Loyzaga Explains Suspensions on Mammie, Casajeros

Loyzaga Explains Suspensions on Mammie, Casajeros
Article by: Ivan Stewart Saldajeno (08/28/2013)

UAAP Commissioner Chito Loyzaga finally aired his side regarding his decision to slap two-game suspensions on UE’s Charles Mammie and Lord Casajeros.

Already warned prior to the game because of an earlier unsportsmanlike foul, Casajeros was automatically meted a 1-game suspension because he was slapped another flagrant foul in the fourth quarter of the Red Warriors’ loss to FEU last Sunday.

However, the sanction on Casajeros was worsened because the commissioner saw him throwing a cheap shot at King Tamaraw Terrence Romeo in the second quarter of play. The referee failed to call a foul on Casajeros in that play.

About the verdict on Mammie, Loyzaga said that Mammie should have been slapped with an unsportsmanlike foul after he stuck a foot at Romeo while he released a three-point shot.

It’s now the third time Mammie was sanctioned for an unsportsmanlike foul, leading to the two-match ban.

Mammie and Casajeros will sit out the Red Warriors’ next outing against NU on Saturday and against La Salle next Wednesday.

Speaking of La Salle, the Green Archers will miss the services of Thomas Torres in their highly-anticipated match against Ateneo on Sunday after he was slapped with a one-game ban.

Torres was slapped with his second unsportsmanlike foul of the season after he badly fouled UP’s Joseph Marata in La Salle’s 85-63 win.

I'm explaining why the UAAP Board and Commisioner Loyzaga ended up giving a 2 game suspension for Mammie.

On giving a 3rd unsportsmanlike foul for your Mammie, it was the UAAP Board and Commissioner Loyzaga's decision.

If you think you know more about basketball than Commissioner Loyzaga, then by all means file a complaint. Just be sure to place your years of experience both in the amateur and professional league of Philippine Basketball to make a case.

Nagulat lang ako na umabot ka pa sa pagsasabi na "Just be sure to place your years of experience both in the amateur and professional league of Philippine Basketball" samantalang wala naman ako sinasabing magaling ako.

For the sake of discussion ang ineexpect ko ipapaliwanag mo at hihimayin ang issue katulad ng mga nauna mong ginawa, hindi ganyan.

^ can you please explain, anong mali sa sinabi ko.

Bakit ka paniniwalaan ng UAAP Commitee when your whole basis of this argument is you just want your team to win the game.

Qoute - Loyzaga: " Talagang unsportsmanlike dahil nilagay niya yung paa niya sa landing area nung ballplayer and hindi naman naka taas kamay niya or hindi nakatingin sa player."

"If I don't act on it, yung kabila naman ang magsasabi na why I didn't act on that."

"Just be sure to place your years of experience both in the amateur and professional league of Philippine Basketball"

Bakit ka paniniwalaan ng UAAP Commitee when your whole basis of this argument is you just want your team to win the game."

Instead kasi na paliwanagan mo ko dahil nga hindi ako maalam both sa amateur and professional league of Philippine Basketball sa Pilipinas, mas nagmumuka kang spokesperson ni Commissioner Loyzaga.

under FIBA Rules the landing spot of the shooter must be clear to avoid injuries with respect to the shooter. meaning to say you have no business in stocking your foot on the landing spot. yung issue kung sinadya or hindi my answer is its immaterial you must stay away from the landing spot otherwise your giving the refs & the commissioner reason to give you unsportsmanlike foul.

Then the Red Engr has answered the questions of all those who feel they have been maligned by the decision of the Commissioner. It not the question of intention but of technical position of both the shooter and the defender.

You can still win games playing honest defense, especially if you are as good as what you perceive yourself to be.... Champs! (Fil-Oil nga lang pero champs!)

The UAAP technical committee ruled the alleged elbowing or punching act by Lord Casajeros on Terrence Romeo in the second quarter was not clear on the video and was in fact not called by the referees. Jerome Ascano The UAAP technical committee ruled the alleged elbowing or punching act by Lord Casajeros on Terrence Romeo in the second quarter was not clear on the video and was in fact not called by the referees. THE UAAP technical committee has upheld the decision of UAAP commissioner Chito Loyzaga to suspend University of the East center Charles Mammie for two games, but downgraded the suspension of Lord Casajeros to one game.

The technical committee chaired by Fr. Ermito de Sagun of University of Santo Tomas handed out the decision after reviewing the incident on Friday following an appeal made by UE to lift Mammie's ban and downgrade Casajeros’ suspension.

The Red Warriors got their wish on the Casajeros aspect of their appeal but not on Mammie's as the technical committee, following its own video review, maintained that he had an intention to hurt Terrence Romeo by encroaching on the FEU guard’s landing spot.

With the decision, Mammie will still miss the next two crucial games of the Red Warriors against National University on Saturday and De La Salle on September 4.

Casajeros, on the other hand, will now be able see action in the La Salle game after the technical committee’s decision.

In explaining its decision to downgrade Casajeros' ban, the technical committee said the UE guard's record is relatively clean with only a warning given during the first round of the eliminations following an altercation with Adamson’s Roider Cabrera.

The technical committee also said the alleged elbowing or punching act by Casajeros on Romeo in the second quarter was not clear on the video and was in fact not called by the referees.

It was also clear on the video, the technical committee said, that Mammie “double-stepped” on the landing spot of Romeo to merit a suspension.
