    Hmmm... didn't you ask your doctor up to when magsasalamin? Sometimes, if doctors aren't able to explain things well enough for you, it's just simpler if patients ask questions during the consult.

    Usually, glasses are worn for as long as may grado. Hopefully the eye deviation will disappear after some time. May gagawin pa after that depending on what's the cause of the deviation. If maximum noted improvement is not enough, then surgery will be needed to treat what's left. I'm guessing the reason no time frame was given is becasue there is no exact time frame or meron pang tests na gagawin. Usually it will depend on YOU because of your ability to make sure your child wears the glasses all the time.

    It is not necessary for "malabo ang mata" ng relatives for this problem to manifest. More so if you realize that not ALL your relatives consult an ophthalmologist yearly. Then there is the fact that your knowledge is based on "what you know of your relatives" instead of "what the reality is with each and every person in your family tree". So call it non-dominant genetics or plain luck.
    Hi Dr. Richie,

    F/up ko lang po regarding sa case ng daughter ko - she was advised to wear glasses and after 2months - wala pa din po pagbabago and medyo pumapasok pa din po yung isang mata nya (naduduling) ..
    Her Doctor in American Eye Center suggest Starbismus surgery ..
    Tanong ko lang po - is it safe po ba and ano po dapat namin i-expect after surgery ... like recovery, success of operation ...

    Thanks po.

    hi doc richie,

    Share ko lang po experience ko.. Nag start po ako mag glasses when I was 13 nung na adik ako computer games, 100 palang grado ko nun.. Bnawasan ko ang pagamit ng computer pero tumataas pa rin ** pero slight lang.. like from 100 to 150 to 200.. ***** nag wowork na po ako and 8 hours akong exposed sa computer monitors.. Pansin ko parang ambilis ng increase ko mula nung na exposed ako sa comp ng matagal.. Nagpacheck ako noong October 2011, and from 200 naging 300 na grade ko.. At ngaung april 2012 nag pacheck ako, naging 400 naman...Sabi nung doc baka may keratoconus daw ako and he recommended corneal topography.. Sadly wala sa eye center ng MMC nung machine na un (kagulat), dun kasi ako nirefer ng MHO ko...

    Questions ko po for second opinion po:
    1. All the optha na napuntahan ko sabi not related daw ang computer exposure.. Pero bakit ang bilis ng increase nya nung na expose na ako?
    2. Mapipigilan ko ba ang pag increase nito?
    3. May alam po ba kayo na clinic/hosp na meron nun corneal topography near makati..? (pati HMO q hindi nila kung san meron)
    4. Suggest naman po kayo ng brand ng lenses na more on medical side (sa mga stores po kasi pansin ko more on marketing talaga sila).. and brand ng eye drops that i can use...
    5. Ask narin po ako ng opthalmologist na kilala nyo near makati,.. May doubt po kasi ako sa mga npuntahan ko, I tried going to different doctors for one week, and iba iba reading nila sa grado ko at laki ng diffrence.. hindi consistent.

    Marami pong salamat..

    @jajamom
    Very unlikely. Falling from a bed can logically result in more serious problems.

    @lego
    These are questions you SERIOUSLY need to ask the doctor who has seen your child. Not someone (kahit na ophthalmologist)who will be guessing since he has NOT seen your child.

    @orochi_003
    1. We do not have enough evidence to say that computer use increases one's grade. For all we know, if you didn't use the computer at all for the past year, baka tumaas pa rin yung grade ng mata mo. Call it destiny...
    2. No
    3. SLMC Global City
    4. "medical side" ? there's nothing "medical" about the lenses for eye glasses. simply put, the more expensive ones are generally better than the cheaper ones. . Eye drop for what ?
    6. Hindi kaya the problem is your eye? The ophthalmologists will depend on what you tell them is "clearer". If you give conflicting answers, you'll mislead them (unintentionally ofcourse) into going the wrong way. What exactly do you mean by "malaki ang difference"? If they handed the actual prescription to you, how different are the spherical equivalents, spheres and cylinders?

  4. #1304
    May ganito pala sa PEX..

    Hi doc, salamat po sa reply.

    1. Yun sa lenses po, ibig ko po palang sabihin dun eh brand ng contact lens na maganda... Tanong q rin po sana *** brand ng eye drops that i can use kapag prolonged ang exposure to computer..

    2. Ah di ko po masabi about sa spherical equivalents, spheres and cylinders.. Basta ang sinasabi po ng isang doctor na grade ko ay 300 then yung ibang doctor 400 naman.. 100 diffrence po. ganun..=)

    Eto pala yung prescription nung latest doctor na napuntahan ko.
    OD: 400 sph - 0.75 cyl x 167
    OS: 3.75 sph.

