    Rank number 24 tayo haha

    1) I remember at the 1st years of GMA's term, I posted here that government offices showed its backwardness. None in the whole government bureaucracy used computers. That, while government serviced in other countries were boosted by use of computers.

Now, I am glad to see the mountain leap change. I heard that even the BIR uses computers to cross check incomes against claimed expenses by other taxpayers.

2). Express ways to the provinces were only the 2-lanes each directors to the south, 1 lane each direction to the north. Wider exit from MM and supporting roads beyond plus farm to market roads accelerated rural development.

3). The National budget grew the past 15 years from the 700b to 2t. affording the government more money for services and infra.

4). Business sprouted like mushrooms from 15 years ago, ang that started from GMA's admin.

5). Municipalities then had just 50yr old buildings. Now, they have new concrete buildings, computerized operations, and wow. finger scanning machines in place of time cards.

These, despite reported rampant corruption. If we should have had more if officials were just honest, and laws did not "abet" corruption, my view is that: YES, we should have had better.

In a way, on that issue, though, I am happy to some extent.

There's an improvement but, given the huge population, it will take more time before significant improvements can be seen in the countryside and by the masa. Changes do not happen overnight and we had 10 years of the corrupt gloria arroyo so don't expect too much.

I think that the Philippines is now in the right path to progress. There was >2.3% pop growth, but it appears that the benefits of smaller families finally sank in in the minds of the disadvantaged.

A little more tweaking of our laws, by congress or the SC and controlled corruption can lead to a steep acceleration of the economy that is now I see trickling in to the bottom of the social structure.

To this, I give a point to the sitting president, and Gloria, too (however corrupt her government must have been).

    @ nikkilove.

A little OT, but let me respond.

The new and pragmatic pope seems to be in the process of studying how to reconcile the medieval ultra conservative celibacy and reproductive stand of the church, and the realities of today.

The local RC hierarchy might one day wake up to a call to swallow the very practices that it despises today. What will Bishops and Priests do? Filibuster? Create another church?

There might be light at the end of the tunnel.

    Zero Infrastructure
    high food and oil prices
    Rice Smuggling worst ngayon
    Walang Trabaho
Mataas ang cost of electricity, internet, telecommunication

Worst administration in the History of the Philippines

all these things plays a roll of Domino effect in our economy.

1). Bagong malls (new Infastructure(construction Industry),Market(Sales),new job Opportunity)
2).Call center( BPO industry help increase the employment rate,GDP as well)
    3).Foreign Investment(new jobs,etc)

these things are what fueling the Philippines Economy since we can see any significance boost from the government.
But in my case, I need to go to Malaysia(Sabah) and work here to earn more and more pilipinos prefer to work abroad some event to migrate permanently. It's a sign that no significant improvement yet. But so far we are Improving like what others PEXEr's commented, though only the minority felt it.

    maunlad dahil siguro....
-libre edukasyon mula elementary, HS, College at Post Graduate Programs

Philippines is the 46th biggest economy in the world. But we a ranked lower in terms of GDP per capita which makes us in lower middle class.

In ASEAN, we ranked 5th (excluding Brunei) and our ranking has been the same in the past decade.

Our HDI also remain laggard though we are improving in ease if doing business index and corruption perception index.

I would say we are improving and trying to maximize our potential. Politika lang talaga ang problema sa atin that leads to bad governance.

From my personal viewpoint, there are improvements in the Philippines but it's really slow compared to our neighbors. The rich are getting richer while the poor getting poorer. The income gap is widening. The brain drain continues as anyone with any skills are trying their luck abroad.

I don't expect dramatic improvements in the future because the population growth of the poor is so fast, the economy couldn't possibly catch up. Lalo na lang dumadami ang mga mahihirap. I've also noticed there are a lot more squatters now than before.
