symptoms while the worm, which was alive for another 30 minutes after surgery, was sent to the hospital's microbiologists to be identified.

    Seetharaman had previously only heard of worms of about two to three centimetres being removed. "Probably this is a record," he said.

    He suggested the creature could have entered the patient from a cut in his foot or from eating raw or improperly cooked food, before entering the bloodstream and travelling to the eye.

    "If the worm was not removed it could have gone into the layers of the eye and caused visual loss," he said. "It could have entered the brain and caused major neurological problems."

    Dr S. Narayani, the hospital's medical director, agreed it was an extremely rare case. "We have a very active ophthalmology department and we have not come across a case like this in the last 10 years," she said.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

    So my question doc ito, case in point na the worm is from eating raw food, diba namamatay yung worms from food by the time it reaches the stomach?