    Salamat doc.

    Doc Richie, question naman;

    I would like to try lutein supplements however I dont have any idea how much mg should I take. 6mg, 10mg, 15 or 20mg?

    Also, which brand would you suggest? Swanson, Natures Blend, Puritans Pride, etc.

    Thanks!

  6. #1306
    Doc Richie,

    How can i get rid of my keratitis? thanks

  7. #1307
    @orochi_003
    1. usually, the more expensive brands are better. go for silicone hydrogel contact lenses
    2. what are the prescriptions from the other doctors? since you don't know what spheres and cylinders for the "Grade" are, perhaps it's premature to say na "laki ng difference". the doctor may have just verbalized the "spherical equivalent". A +/- 50 of spherical equivalent is considered the standard deviation. The only way to know is if you see a good ophthalmologist who gives you a grade that you are comfortable with.

    @MrMagalang
    They are "supplements". As such, there is no single correct dose for everybody. Note that they have "no therapeutic claim".

    @rhaps00
    There are sooo many types of Keratitis. better go back to your doctor or see a new one... preferably a cornea specialist

    Doc Richie

    Good day!

    I have a bloodshot eyes for about a week til now after quitting smoking. Is it possible the cause for this is nicotine withdrawal symptoms?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Doc Richie, good day!

    I have a question with regards to ROP.

    My first born child born 36 weeks AOG. He had respiratory distress a couple of hours after birth. He was transferred to PICU, intubated and placed on an incubator for 20 days. We went to Dra. Pauline Santiago to have his eyes checked when he was 4 months old and she didn't find any sign of ROP.

    My son is now a year old and his pediatric intensivist informed us about ROP's regression so he advised us to have my son's eye checked again even though he was cleared the first time.

    I'm a bit worried. Is it true that ROP can develop at a later time even though my son's eyes was cleared during the first checking? Do you know any signs or symptoms of ROP?

    Thank you and may our lord god continue to bless you for helping those in need.

    WAAAAAAh

    Hey Doc. Ang grado ko po, 175/125. Ngayong taon lang po ako nag pa glasses. Hindi ko po siya nasusuot daily. Minsan, pag umaalis lang, or manunuod. Meron bang posibilidad na umakyat grado ko? kasi parang malabo padin kahit may specs na. May astigmatism pa po ako. 75/50

  12. #1312
    @redcode7000
    It depends on the degree of lazy eye. watch and find out.

    @eengr_6
    probably not directly connected

    @BawbnoY
    You know, instead of worrying, I would bring my child back to Dra.Santiago. She can answer your questions better than I can as I have not seen your child.

    @ickcesar13
    There will always be that possibility that your grade will go up or down as time goes on. It is independent of how much you use your eye glasses

    Hello po Dr Ritchie..

    Tanong ko lang po kung ano tong nararamdaman ko minsan sa mata ko na parang may manipis na plastic na naglanding sa mata ko. Di naman sya makati or masakit, pero parang nakakaannoy kasi parang merong something sa mata ko pero pag tinignan ko .. ala naman.

    I have perfect vision naman, pero nagkahistory ako ng subconjunctival hemorrhage dahil sa pag heavy lifting ko. That was 2 years ago.

    Salamat po.

    @eengr_6
    It's always possible
    @makemefeel
    If you're asking for a SURGICAL procedure, there's one called "I-Brite"

    napanood ko din yan sa youtube doc and i find it very promising.. meron narin po ba yan dito sa pinas? at mga magkano po kaya yung sessions?

    gutso ko na talaga mawala tong reddish arteries(bloodshots) on my eyes..i think yung main cause nito is yung mga ginagamit kong creams before i sleep..

    Hi Doc
    Tanong ko lang po kung 1.74 pa din ba ang pinakamanipis na high index lense sa ngayon? At totoo po bang hindi na maganda ang 1.74 dahil mataas ang aberration? Salamat po.

    Kasi sa sobrang taas ng grado ng mata ko [1400,yes!1400], hindi ako makagamit ng eyeglass dahil sobrang kapal so high index nalang talaga ang pag-asa ko para mapahinga ko ang mata ko sa contact lense. Nasubukan ko na din pagisipan na baka pwede ako sa LASIK kaya lang kelangan padin ipahinga ang mata for 2 months kapag ang ginagamit na contacts ay yung may axis [ano nga po ulit tawag dun sa pangatlong klase na may axis para sa mga may astigmatism, soft contact lense, hard contact lense, and ______ contact lense].. Swerte talaga ng may malilinaw na mata.
